Climate stressors are also increasingly affecting access to subsistence resources. Within Inuit communities, people differ in their involvement with subsistence activities, but little is known about how engagement in the cash economy (time and money available) and other socio-economic factors shape the food production choices of Inuit harvesters, and their ability to adapt to rapid ecological change. We analyse 281 foraging trips involving 23 Inuit harvesters from Kangiqsujuaq, Nunavik, using a Bayesian approach modelling both patch choice and within-patch success. Gender and income predict Inuit harvest strategies: while men, especially men from low-income households, often visit patches with a relatively low success probability, women and high-income hunters generally have a higher propensity to choose low-risk patches. Inland hunting, marine hunting, and fishing differ in the required equipment and effort, and hunters may have to shift their subsistence activities if certain patches become less profitable or less safe due to high costs of transportation or climate change (e.g., navigate larger areas inland instead of targeting seals on the sea ice). Our finding that household income predicts patch choice suggests that the capacity to maintain access to country foods depends on engagement with the cash economy.</p>

Anaerobic digestion of poultry manure to power a poultry farm in Ba: Techno-economic study
Poultry is the largest meat volume produced in Fiji, yet considering the large quantity of waste produced by this livestock, there has not been any established study nor application of the anaerobic digestion (AD) of poultry manure (PM) in the country. This paper aims to determine the techno-economic feasibility of the AD of PM to power a poultry farm in Fiji. A pilot-scale, solid-state anaerobic digestion (SSAD) was employed with mono-digestion batches of PM, and co-digestions with kitchen waste (KW) and newspaper waste (NPW). The key operational parameters of AD were measured and its influence on the biogas production were studied, whereby changes in environmental temperature had the greatest effect on biogas production. The results were then used to carry out a feasibility study of the full-scale design. The results showed that the SSAD system would generate 189.46 MWh of electricity annually, with a levelized cost of energy of FJ$0.17/KWh.

<p>Techno-economic sustainability analysis (TESA) is a methodology framework to evaluate the performance of a process under technical and economic perspective. A process can be divided into three main sections, the resources required for bio-based products, the conversion routes for the production and finally, the end-of-life alternative valorisation options. Consequently, TESA is carried out separately in the three sections and evaluates the likelihood of their different technology scales and applications and their economic feasibility.</p>
Definition of techno- economic sustainability criteria and LCC indicators for bio-based products
<p>The dataset provides a set of sustainability principles to be fulfilled by the process or the product and develops a set of criteria and indicators to show how well these sustainability principles are fulfilled. Techno-economic model of Methane pyrolysis in liquid metal bubble column reactor for hydrogen direct reduction of iron ore
<p>Reducing emissions from the iron and steel industry is essential to achieve the Paris climate goals.A new system to reduce the carbon footprint of steel production is proposed in this article by coupling hydrogen direct reduction of iron ore (H-DRI) and natural gas pyrolysis on the liquid metal surface inside a bubble column reactor. If grid electricity from the EU is used, the emissions would be 435 kgCO\textsubscript{2}/tls without considering methane leakage from the extraction, storage, and transport of natural gas. Solid carbon, produced as a by-product of natural gas decomposition, finds applications in many industrial sectors, including as a replacement for coal in coke ovens. The specific energy consumption (SEC) of the proposed system is approximately 6.3 MWh per ton of liquid steel(tls).It is higher than other competing technologies,3.48 MWh/tls for water electrolysis based DRI, and 4.3-4.5 MWh/tls for natural gas-based DRI and blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace (BF-BOF) respectively. The utilization of large quantities of natural gas, where the carbon remains unused, is the major reason for the high SEC. Preliminary analysis of the system revealed that it has the potential to compete with existing technologies to produce CO\textsubscript{2}free steel, if renewable electricity is used. Further studies on the kinetics of the bubble column reactor, H-DRI shaft furnace, design, and sizing of components, along with the building of industrial prototypes are required to improve the understanding of the system performance.</p>
Data from: Historical demography and climate driven distributional changes in a widespread Neotropical freshwater species with high economic importance
The Neotropical region exhibits the greatest worldwide diversity and the diversification history of several clades is related to the puzzling geomorphologic and climatic history of this region. The freshwater Amazon ecoregion contains the main hydrographic basins of the Neotropical region that are highly dendritic and ecologically diverse. It contains a rich and endemic fish fauna, including one of its most iconic and economically important representatives, the bony-tongue Arapaima gigas (Teleostei, Osteoglossiformes). Here, we evaluated the projected distribution of the genus in different historical periods (Present, Last Glacial Maximum, Last Interglacial Maximum and Near Future) and interpreted these results in light of the genomic diversity and modeled historical demography. For that, we combined species distribution models, population genetic analysis using SNPs and deep learning model selection. We analyzed a representative sample of the genus from the two basins where it naturally occurs, four localities in the Amazon (Am) and three in the Tocantins-Araguaia (To-Ar) basin, as well as individuals from three fish farms. We inferred a potentially smaller distribution in the glacial period, with a possible refuge in central Am. Our genetic data agrees with this result, suggesting a higher level of genetic diversity in the Am basin, compared to that observed in To-Ar. Our deep learning model comparison indicated that the To-Ar basin was colonized by the population from the Am basin. Considering a global warming scenario in the near future, A. gigas could reach an even larger range, especially if anthropogenic related dispersal occurs, potentially invading new areas and impacting their communities.

<p>This is the dataset used in the study "Hydro-economic analysis of infrastructure investment options within the Water-Energy-Food nexus in the Niger River basin". This study has been conducted within the Department of Environmental Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark as a Master Thesis project. </p> <p>The dataset describes the water-energy-food nexus of the Niger River basin used as input to the open source single objective hydro-economic optimization model WHAT-IF.
