Data for: Body mass mediates spatio-temporal responses of mammals to human frequentation across Italian protected areas

<p>Protected areas (PAs) networks are a pivotal tool to fight biodiversity loss, yet they often need to balance the mission of nature conservation with the socio-economic need of giving opportunity for outdoor recreation. Recreation in natural areas is important for human health in an urbanised society, but can prompt behavioural modifications in wild animals. Rarely, however, have these responses being studied across multiple PAs and using standardized methods. We deployed a systematic camera trapping protocol at over 200 sites to sample medium and large mammals in four PAs within the European Natura 2000 network to assess their spatio-temporal responses to human frequentation, proximity to towns, amount of open habitat, and topographical variables. By applying multi-species and single-species models on the number of diurnal, crepuscular, and nocturnal detections, and a multi-species model on nocturnality index, we estimated both species-specific and meta-community level effects, finding that increased nocturnality appeared the main strategy that the mammal meta-community used to cope with human disturbance. However, responses in the diurnal, crepuscular, and nocturnal site use were mediated by species' body mass, with larger species exhibiting avoidance of humans and smaller species more opportunistic behaviours. Our results show the effectiveness of standardised sampling and provide insights for planning the expansion of PA networks as foreseen by the Kunming-Montreal biodiversity agreement.</p>

Archaeobotanical data from the Italian peninsula in the 1st millennium CE

<p><span>This dataset contains raw counts of archaeobotanical (macro-)remains from archaeological sites located in mainland Italy, dating from the 1<sup>st</sup> century BCE to the 11<sup>th</sup> century CE. The 195 carpological assemblages have been collected from a variety of published sources and reports and have been stored in a database with the relevant contextual and geographical metadata. The collection focuses on 40 plant taxa that were most commonly represented across the reviewed archaeobotanical reports, prioritising species with clear associations with agricultural activities and subsistence practices. <p>This record contains raw datarelated to article &quot;Functional characterization and immunomodulatory properties of Lactobacillus helveticus strains isolated from Italian hard cheeses &quot;</p> <p>Lactobacillus helveticus carries many properties such as the ability to survive gastrointestinal transit, modulate the host immune response, accumulate biopeptides in milk, and adhere to the epithelial cells that could contribute to improving host health. In this study, the applicability as functional cultures of four L. helveticus strains isolated from Italian hard cheeses was investigated. A preliminary strain characterization showed that the ability to produce folate was generally low while antioxidant, proteolytic, peptidase, and &beta;-galactosidase activities resulted high, although very variable, between strains. When stimulated moDCs were incubated in the presence of live cells, a dose-dependent release of both the pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-12p70 and the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, was shown for all the four strains. In the presence of cell-free culture supernatants (postbiotics), a dose-dependent, decrease of IL-12p70 and an increase of IL-10 was generally observed. The immunomodulatory effect took place also in Caciotta-like cheese made with strains SIM12 and SIS16 as bifunctional (i.e., immunomodulant and acidifying) starter cultures, thus confirming tests in culture media. Given that the growth of bacteria in the cheese was not necessary (they were killed by pasteurization), the results indicated that some constituents of non-viable bacteria had immunomodulatory properties. This study adds additional evidence for the positive role of L. helveticus on human health and suggests cheese as a suitable food for delivering candidate strains and modulating their anti-inflammatory properties.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Content Validity and Reliability of the Italian Language Version of the US National Cancer Institute's Patient-Reported Outcomes version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE®)

<p><strong>ABSTRACT </strong></p> <p><strong>Introduction: </strong>The US National Cancer Institute&rsquo;s (NCI) Patient-Reported Outcomes version of the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (PRO-CTCAE<sup>&reg;</sup>) is a library of 78 symptom terms and 124 items enabling patient reporting of symptomatic adverse events in cancer trials. This multicenter study used mixed methods to develop an Italian language version of this widely accepted measure, and evaluate content validity and reliability in a diverse sample of Italian-speaking patients.</p> <p><strong>Methods: </strong>All PRO-CTCAE items were translated in accordance with international guidelines. Subsequently, the content validity of the PRO-CTCAE-Italian was examined and iteratively refined through cognitive debriefing interviews. Participants (n=96; 52% male; median age 64 years; 26% older adults; 18% lower educational attainment) completed a PRO-CTCAE survey and participated in a semi-structured interview to determine if the translation captured the concepts of the original English language PRO-CTCAE, and to evaluate comprehension, clarity and ease of judgement. Test-retest reliability of the finalized measure was evaluated in a second sample (n=135).</p> <p><strong>Results: </strong>Four rounds of cognitive debriefing interviews were conducted. The majority of PRO-CTCAE symptom terms, attributes and associated response choices were well-understood, and respondents found the items easy to judge. &nbsp;To improve comprehension and clarity, the symptom terms for nausea and pain were rephrased and retested in subsequent interview rounds.&nbsp; Test-retest reliability was excellent for 41/49 items (84%); the median intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.83 (range 0.64-0.94).</p> <p><strong>Discussion: </strong>Results support the semantic, conceptual and pragmatic equivalence of PRO-CTCAE-Italian to the original English version, and provide preliminary evidence of content validity and reliability.</p>

