Simplified Event Logs for Sepsis Patient Trajectories
<p>This dataset contains a simplified excerpt from a real event log that tracks the trajectories of patients admitted to a hospital to be treated for sepsis, a life-threatening condition. The log has been recorded by the Enterprise Resource Planning of the hospital. Additionally, the dataset contains three synthetic logs that increase the number of trajectories within the original log timespan, while maintaining other statistical characteristics.</p> <p>In total, the dataset contains four files in .zip format and a companion that describes the statistical method used to synthesize the logs as well as the dataset content in detail. The dataset can be used in testing the performance of event-based process-mining and log (runtime) monitoring tools against an increasing load of events.</p>
DFT Calculated xyz and log Files in Support of "Reaction Mechanism of Pd-catalyzed "CO-free" Carbonylation Reaction Uncovered by In situ Spectroscopy: The Formyl Mechanism"
<p>Theoretically calculated xyz and log files for hydrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, methanol, methyl formate, butene, methyl pentanoate and multiple Pd-dtbpx complexes (dtbpx = 1,2-Bis(di-<em>tert</em>-butylphosphino)xylene) which catalyze the addition of HCOOMe/CO onto butene to form methyl pentanoate.</p> <p>All quantum chemical simulations were performed using the Gaussian16 software. The ground state equilibrium structures and electronic properties were obtained at the density functional (DFT) level of theory utilizing the B3LYP XC functional.The def2-SVP basis set as well as the respective core potentials were applied for all atoms. A subsequent vibrational analysis was carried out for each optimized ground state structure to verify that a minimum on the potential energy (hyper‑)surface (PES) was obtained. All calculations were performed including D3 dispersion correction with Becke-Johnson damping.</p> <p>An analogous computational setup was applied for the optimization of transition states (TSs), while an initial guess in the vicinity of the saddle point was at first obtained via the Nudged Elastic Band (NEB) method as implemented in pysisyphus with xtb.<sup> </sup>Thereafter, the TSs were obtained in Gaussian16 via the Berny algorithm, followed by a vibrational analysis to verify that a first-order saddle point on the PES was obtained.</p>

Varying impacts of logging frequency on tree communities and carbon storage across evergreen and deciduous tropical forests in the Andaman Islands, India
<p>The majority of Earth's tropical forests have been selectively logged; some on repeated occasions. Selective logging is known to affect forest structure, composition and function in various ways, but how such effects vary with logging frequency and across forest types remains unclear. In the Andaman Archipelago in India, we examined adult and pole-sized trees in baseline (unlogged since 1990s), once-logged (logged between 2007 and 2014) and twice-logged (logged in early 1990s and between 2007 and 2014) evergreen and deciduous forests, and tested whether higher logging frequency was associated with lower canopy cover, tree density, tree diversity, aboveground carbon stocks and divergence in species composition, including increased relative abundances of deciduous species in these forests. While once-logged evergreen and deciduous forests were similar to their respective baselines for most attributes assessed, and twice-logged evergreen forests had 22–24% lower adult tree density and diversity, twice-logged deciduous forests had 17–50% lower canopy cover, pole density, adult species diversity and above-ground carbon stocks, and 12% higher deciduous fractions compared to the baselines. Collectively our results reveal lasting impacts of repeated selective logging, even at relative low intensity, on tree communities and carbon storage. These impacts can potentially be mitigated by reducing logging frequency and retaining unlogged patches in logged landscapes, but management must also incorporate heterogeneity in responses and recovery across different forest types. In the Andaman Islands, all forests may require more than 15–25 years between logging events, with deciduous forests potentially requiring more stringent extraction limits compared to evergreen forests.</p>

The Pallasboy project created a replaica of the Lee Island Log Boat (5) found in Lough Corrib outside the village of Moycullen in Co. Galway. The replica vessel was crafted by woodworker Mark Griffiths in 2015 using appropriate replica tools (and contemporary equivalents for comparison). The process of re-creation was documented by a Cork-based archaeologist and photographer Brian Mac Domhnaill. OPC simulation logs
