Program and Operational Characteristics of Syringe Services Programs—Data from the National Survey of Syringe Services Programs, 2021

As part of a larger effort supported by Arnold Ventures to understand the impact of state-level policy initiatives on service delivery from SSPs, RTI International conducted a study of all known SSPs operating in the US from February to July 2022, which included an online, cross-sectional survey about the services the organization provided in 2021. The survey was administered using the Voxco© platform (Voxco, Montreal, Quebec, Canada). Referred to as the NSSSP, this survey has been repeated annually since 2019, following consistent procedures. Administration of the 2022 NSSSP was supported by the North American Syringe Exchange Network (NASEN), the National Harm Reduction Coalition (NHRC), and a scientific advisory board comprised of national experts in harm reduction.
