Shakbazian Compact Groups of Galaxies

This catalog is a compilation of ten lists of compact groups of compact galaxies found on the Palomar Sky Survey red charts and published in the period 1973 to 1979 by Shakhbazian, Petrosian, and collaborators. The catalog contains 377 groups of compact galaxies and includes identifications, equatorial coordinates, numbers of constituent galaxies, magnitudes of the brightest member, sizes of the groups as a whole, and coefficients of relative compactness. The HEASARC has a related database table, SHKGALAXY, which contains data on the individual galaxies in the Shakhbazian Compact Groups. This database table was created by the HEASARC in December, 1999, based on the <a href="https://cdsarc.cds.unistra.fr/ftp/cats/VII/89B">CDS catalog VII/89B</a>.
