(Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1,</strong></a>&nbsp;<strong>number 1359 here with notations and hyperlinks].</strong></li> </ul> <p>778</p> <p>Laṭ&acirc;&rsquo;if-alṭaw&acirc;&rsquo;if ( لطائف الطوائف).</p> <p>Jests and witty stories about the different classes of mankind, compiled by &lsquo;Al&icirc; bin Ḥusain alw&acirc;&rsquo;iż alk&acirc;shif&icirc; (the son of the author of the Anw&acirc;r-i-Suhail&icirc;), better known as Ṣaf&icirc; (not Nasaf&icirc;, as is wrongly written here), and completed shortly after A.H. 939 (A.D. 1532 , 1533), In Gharjist&acirc;n, where he had betaken himself after many hardships and a year&rsquo;s captivity in Har&acirc;t, at the court of Naṣ&icirc;r-aldaulah wa Żah&icirc;r-almillah Sh&acirc;h Muḥammad, the Sulṭ&acirc;n of Gharjist&acirc;n; comp. Bodleian Cat., Nos. 454-457; Rieu ii. p. 757 sq.; W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 975 sq. Another title, sometimes given to this work, is لطائف الظرائف. It is divided into fourteen b&acirc;bs, viz.:</p> <p>I.در بيان استحباب مزاج و ذكر بعضى از مطائبات پيغمبر باصحابه الخ (about Muḥammad), in eight faṣls, on fol. 3<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>II.در ذكر بعضى از نكات شريفه و حكايات لطيفۀ ائمّۀ معصومين (about the Im&acirc;ms), in twelve faṣls, on fol. 15<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>III. در ذكر حكايات لطيفۀ ملوک و نکات ظريفۀ سلاطين (about kings), in ten faṣls, on fol. 33<sup>a</sup>.</p> <p>IV. در لطائف امرا و مقرّبان و ظرائف وزرا و ارباب ديوان (about Am&icirc;rs, favourites, waz&icirc;rs, and other high state dignitaries), in six faṣls, on fol. 43<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>V.در لطائف اديبان و منشيان و نديمان و سپاهان و دليران در مناظرۀ پادشاهان (about men of letters, Munsh&icirc;s, courtiers, officers, etc.), in six faṣls, on fol. 52<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>VI. در لطائف اعراب و نكات فصحا و بلغا و ذكر بعضى از حكم و امثال ايشان (about Bedouins, grammarians, orators, etc.) in five faṣls, on fol. 61<sup>a</sup>.</p> <p>VII.در لطائف مشايخ و علما و فضلا و فقها و اصحاب تذكير (about Shaikhs, &lsquo;Ulam&acirc;s, legal men, etc.), in eight faṣls, on fol. 74<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>VIII.در لطائف حكماء متقدّمين و متأخّرين و حكايات عجيبۀ اطبّا و معبّرين و منجّمين (about philosophers, old and new, physicians, interpreters of dreams, and astrologers), in eight faṣls, on fol. 85<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>IX.در لطائف شعرا و بديهه گفتن ايشان در محلّها و ذكر بعضى از عجائب صنائع شعرى و غرائب بدائع فكرئ ايشان (about poets, etc.), in nine faṣls, on fol. 97<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>X. در لطائف ظريفان از مردان و زنان (about male and female wags), in eleven faṣls, on fol. 127<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>XI.در حكايات و لطائف بخيلان و پرخواران و طفيليان (about misers, gluttons, and parasites), in five faṣls, on fol. 149<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>XII.در لطائف طامعان و دزدان و گدايان و كوران و كران (about greedy men, thieves, beggars, blind and deaf men), in eight faṣls, on fol. 156<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>XIII. در لطائف كودكان و غلامان و كنيزكان زيرك و تيز فهم (about clever children slaves), in seven faṣls, on fol. 160<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>XIV.در لطائف و حكايات ابلهان و كذّابان و مدّعيان نبّوت و ديوانگان (about silly people, liars, and impostors), in seven faṣls, on fol. 174<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>Beginning: بعد از اداى لطائف تحميدات الهى و وظائف صلوات حضرت رسالت پناهى عليه و آله صلوات الخ.</p> <p>Dated the 11th of Sha&rsquo;b&acirc;n, A.H. 1191 (A.D. 1777, September 14).</p> <p>No. 1359, ff. 1-185, 11. 17; clear Nasta&rsquo;l&icirc;ḳ , on fol. 78<sup>a</sup> a second hand seems to commence; size, 8<sup>3/8</sup> in. by 4<sup>3/4</sup> in.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