<p>Logs produced during the evaluation process of OPC cache design, which is part of paper "Object-orient Packet Caching" [1]. The traces include download completion times, overall cache requests, hits, insertions & evictions. Additionally, the logs include cache hits per individual cache-router and content item. These logs can be used for interpreting the specific issues met at ICN packet caches, such as large object poisoning and looped replacement. The logs explore 5 cache sizes, 10 different scale free topologies, three cache placement policies (Betweenness, Universal, Edge), two cache selection policies (LRU, OPC) and 4 slow-to-fast memory size ratios. The natural 'exclosure effect' and tree regeneration following post-windstorm salvage logging
<p>Understanding the influence of post-disturbance forest management on tree regeneration is critical for assessing ecosystem recovery and guiding future responses. In particular, the influx of elevated coarse woody material (CWM) following wind disturbance, if left in situ, may impede herbivore access, thereby protecting saplings from browsing damage through a natural 'exclosure effect.'<br>In 2013, a tornado in northcentral Maine, USA and subsequent salvage logging operations created three clear 'treatments' for evaluation of the exclosure effect: blowdown, blowdown plus salvage logging, and an undamaged control. Nine years post-tornado, we inventoried tree regeneration within these treatments to evaluate differences in sapling abundance, species composition, size structure, and browsing intensity. We also inventoried CWM, including the height above forest floor.<br>Results revealed significant differences in sapling composition and browsing intensity among treatments. The salvage treatment had the highest proportion of browsed saplings (56 ± 28%; mean ± standard error), followed by the control (9 ± 10%) and blowdown (5 ± 8%). Blowdown had by far the greatest mean (50 ± 9 cm) and average maximum (169 ± 43 cm) heights for CWM. Binomial generalized linear models revealed that browsing probability was a function of mean CWM height and an interaction between sapling density and proportion of sapling hardwoods. Thus, browsing damage was less likely in plots with greater CWM heights and more likely in plots with greater sapling density and more hardwood saplings. <br>Synthesis and applications: This study furthers our understanding of ecosystem recovery following blowdown and salvage logging. Results suggest that salvage logging created important differences in CWM abundance and height distribution, when compared to un-salvaged areas, and that these differences in turn altered sapling size structure and browsing intensity. These findings highlight the potential long-term effects of successive disturbances, as the differences evident in these early stages may persist for decades or longer. Importantly, we provide evidence of the exclosure effect, suggesting that CWM retained in the un-salvaged area protected saplings from moose browsing. Thus, in post-disturbance areas where browsing threatens regeneration, we recommend that managers consider retaining CWM to serve as a natural exclosure.</p>
Patterns of liana diversity and host interaction networks in selectively-logged and unlogged forests of Uppangala, Western Ghats, India
<p>Lianas shape tropical forest species composition, structure, and dynamics. Increasing climate fluctuation and anthropogenic disturbances increase liana abundance. Despite the increasing number of liana studies in India, only a few have examined the distribution and association of hosts with lianas, or liana-host interaction networks to determine their functional significance and conservational value. Therefore, our objective was to fill the knowledge gap about the diversity, abundance, and network structure of liana-host interactions in response to logging disturbance in a wet evergreen forest of Uppangala in central Western Ghats, India. We sampled lianas ≥1 cm in diameter at 1.3 m from the base and their host trees in thirty 20m x 20m plots in selectively-logged and unlogged forest management regimes. We evaluated liana-host tree interactions in logged and unlogged forests and retrieved community-level measures (nestedness, connectance, modularity, and network specialization index) and species-level indicators (species specialization index). Diversity and abundance of liana species were considerably greater in the selectively logged forest site. The logged forest site had compartmentalization, anti-nestedness, and network specialization, while unlogged forests were not showing any significant network structure. Most species of lianas and hosts were peripherals, but others were structurally important (connectors, module hubs, and network hubs) in the two forest sites. Forest management regimes had distinct structurally significant species.</p>
