Beer Jo

Bronze statue of a sitting bear. Created in 2001 as a part of the Semi-automatic Comfort Machine, the artist, **Michel Huisman**, wants to represent the unfortunate history of bears in Maastricht, Netherlands. The sculpture is located in **Aldenhofpark** where the bear pit was. Nowadays, it is officially part of the Maastricht City Park as well as a range of other statues such as the girl with the dying giraffe. Beer Jo or Jo the Bear in English represents the last bear that ever lived in Maastricht and it is a commemoration to those bears and a disapproval of the poor condition they were living in. This project was created by Augustin Lambert and Brissa Kim as part of the University College Maastricht program. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
