HNX/DragonTIGER Instrument Development Project

Precisely identifying the species of cosmic-ray nuclei detected by a satellite or balloon instrument requires the use of several complementary detector systems. In particular, determining the nuclear charge of an incident nucleus, and so the element to which it belongs, requires precise measurements of the differential energy loss of the particle passing through a well-characterized layer of material, the velocity of the particle, and its trajectory. The goal of this project is to improve detectors for these measurements.
