The Hip Disability and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (HOOS) was developed as a survey instrument to investigate patient self administered subjective scores of their hip related disability, either with or without osteoarthritis (OA). The form can be used over short and long intervals for week to week changes and during key interventions such as medications, operations and physical therapy. It can also be used over timeframes as long as a few years.

The HOOS survey is divided into 5 subscales: Pain, other Symptoms, Function in daily living (ADL), Function in sport and recreation (Sport/Rec) and hip related Quality of life (QOL).
