Compilation of Holocene alkenone SST records along the North Pacific margins (including a new core Oki02 in the Okinawa Trough)
<p>The sediment core Oki02 (26°04' N, 125°12' E, 1,612 m water depth), located in the Okinawa Trough, is used to analyze ~100-year-resolution alkenone-based sea surface temperature (SST) values during the Holocene. Together with previously published Holocene alkenone SST paleorecords on the pathways of a set of boundary currents flowing along the North Pacific margins, e.g., the Kuroshio Current, California Current, and Alaska Current, and available foraminiferal Globigerinoides ruber Mg/Ca-based SST records over the Western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP), we are able to investigate the centennial- to multimillennial scale variations of the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre circulation throughout the Holocene.</p>
Compiled comparative data and the R code from: "Why do some primate mothers carry their infant's corpse? A cross-species comparative study"
<p>Non-human primates respond to the death of a conspecific in diverse ways, some of which may present phylogenetic continuity with human thanatological responses. Of these responses, infant corpse carrying by mothers (ICC) is the most frequently reported. Despite its prevalence, quantitative analyses of this behaviour are scarce and inconclusive. We compiled a database of 409 published cases across 50 different primate species of mothers' responses to their infants' deaths and used Bayesian phylogenetic regressions with an information-theoretic approach to test hypotheses proposed to explain between- and within-species variation in ICC. We found that ICC was more likely when the infant's death was non-traumatic (e.g. illness) versus traumatic (e.g. infanticide), and when the mother was younger. These results support the death detection hypothesis, which proposes that ICC occurs when there are fewer contextual or sensory cues indicating death. Such an interpretation suggests that primates are able to attain an awareness of death. In addition, when carried, infant age affected ICC duration, with longer ICC observed for younger infants. This result suggests that ICC is a by-product of strong selection on maternal behaviour. The findings are discussed in the context of the evolution of emotion, and implications for evolutionary thanatology are proposed.</p>

Predicting the Install, Compile, and Test Attributes of a Library
<p>The task of selecting a third-party library is a common one, but it can be challenging due to the many factors that a developer has to consider. Previous research has mainly focused on specific attributes. In this paper, we take a comprehensive approach by identifying the most desirable attributes and examining how they are related to one another. Our work is split into three parts. First, we conduct a developer survey to rank their preferences on a set of 30 attributes from existing work, grouped into four categories: build, documentation, source code, and contribution. To confirm our results, in the second part of the study, we then mined 104,364 NPM libraries to find that the build (i.e., installation, compiling, and testing) of a library is important. Finally, in the third part of the study, we find that static source code attributes (i.e., number of files, repository size, and directories) correlate and predict the success of installing, building, and testing a library. Our work lays the groundwork on what attributes of a library are useful for predicting a successful build of a library.</p>

Compilation of HCF data of selective laser melted 316L and AlSi10Mg
<p>The file (.xlsx) contains a compilation of high-cycle fatigue data of selective laser melted 316L stainless steel and AlSi10Mg aluminium alloy. The study was carried out for uniaxial, stress-controlled loading. The experimental testing program determines the analysis of the effect of input data (material, build direction, specimen size) with assumed constants, on output data (cycles to failure). The data are used to probabilistic modelling of the size effect of mini-specimens fabricated by additive manufacturing.</p> <p>The studies were financially supported from the project 2021/05/X/ST5/00076 funded by the National Science Centre, Poland.</p>
Literature compilation for: The rise of animal biotelemetry and genetics research data integration
<p><span>The advancement and availability of innovative animal biotelemetry and genomic technologies are improving our understanding of how the movements of individuals influence gene flow within and between populations and ultimately drive evolutionary and ecological processes. There is a growing body of work that is integrating what were once disparate fields of biology, and here we reviewed the published literature up until January 2023 (139 papers) to better understand the drivers of this research and how it is improving our knowledge of animal biology. The review showed that the predominant drivers for this research were: i) understanding how individual-based movements affect animal populations, ii) analyzing the relationship between genetic relatedness and social structuring, and iii) studying how the landscape affects the flow of genes, and how this is impacted by environmental change. However, there was a divergence between taxa as to the most prevalent research aim, and the methodologies applied. We also found that after 2010 there was an increase in studies that integrated the two data types using innovative statistical techniques instead of analyzing the data independently using traditional statistics from the respective fields. This new approach greatly improved our understanding of the link between </span><span>the individual, the population, and the environment and is being used to better conserve and manage species. We discuss the challenges and limitations, as well as the potential for growth and diversification of this research approach. The paper provides a guide for researchers who wish to consider applying these disparate disciplines and advancing the field.</span></p>
