Biface Fragment XCB-003-160

Biface Fragment XCB-003-160 XCB-003, or IZM-003, is a site tested by A.P. McCartney in 1971. It is the type-site for the Izembek Phase. A small village with a unique whalebone house and many artifacts similar to those in the Bristol Bay region. It dates approximately 1200-1350 CE. The Western Alaska Peninsula artifacts are presented as a result of the research conducted under grants NSF 9630072, NSF 9814086, NSF 9996372, NSF 9996415, NSF 1139266, NSF 1321411. H. Maschner, Principal Investigator. These artifacts were scanned with either a Faro Edge Arm or a Minolta Vivid 9i. Processed in Geomagic or Polyworks. 2-8 photos were used for texture in Geomagic Wrap. Original digitizing work done at the IVL at Id. St. Univ. Stamped jar fragment, Calatrava la Vieja, Esp.

Stamped jar fragment from Calatrava la Vieja, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. Islamic almohad period (1195-1212 CE). This artifact was found in the 2017 excavations in the south-east sector of the medina, next to the western wall of the alcázar. The jar ("yabiya" in arabic) was the most common container for the storage and transport of liquids and solids during the andalusian period in the Iberian Peninsula. To its utilitarian function, it added a decorative value, particularly since the 12th century, when this kind of pieces were profusely decorated with printed stamps with epigraphic, geometric or plant motifs. In this case, the jar has a horizontal band around the base of the neck, stamped with epigraphic motifs. After the jar was broken, some of its fragments were burned, and others not. Effects of fragmentation at fine scale in Mediterranean mountain grasslands

<p>European mountain grasslands suffer a process of abandonment and are colonized by shrubs and forest. This makes a fragmentation at fine scale where a matrix forest surrounds the grassland fragments. Multiple studies have been realized about grassland fragmentation but in anthropic matrix like crops. There is no knowledge about the effect of fragmentation on the abandoned grasslands where the isolation can be minor but not the environmental change due to the surrounding forest in the smallest fragments. In this work, we studied abandoned Mediterranean mountain grasslands in an oak forest matrix. We surveyed the grassland communities and their soil properties in multiple fragments of different sizes and isolation. We classified the communities into different functional groups and calculated landscape variables of fragmentation. Then, we analysed the effect of the fragmentation on the richness of the functional groups and the grassland community. The results show that the fragmentation does not have any effect on the grasslands except on the communities in the extreme gradient of the vegetation succession, the annuals and fringe forest communities. The landscape configuration does not have effects on the grasslands. The smallest grasslands favoured the herbaceous fringe forest and the decrease of the annuals, due to higher amounts of soil organic carbon and less light availability and wetter conditions. Annual grasslands are more abundant in bigger fragments with drier conditions. The connectivity among fragments is not a problem for the grassland communities at fine scale. The typical grassland species show that they remain even in the smallest fragments although in theses the community is more similar to the forest fringe.</p>

Made with CapturingReality. A left, the remains of the frame of a door, to dr. three crowns. Their presence is explained by the inscription, on this fragment as well as on an aufre, known thanks to a copy, but found only in 1933. The owner of the tomb began his career with the archives and treasury of the State , to be crowned then agoranome and strategist by the council and the people, as indicated by the Brussels fragment. Lastly, the gerontia, the college of old men, awarded a crown to the deceased, for having built, beside the market of which he was formerly responsible, the public weighing, which was joined by a bureau of weights and measures.
