(Oxford: India Office, 1903): volume 1,</strong></a>&nbsp;<strong>number 1126 here with notations and hyperlinks].</strong></li> </ul> <p>968</p> <p>Sharḥ-i-D&icirc;w&acirc;n-i-Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc; (شرح ديوان خاقانى).</p> <p>A commentary on the difficult verses in the ḳaṣ&icirc;das and other minor poem of Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc; (شرح بعضى ابيات مشكلۀ قصائد و اشعار مفصّلۀ ديوان افضل الفضلا و سلطان الشعرا سحبان العصر حسّان الدهر افصح العرب و العجم افضل الدين عثمان بن على المعروف با نام خاقانى, as the inscription in the following copy has it), by the same Muḥammad bin D&acirc;&rsquo;&ucirc;d bin Muḥammad bin Maḥm&ucirc;d &lsquo;Alaw&icirc; Sh&acirc;diy&acirc;b&acirc;d&icirc;, who wrote a commentary on Anwar&icirc;&rsquo;s d&icirc;w&acirc;n, see No. 947 above; other copies of the same in Bodleian Cat., Nos. 572 and 573; Rieu ii. p. 561, and A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 462.</p> <p>Beginning of the preface: جواهر زواهر سپاس بى قياس نثار حضرت صمديّت جلّ قدرته الخ.</p> <p>The first verse, explained, is the usual initial one: دل من پير تعليمست الخ, on fol. 90<sup>b</sup>, bottom. A small blank on fol. 258<sup>b</sup>.</p> <p>Dated (by the hand) in Dh&ucirc;-alḳa&rsquo;dah, A.H. 995 (A.D. 1587, October). Other commentaries on Kh&acirc;ḳ&acirc;n&icirc;&rsquo;s d&icirc;w&acirc;n are described in Rieu ii. 562 (by &lsquo;Alaw&icirc; L&acirc;hij&icirc; in Jah&acirc;ng&icirc;r&rsquo;s time); W. Pertsch, Berlin Cat., p. 770, and G. Fl&uuml;gel i. p. 509 (by &lsquo;Abd-alwahh&acirc;b bin Maḥm&ucirc;d al-Ḥasan&icirc; al-Ḥusain&icirc; al-Ma&rsquo;m&ucirc;r&icirc;, with the takhalluṣ Ghan&acirc;&rsquo;&icirc;, who flourished about A.H. 1090=A.D. 1679, and whose commentary seems to have the special title of محبّت نامه); and A. Sprenger, Catal., p. 463 (فرح افزا, by Ḳab&ucirc;l Muḥammad, the author of the Haft Ḳulzum).</p> <p>No. 1126, ff. 90-263, written by two hands, the first in Naskh&icirc;, on ff. 90<sup>b</sup>-170<sup>a</sup> middle, 25-30 diagonal lines in a page; the second in Nasta&rsquo;l&icirc;ḳ; on ff. 170<sup>a</sup> middle-263, larger in the beginning and getting smaller and smaller towards the end, 24-32 diagonal lines in a page; size, 9<sup>1/2</sup> in. by 5<sup>3/8</sup> in.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