Raw Data for the article: Liver transplantation for unresectable intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma: an Italian experience

<p>Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is an aggressive form of primary liver cancer treated exclusively with surgery.</p> <p>Its incidence in the western world is growing lately [<a href="https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s13304-021-01064-w#ref-CR1">1</a>] and the overall 5-year survival is poor due to late diagnosis, since patients rarely present a jaundice differently from patients affected by perihilar cholangiocarcinoma. Ideally liver resection and regional lymphadenectomy are the best treatments; however, these are unfortunately connotated by a 75% recurrence rate 5 years after surgery. Systemic chemotherapy offers a minimal response, as well as loco-regional therapy such as selective internal radiotherapy (SIRT), with a survival varying from 11 to 15&nbsp;months between the two therapies</p>

Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF), altered in the brain both of subjects with depression and obesity, provides a potential link between depression and thrombosis. Since the relationship among peripheral BDNF, depression and obesity is not well-defined, the aim of the present report has been to address this issue taking advantage of the contribution played by extracellular vesicle (EV)-derived miRNAs. <strong>Research Process</strong>: Associations among circulating BDNF, depression and EVderived miRNAs related to atherothrombosis have been evaluated in a large Italian cohort of obese individuals (n = 743), characterized by the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) score.<br> <strong>Results</strong>: BDI-II was negatively associated with BDNF levels without a significant impact of the rs6265 BDNF polymorphism; this association was modified by raised levels of IFN-g. BDNF levels were linked to an increase of 80 EV-derived miRNAs and a decrease of 59 miRNAs related to atherosclerosis and thrombosis. Network analysis identified at least 18 genes targeted by these miRNAs, 7 of which involved in depression and CV<br> risk. The observation of a possible link among BDNF, depression, and miRNAs related to atherothrombosis and depression in obesity is novel and may lead to a wider use of BDNF as a CV risk biomarker in this specific subject group.</p>

Setup: OpenScanner (www.openscan.eu) in a light tent with no artificial lightsource, Sony Alpha 77 II, SAL100M28 (100mm / f2.8 Macro) 2 chunks with 206 RAW images each, processed in lightroom, Agisoft Metashape, minor texture editing in Photoshop. NANCY SNS-JU PROJECT "ITALTEL ITALIAN IN-LAB TESTBED - LATENCY METRICS"

<p>In the context of the NANCY project (https://nancy-project.eu/), this Dataset provides input data for the development of the B-RAN and attacks models for the NANCY framework, to model training and model inference functions. The data collected plays the role of ML algorithm-specific data preparation. The dataset contains time-series, collected transmitting a video content through the Italtel "VTU - video streaming and transcoding application", that can convert audio and video streams from one format to another, at multiple encodings schemes, changing resolution, bitrate, and video parameters. The data collected are related to the observation of some of the resources involved in the Usage Scenario: &ldquo;Fronthaul network of fixed topology &ndash; Direct Connectivity/CoMP Connectivity&rdquo;. In the Italtel Italian in-lab testbed, a MEC assisted 5G network scenario with a video streaming application for generating traffic is provided. Two different scenarios were set-up, related to downstream and upstream video flows. Each file captured is associated to a 10min video streaming of the &ldquo;Big Buck Bunny&rdquo; video. This video was transmitted with different resolutions, 480p, 720p, 1080p, 2160p; both in uplink (UL) and in downlink (DL); the type of metrics monitored is RTT (Round Trip Time).</p>

FOCA (Italian FlOod and Catchment Atlas)

<p>FOCA (Italian FlOod and Catchment Atlas) is&nbsp;the first systematic collection of data of Italian river catchments for which discharge historical time series are available. Hydrometric information, including annual maximum peak discharge and average daily annual maximum discharge, is complemented by several geomorphological, climatological, extreme rainfall, land cover and soil-related catchment attributes.
