Dataset for magneto-optical spectroscopy of CsPbBr3-based perovskite nanoplatelets
<p>This dataset includes raw photoluminescence and transmission spectra acquired in a pulsed magnetic field. The values of the magnetic field in each acquisition frame of a given pulse are reported in the corresponding *.dat file. In this file, the three columns relate to the value of the field at the beginning of the acquisition, at the end of the acquisition, and to the magnetic field value averaged over the duration of the acquisition frame. For each pulse, identified as sxx, where xx is an integer from, 30 frames are acquired. The PL spectra are identified explicitly by writing PL in the file name. The transmission spectra do not have any explicit mention. The acquisition time of each frame is 2ms. Measurements carried out in the Voigt configuration are performed in the linear polarization basis. 0d indicates that the polarizer is oriented parallel to the magnetic field vector. 90d indicates that the polarizer is oriented perpendicular to the magnetic field vector. The dataset is organized in three main folders, each conteining data for a given thickness of the colloidal nanoplatelets investigated.</p>

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy as a non-destructive method for analysing herbarium specimens
<p>Dried plant specimens stored in herbaria are an untapped treasure chest of information on environmental conditions, plant evolution and change over many hundreds of years. Due to their delicate nature and irreplaceability, there is limited access for analysis to these sensitive samples, particularly where chemical data is obtained using destructive techniques. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) is a chemical analysis technique that can be applied non-destructively to understand chemical bonding information and therefore functional groups within the sample. This provides the potential for understanding geographic, spatial and species-specific variation in plant biochemistry. Here we demonstrate the use of mid-FTIR microspectroscopy for the analysis of <em>Drosera</em> <em>rotundifolia</em> herbaria specimens, which were collected 100 years apart from different locations. Principal component and hierarchical clustering analysis enabled successful differentiation between three main regions on the plant (lamina, tentacle stalk and tentacle head), and between the different specimens. Lipids and protein spectral regions were particularly sensitive differentiators of plant tissues. Differences between the different sets of specimens were smaller. This study demonstrates that relevant information can be extracted from herbarium specimens using FTIR, with little impact on the specimens. FTIR therefore provides the potential as a powerful tool to unlock historic information within herbaria.</p>

This opens for exploiting these states as microenvironmental read-out parameters in bio-molecular spectroscopy and imaging, and to explore fluorophores with prominent dark-state formation yields to be used in such studies. In this work, we analyzed the singlet-triplet transitions of fluorescein by transient state (TRAST) spectroscopy and compared them with those of three synthesized carboxy-fluorescein derivatives, with one, two or four bromines linked to the anthracence backbone. By this bromination, a prominent internal heavy atom (IHA) enhancement of the intersystem crossing (ISC) rates was found, and a corresponding external heavy atom (EHA) enhancement upon adding potassium iodide (KI) into the fluorophore solutions. Notably, increased KI concentrations still resulted in lowered triplet state buildup in the brominated fluorophores, due to the relatively lower increase induced in the ISC, than in the triplet decay. Moreover, KI had an antioxidative effect on the fluorophores, resulting in an overall fluorescence enhancement of the brominated fluorophores. The mechanisms behind the prominent IHA effect were further investigated by density functional theory calculations, which suggest that the ISC likely takes place to a higher triplet state, followed by relaxation to the lowest triplet state.</p> <p>By TRAST measurements, performed under biologically relevant conditions and analyzing how the average fluorescence intensity of fluorescent molecules varies with a systematically varied excitation modulation, dark state transitions within very high triplet yield (>90%) fluorophores can be directly analyzed, as well as IHA and EHA effects. These measurements, not possible by other techniques such as fluorescence correlation spectroscopy, opens for bio-sensing applications based on high triplet yield fluorophores, and for characterization of high triplet yield photodynamic therapy agents, and how they are influenced by IHA and EHA effects. </p>
