Hydraulic Capstan

Located on the south side (Greenland Quay) of Greenland Dock, Rotherhithe, London. "Large ships were helped in and out of the Greenland Lock using hawsers hauled in by these capstasn .... An igenious mechanism used the power of high pressure water to turn it."
