F I G U R E 1 in Phylogenetics, subspecies, and conservation of the eastern pinesnake
F I G U R E 1 Eastern pinesnake subspecies and samples used in this study, collected from 2003 to 2020. Eastern pinesnake subspecies' ranges come directly from the Florida pinesnake Species Status Assessment (USFWS 2022). The samples used in this study are colored by whether they were used in the restriction‐associated digest sequencing (RADseq) or ultra‐conserved element (UCE) analyses. The map does not include samples from Nikolakis et al. (2022), which were added to the UCE analysis. The map shows higher elevation areas in dark colors, and rivers referenced in the text. Photos of exemplar individuals from various parts of the eastern pinesnake range are chosen to show phenotypic variation among the subspecies; however, there is also substantial phenotypic variation within the areas highlighted. Photos, starting at top and moving clockwise, are courtesy of B. D. Hudson, A.R. Krohn, G. M. Meloni, J.W. Mota, and J. T. Oguni.
