Lorrha Medieval Graveslab (TN004-010023-)

Recumbent medieval graveslab at the eastern end of the Augustinian priory (TN004-010006-) in Lorrha, County Tipperary. Tapering chamfered cross slab grave cover with a plain Latin cross with a horizontal line across the top and bottom. It is uncertain if the horizontal bar at the top forms part of the cross design which would make this design a two-barred cross rather than a Latin cross. This type of cross is also known as the Patriarchal Cross and the Cross of Lorraine. The tapering chamfered slab acted as a stone lid for a stone sarcophagus or stone coffin for a high status person, either a patron of the priory or a high ranking ecclesiastical figure.
