Reversing declines in farmland birds: how much agri-environment provision is needed at farm and landscapes scales?
<p>1) Agri-environment schemes (AES) are the primary policy mechanism for addressing farmland biodiversity declines across Europe. Despite previous studies on the impacts of AES on biodiversity, there is little empirical evidence on the scale of provision required to reverse declines.</p> <p>2) Across three regions of lowland England with contrasting farm systems (arable, pastoral, mixed) we estimated avian Population Growth Rates (PGRs) on farmland with high AES provision ('higher-tier': average bird-friendly option cover = 7.4%), low AES provision ('lower-tier': 2.3%), and no bird-friendly AES ('no AES'). Ten-year PGRs were derived for 24 species and three multi-species groups comprising farmland-associated species ('farmland birds'), species of conservation concern ('priority birds'), and species restricted to farmland ('specialist birds'). We used PGRs to simulate the proportion of the regional farmland landscape that would have to be assigned to higher- and lower-tier agreements to stabilise or increase populations.</p> <p>3) In the arable and pastoral regions, 13/23 and 13/22 species respectively had more positive PGRs under higher-tier AES than on no AES farmland (none had more negative PGRs), compared to 4/22 (positive) and 1/22 (negative) in the mixed region. Only 2-4 species per region exhibited more positive PGRs under lower-tier AES compared to no AES farmland.</p> <p>4) Multi-species PGRs in the arable and pastoral regions increased from no AES (strong decline), to lower-tier (decline or stability) to higher-tier (moderate or strong increase). There was no overall AES effect in the mixed region.</p> <p>5) To increase regional farmland bird populations by 10% over 10-years, 47% and 26% of the farmed landscape would need to be devoted to higher-tier agreements in arable and pastoral landscapes respectively. This falls to 34% and 17% when higher-tier is targeted at localities supporting higher abundances of target species, and to 29% and 10% when 30% of the farmed landscape is also devoted to lower-tier. Priority and specialist birds require higher provision levels.</p> <p>6) Policy implications. Where farmland bird recovery is an AES objective, farms should prioritise higher-tier agreement delivery over lower-tier. Farmland bird responses to AES provision are likely to vary regionally but careful targeting will reduce the amount needed in the landscape.</p>
Brewer #150 UV measurements and ancillary data needed for its uncertainty evaluation
<p>All files uploaded are needed to evaluate the uncertainty of the UV measurements recorded by the Brewer MKIII double monochromator (No. 150). The uncertainty analysis was carried out using the Monte Carlo technique, which was implemented in a separate R file (doi: 10.5281/zenodo.8046562). Files contain all the necessary information to characterize Brewer #150 (cosine correction, raw counts, lamp irradiance, responsivity instabilities, noise and wavelength shifts).</p>

<p><strong>Supplementary Material</strong></p> <p><em><strong>Context</strong></em>: Software development is a knowledge-intensive activity, and its success in an organization relies deeply on knowledge sharing. Knowledge management challenges are often increased in agile environments, which involve a lot of tacit knowledge, commonly acquired through experiences and hard to be made explicit. Therefore, knowledge sharing among practitioners is crucial. However, identifying suitable experts to share specific knowledge is not trivial. It involves not only discovering the individuals with the desired knowledge but also considering other factors that may improve the expert responsiveness, such as social connections and availability. <em><strong>Objective</strong></em>: Considering the important role experts play in knowledge sharing, we decided to investigate approaches that help identify experts that can share knowledge in software development. Our goal is to provide a panorama of the existing approaches and shine a light on research opportunities. <em><strong>Method</strong></em>: We carried out a systematic literature mapping and analyzed 17 publications. <em><strong>Results</strong></em>: The results show that most approaches have relied on code repositories as a source of evidence for identifying experts and, consequently, focus on supporting developers and aiding in the codification activity. Additionally, expert identification has been mostly automated, and factors beyond possessing the desired knowledge have often been disregarded. <em><strong>Conclusion</strong></em>: Although there are several expert identification approaches, there has been a lack of concern with factors that influence reaching the most suitable expert for a specific situation (e.g., considering the characteristics of the person seeking knowledge). Moreover, there is a need for deeper reflection on how to better explore different artifacts as sources of expert evidence and how to combine them to improve expert identification.</p> <p>This package contains supplementary material of the study performed to investigate approaches that help identify experts that can share knowledge in software development. Beach recreationists perceive a lack of knowledge about shorebirds' needs as a constraint to walking around shorebird flocks
<div>Walking through shorebird flocks can have negative impacts on shorebird populations. Understanding human behavior is essential for minimizing disturbance. As such, we used a mixed-methods approach consisting of phone interviews and a survey to explore 1) recreationists' perceived benefits and constraints to voluntarily walking around shorebird flocks, 2) recreationists' intentions to walk around shorebird flocks, 3) differences in behavioral intention by sociodemographic variables, and 4) differences in norms, benefits, and constraints among recreationists who intend to walk around flocks and recreationists who do not intend to walk around flocks. From the interviews and survey, we found that recreationists' perceived benefits to walking around flocks were maintaining undisturbed conditions for shorebirds and reducing harm to people and their dogs. Recreationists perceived constraints to walking around flocks related to knowledge about shorebirds' needs. The majority of recreationists were willing to walk around flocks, rather than through them. Intention to walk around flocks can vary by sociodemographic groups. Recreationists who intended to walk around flocks had stronger personal and social norms than recreationists who did not intend to walk around flocks. Recreationists who intended to walk around flocks generally agreed more strongly that maintaining undisturbed conditions for shorebirds and reduced harm to people and their dogs were benefits, compared to participants who did not intend to walk around flocks. Recreationists who did not intend to walk around flocks agreed more strongly that knowledge was a constraint compared to participants who intended to walk around flocks. Our findings could be used in the strategy development phase of a community-based social marketing campaign (CBSM) aimed at encouraging recreationists to voluntarily walk around shorebird flocks. Using behavior change techniques, benefits uncovered in this study can be emphasized and constraints uncovered in this study can be reduced for the purpose of promoting less disturbance to shorebirds.</div>
