The Horizontal Ladder test is a motor and coordination test for evaluating skilled walking for mice and rats. Steps are counted and classified as either correct/functional paw placement, a slip, or a miss. Fore & hind-limb coordination can be assessed further by removing individual ladder rungs to evaluate how the rodent targets individual rungs.
The animals are required to walk on a horizontal rung ladder spontaneously with varied spacing between rungs. The MazeEngineers horizontal ladder allows for the removal of individual rungs. The Morris Water Maze (MWM) is a widely used behavioral task developed by Richard G. Morris in the year 1981 as a response to the Radial Arm Maze (RAM). As opposed to the Radial Arm Maze, the Morris Water Maze doesn’t provide the subject with a choice point. Further, the task utilizes the fear of drowning to motivate the subject to learn the location of the escape platform quickly. The navigational task is effective in the assessment of spatial learning, and over the course of years has seen modifications and adaptations such as the Water T-Maze, the Water Y-Maze, and the Water RAM.
The Bowman Style Rodent Restrainer holds rodents up to 750g. Rodents can be placed by removing the upper rods and replacing them after insertion. Alternatively, they can be placed through an access porthole in the rear. The front “guillotine” door can be adjusted and locked into three possible positions.
