Data_ Integrating torrefaction of pulp industry sludge with anaerobic digestion to produce bioenergy and biochemicals: Techno-economic and environmental feasibility analysis

<p>In order to improve the economic competitiveness of bioenergy carriers and biochemicals, they must be produced<br> from low-cost or no-cost feedstock and at a reduced operational expenses. In that regard, this study<br> focused on understanding the techno-economic feasibility of using pulp sludge as a low-cost alternative feedstock<br> to forestry biomass in torrefaction. Economic feasibility of further integrating pulp sludge torrefaction with<br> anaerobic digestion to produce energy, biomethane and volatile fatty acids (VFA) was also studied. The operational<br> expenses were around 8.2 and 2.04 M&euro; and the minimum selling price of torrefied pellets was 407 and<br> 189 &euro;/t for forestry biomass torrefaction and pulp sludge torrefaction respectively. In case of integrated approaches,<br> VFA production showed higher economic feasibility with a torrefied pellets selling price of 163 &euro;/t<br> compared with biomethane production (213 &euro;/t). The biomethane and VFA selling price can be reduced by 90<br> and 64% compared with current market price at torrefied pellets selling price of 260 &euro;/t. Sensitivity analysis<br> revealed that, moisture content of the sludge is the main influencing parameter on the overall economic feasibility<br> of the pulp sludge torrefaction. The environmental analysis showed that pulp sludge torrefaction has higher<br> emissions compared with forestry biomass torrefaction.</p>

Political, economic, and governance attitudes of blockchain users

<p>Survey data on the political, economic, and governance attitudes of blockchain users with accompanying description, visualization, and analysis.</p> <p>The&nbsp;<a href="https://metagov.typeform.com/cryptopolitics">Cryptopolitical Typology Quiz</a>&nbsp;was developed by the&nbsp;<a href="https://metagov.org/">Metagovernance Project</a>&nbsp;to help the crypto community understand its political, economic, and governance beliefs. Survey results were collected from September 27, 2021 through March 4, 2022 and have been published on the&nbsp;<a href="https://airtable.com/shr9LYMni8pBUVD6q/tblvwbt4KFm8MOSUQ">Govbase Airtable database</a>.</p> <p>This repository contains both a CSV export of the relevant results and the Python code used to visualize the distribution of responses, investigate the importance of blockchain affiliation and self-reported political orientation, and assess the validity of our constructed political score and types against any axes or features that emerge from the data.</p> <p>To view the results, check out the two Jupyter notebooks in this repository, paste the links to them into&nbsp;<a href="https://nbviewer.org/">nbviewer</a>&nbsp;for prettier in-browser viewing, or fork this repository and run them yourself!</p> <p>If you are interested in supporting ongoing work on the Cryptopolitics project, please get in touch with&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/metagov/cryptopolitics-paper/blob/master/josh@metagov.org">josh@metagov.org</a>. WP6 Deliverable 6.1 Literature Review - Legitimate crisis governance and economic sustainability

<p>The outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic was not only a public health crisis of unprecedented proportions in recent times, it also triggered an economic and social crisis whose consequences will be felt in our societies and economies for years. The decision-making and implementation of the social, economic and fiscal measures in response to the pandemic challenged the economic and fiscal sustainability of states. and simultaneously has raised valid questions about the legitimacy of Covid-19-crisis management. Such concerns are particularly relevant for multilevel systems where (at least) two levels of government are responsible for these areas and decision-making is characterised by either divided or shared powers. This paper reviews existing studies, indexes and databases dealing with the design and effects of the social, fiscal and economic measures in multilevel systems. It addresses general issues around crisis management in multilevel systems general in terms as well as in relation to the social, economic and fiscal measures introduced during the pandemic. The paper also focuses on the role of domestic and transnational governance arrangements in dealing with Covid-19. The review provides an important source to examine policy responses in the context of our study of the legitimacy of social, economic and fiscal measures in multilevel systems.</p>

Waste not, want not: microsatellites remain an economical and informative technology for conservation genetics

<p>Comparisons of microsatellite and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have found that SNPs outperform microsatellites in population genetic analyses, calling into question the continued utility of microsatellites in population and landscape genetics. Yet highly polymorphic markers may be of value in species that have reduced genetic variation. This study repeated analyses previously done using microsatellites with SNPs developed from ddRAD sequencing in the black-capped vireo source-sink system. SNPs provided greater resolution of genetic diversity, population differentiation, and migrant detection but could not reconstruct parentage relationships due to insufficient heterozygosities. The biological inferences made by both sets of markers were similar: asymmetrical gene flow from source sites to the remaining sink sites. With the landscape genetic analyses, we found different results between the two molecular markers, but associations of the top environmental features (riparian, open habitat, agriculture, and human development) with dispersal estimates were shared between marker types. Despite the higher precision of SNPs, we find that microsatellites effectively uncover population processes and patterns and are superior for parentage analyses in this species with reduced genetic diversity. This study illustrates the continued applicability and relevance of microsatellites in population genetic research.</p>

PoqueiraSurveys: A Dataset on Economic Impact Surveys in the region of Barranco del Poqueira in the Alpujarra Granadina.

<p>This dataset is related to a series of surveys carried out in the Sierra Nevada National Park, specifically in the parking area of the municipality of Pampaneira, in three rounds conducted in January, March and July 2023. The main objective of these surveys was to collect relevant information on the direct and indirect costs associated with visitor travel, as well as relevant socioeconomic data and its impact on the local economy.</p> <p>To ensure that the sample of surveys was representative, they were conducted on alternate days between holidays and working days. In total, 528 valid surveys were collected, divided into 103 in the first round, 105 in the second round and 320 in the third round.</p> <p>The information obtained from these surveys provides a detailed view of how visits to the Sierra Nevada National Park impact the local economy, which is fundamental for decision making and policy planning in the park&#39;s management.</p>
