Hybrid Market- and Community-Driven Strategy for Repurposing Devices for Medical Use

There is a split in today's technological development between traditional proprietary-based and open community-driven development. Open development ( open science / open software / open hardware ) often loses steam when capital and long-term commitment is required. Proprietary-based development solves the issue by attracting capital, but the need minimize and compensate risks leads to secrecy and a focus on developed economies.

Here I propose a strategy to reconcile the two worlds. I focus on the scenario of off-the-shelf devices that can be repurposed for meeting needs in the medical field, as it can lower the typically high initial capital required in the medical device sector while motivating community involvement. The strategy is contingent on the owner of the initial technology not being deprived of its intellectual property rights.

This is a work in progress that will be updated through my own involvement and that of any interested bodies.

Energy Market Transformation Survey

This report presents a survey performed with stakeholders and end-users under the scope of PARITY project. The survey explores the overall patterns that will form the energy market transformation and the consumer's perspective. The survey aims to evaluate participants’ opinions on the concepts of LEM and LFM, to identify factors and barriers to the progress of local renewable energy development based on the participants’ knowledge and what would motivate people to participate in such markets. Additionally, the goal of this survey is to analyse the current market needs, as well as investigate what is driving the energy markets transformation and where it is leading.

Paninvasion severity assessment of a U.S. grape pest to disrupt the global wine market

Economic impacts from plant pests are often felt at the regional scale, yet some impacts expand to the global scale through the alignment of a pest's invasion potentials. Such globally invasive species (i.e., paninvasives) are like the human pathogens that cause pandemics. Like pandemics, assessing paninvasion risk for an emerging regional pest is key for stakeholders to take early actions that avoid market disruption. Here, we develop the paninvasion severity assessment framework and use it to assess a rapidly spreading regional U.S. grape pest, the spotted lanternfly planthopper (Lycorma delicatula; SLF), to spread and disrupt the global wine market. We found that SLF invasion potentials are aligned globally because important viticultural regions with suitable environments for SLF establishment also heavily trade with invaded U.S. states. If the U.S. acts as an invasive bridgehead, Italy, France, Spain, and other important wine exporters are likely to experience the next SLF introductions. Risk to the global wine market is high unless stakeholders work to reduce SLF invasion potentials in the U.S. and globally.

Penzance Market Cross - Enhanced inscriptions
Penzance Market Cross could date from the 11th century. It has been moved many times, and has suffered much damage along the way. In this 3D scan, the texture of the stone has been removed and enhanced, revealing the detail of the decorations, inscriptions and damage. There has been much discussion in the past over the meaning of the inscriptions and decorations, notably from R. A. S. Macalister and Prof Charles Thomas. The Celtic Inscribed Stones Project draws together what was known about the stone until the late 1990s: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/archaeology/cisp/database/stone/pnzan_1.html The cross now lays permanently outside Penlee House Gallery and Museum in Penzance. The geometry has been decimated to allow sharing here. If you download and us the data, please credit Tom Goskar and link here, as per the Creative Commons licence. There are hints of letters and decorations yet to be recorded, and there is much to be done on understanding this enigmatic stone. Please let me know of any new readings. Tendencias de investigación sobre estrategias de marketing digital y satisfacción estudiantil en la educación superior: Un análisis bibliométrico

The main objective of this bibliometric article is to analyse and synthesise existing research that explores the relationship between digital marketing strategies implemented by higher education institutions and the satisfaction perceived by students. A bibliometric methodology was adopted, constructing a canonical search equation in the Scopus database, without temporal restrictions. The extracted data were processed using Bibliometrix and VOSviewer to create scientific maps and perform statistical analyses. The main results reveal a significant growth in scientific output, with a total of 1126 published papers and remarkable international collaboration. The core concepts are social networks, e-commerce, student satisfaction and digital marketing. An interdisciplinary nature is observed, with contributions from various areas of knowledge. Although the interest is global, the growing participation of Middle Eastern nations is noteworthy. In conclusion, the field of digital marketing research on university students has experienced significant growth, reflecting the adoption of digital technologies in higher education and the need for effective digital marketing strategies to attract and retain students.
