Care card fields align with AAEP horse management record recommendations. Review all cards with the caretaker before handoff.

How It Works

Enter your facility name, coverage dates, and caretaker name. Add each horse with their care details: name, breed, age, weight, BCS, most recent TPR, daily hay and grain amounts, medications, turnout schedule, and special instructions. The tool checks for incomplete entries (missing weight, BCS, or TPR) and flags health concerns (underweight/overweight BCS, abnormal temperature or pulse). Download individual per-horse care cards as PDFs or download all cards at once as a ZIP file. Print the cards and leave them in a binder for the caretaker.

Handoff Best Practices

Walk through the handoff in person when possible — show the caretaker where feed, medications, and first-aid supplies are stored. Include the vet’s number and your own number on the pack. Take vitals (TPR) within 24 hours of the handoff so the caretaker has a current baseline. For horses on medications, include the exact dose, timing, and administration method. Note any behavioral quirks (e.g., "kicks at feeding time," "must be turned out with Star only"). Test the caretaker: can they locate every item mentioned on the care cards?

1

Method

Care card fields align with AAEP recommendations for horse management records. Health flags use standard vital ranges: temperature 99–101.5°F, pulse 28–44 bpm, BCS 4–7 as healthy range. Incomplete data detection prompts owners to fill in critical fields before handoff. All computation runs locally in your browser — no data is uploaded.
