Worldwide benchmark of modelled solar irradiance data annex
<p>This data annex contains the supplementary data to the IEA PVPS Task 16 report "Worldwide benchmark of modeled solar irradiance data" from 2023. The dataset includes visualizations and tables of the results as well as information concerning the reference stations.</p> <p>The dataset contains the following type of files:</p> <ul> <li>StationList.xlsx: list of all stations, including their coordinates, climate zone, station code, continent, altitude AMSL, data source, number of available test data sets, station type (Tier-1 or Tier-2), and available calibration record.</li> <li>Result tables in folder “ResultTables”: Folders “climate_zones” and “continents” contain the tables described in Section 5.3. The filenames are “Component_metric_in_subgroup.html” with “component” DNI or GHI, “metric” describing the metric (see Table 3), and “subgroup” describing the continent or climate zone.</li> <li>World maps: The folder “Resultmaps” contains world maps of the metrics described in Section 5.2. Either four or three metrics, depending on the map, are included in each pdf. A legend describing the meaning of the point size is also included.</li> <li>Scatter plots of test vs. reference irradiance: The folder “Scatterplots” contains two folders, “DNI” and “GHI”, for the two investigated components. Three subfolders are also contained in these two folders: <ul> <li>The subfolders “plotsPerSiteYear” contain plots named “scatOverviewCOMPONENT_SITEYYYY.png”, where “COMPONENT” is either DNI or GHI, SITE is the three-letter site abbreviation, and YYYY is the evaluated year. The png plots include the scatterplots for all test data sets evaluated for the case specified by the filename.</li> <li>The subfolders “plotsPerTestdataProvider” contain plots named “scatOverviewTESTDATASET_COMPONENTYYYY.png”, where “TESTDATASET” describes the test data set, “COMPONENT” is either DNI or GHI, and YYYY is the evaluated year. The png plots include the scatterplots for all sites evaluated for the case specified by the filename.</li> <li>The subfolders “plotsPerTestdataProviderSamePosPerStat” contain the same scatterplots as “plotsPerTestdataProvider”, but using a slightly different visualization method. Here, the position of each scatterplot for a given site within the plot is always the same. Although this yields many empty subplots and small scatterplots, it can be helpful to rapidly browse through the plots if only one or a few stations are of interest.</li> </ul> </li> </ul>
Effects of Gamma Irradiation on Soil Samples
<p>Linear and mass attenuation coefficients are widely used in the study of gamma rays, calculation of photon penetration and energy deposition in biological shielding, in industry, agriculture and other materials. There are various reports on the measurements of these quantities by scientists.</p> <p>Singh et.al (1991) measured energy absorption coefficients for gamma rays in different soil samples by applying Bradley et. al .(1989) technique. Jahagirdar (1992) determined narrow beam attenuation coefficients of 320 keV photons, emitted from 51Cl radioisotope in various high Z materials such as (CH3COO)2.Pb.3H2O; Pb(NO3); Na2WO4.2H2O by using NaI (Tl) spectrometer system coupled to 1 k multichannel analyzer and results are compared with tabulations of Hubbel (1992). The self absorption factors were determined by Yu Cagin et.al.(1990).</p> <p>So far, evaluation of both types of coefficient (attenuation and energy absorption) for gamma rays has been performed for materials in solid and crystal forms. Mixture rule for theoretical calculation of absorption coefficients developed for elements by Hubbell (1982).</p> <p>Dr. M.T. Teli and Dr. L. M. Chaudhari (1994) developed mixture rule for liquid and studied the linear absorption coefficient of various gamma radiation by dilute solutions of various salts such as sodium chloride, potassium chloride, ammonium chloride and aluminium chloride, etc. at various concentrations by using gamma energies.</p> <p>In view of the importance of the study of gamma attenuation properties of materials and its various applications in science, technology, agriculture and human health, we have embarked on study of the absorption properties of soil samples containing various Chemical and Physical properties composed of various elements.</p> <p>By using the previous techniques, we explore the validity of the expected exponential absorption law for gamma radiation in soil samples collected from different areas of Nanded, Latur, Osmanabad District from Maharashtra and Bidar District from Karnataka of India. We also studied the behavior of soil density with gamma attenuation coefficient at various energies.</p>

<p>The collection of uploaded files constitutes a dataset supporting our findings, titled Dominance of Auger excitation in beam heating in transmission electron microscopy: Irradiation experiments and quantitative thermal analysis of α-Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>, to be submitted to a scientific journal. The input file for finite element analysis, with the ".inp" extension, is also included.</p>
