Carranque Mosaic of Oceanus

Mosaic of the Titan Oceanus preserved in the Roman villa of Carranque (Toledo, Spain). The residential part of the Roman villa of Carranque preserves one of the best collections of Roman mosaics in Spain. Most of the mosaics have been dated to the 4th century AD. In this case, we see Oceanus represented. In Greek mythology Oceanus was the son of Uranus and Gaia. The Romans commonly depicted him as a muscular man with a long beard and horns (often with crab claws on his head, as in this case). Oceanus appears surrounded by marine flora and fauna. The mosaics of the Roman villa of Carranque are made up of thousands of tesserae, made up of small stones, ceramic fragments and glass of different colors, whose size ranges between 2 millimeters and 4 centimeters. 3D model made using 261 images in Reality Capture with additional processing completed in Geomagic Wrap, Zbrush, Substance Designer, and Blender.
