Spatial Occurrence Data from The Ornithological Collection of The Emeritus Professor Kazi Zaker Husain Museum of the Department of Zoology, University of Dhaka, Dhaka
<p>Natural history collections are important as they provide significant information about biogeography and conservation. Occurrence data from such collections aid our understanding of species distribution, provide valuable information about historical geographic ranges and shed light on habitat loss. Here, we report such occurrence data collected from the avian collections of the Emeritus Professor Kazi Zaker Husain Museum of the Department of Zoology, University of Dhaka, Dhaka which holds Bangladesh's largest natural history collection. We restored the specimens with mild damage. As no register of collections was found, we examined bird skins to identify species and associated field slips attached to the tarsus for any available information. We extracted the date and the place of collection, the name of the collectors and identifiers where available. The data were digitized and details of all locations were geo-referenced. </p>

Deep learning for the occurrence of tipping points: training data
<p>This data accompanies the manuscript by Chengzuo Zhuge et al. “Deep learning for the occurrence of tipping points” and the Github repository <a href="https://github.com/zhugchzo/dl_occurrence_tipping">https://github.com/zhugchzo/dl_occurrence_tipping</a>. It contains the model time series data that are used to train the deep learning algorithm. The directory <br>increased_bifurcation contains 150k time series (50k Fold, Hopf, Transcritical respectively) with parameter increasing and the directory decreased_bifurcation contains 150k time series (50k Fold, Hopf, Transcritical respectively) with parameter decreasing. The directory pitchfork contains 100k time series (50k supercritical and subcritical pitchfork respectively) with parameter increasing. Both directories contain files labels.csv and groups.csv which provide numbers corresponding to the labels (The tipping points) and groups (Training, Validation, Test) for each time series respectively.</p>
Data from: Occurrence of the isopod Archaeoniscus coreaensis new species from the Lower Cretaceous Jinju Formation, Korea
The fossil isopod crustacean genus Archaeoniscus has been known to occur in England, France and Germany during the Upper Jurassic, and in Mexico and Egypt during the Lower Cretaceous. The morphology of this genus is unique in having dorsoventrally compressed body, the cephalon set deeply into the first pereionite, pleon as wide as pereion, and a broad semicircular pleotelson. These features have resulted in placing the classification of the genus in the monotypic family Archaeoniscidae. However, due to the lack of detailed morphological data, suprafamilial classification of this genus has remained unclear, as well as its ecology and lifestyle. Here we report Archaeoniscus coreaensis n. sp. from the Jinju Formation, Gyeongsang Basin, Korea. The occurrence of Archaeoniscus in the East Asia implies that the genus may have had a worldwide distribution. The Gyeongsang Basin was a Cretaceous backarc basin, which consists of exclusively non-marine sedimentary sequences. The occurrence of this genus, therefore, indicates that Archaeoniscus successfully adapted to a freshwater ecosystem as well. Detailed anatomy including antennulae, antennae, pereiopods, and uropods was observed from well-preserved multiple specimens, which allows better understanding of the morphology of Archaeoniscus. The axial structure in the posterior part of the body, which was previously interpreted as a unique brood pouch characterizing the family, turned out to be a remnant of the hindgut. Females of all isopods and most of the members of the superorder Peracarida have a thoracic ventral brood pouch, modified from the thoracic coxal endites. Based on the morphology of the largely unmodified ambulatory pereiopods of A. coreaensis, the possibility of Archaeoniscus being ectoparasitic is discounted. Instead, the flattened body and the form of limbs of A. coreaensis would have been suitable for a benthic lifestyle.
Data from: Seeing is believing? comparing plant-herbivore networks constructed by field co-occurrence and DNA barcoding methods for gaining insights into network structures
Plant-herbivore interaction networks provide information about community organization. Two methods are currently used to document pairwise interactions among plants and insect herbivores. One is the traditional method that collects plant-herbivore interaction data by field observation of insect occurrence on host plants. The other is the increasing application of newly developed molecular techniques based on DNA barcodes to the analysis of gut contents. The second method is more appealing because it documents realized interactions. To construct complete networks, each technique of network construction is urgent to be assessed. We addressed this question by comparing the effectiveness and reliability of the two methods in constructing plant-Lepidoptera larval network in a 50 ha subtropical forest in China. Our results showed that the accuracy of diet identification by observation method increased with the number of observed insect occurrences on food plants. In contrast, the molecular method using three plant DNA markers were able to identify food residues for 35.6% larvae and correctly resolved 77.3% plant (diet) species. Network analysis showed molecular networks had three-fold more unique host plant species but fewer links than the traditional networks had. The molecular method detected plants that were not sampled by the traditional method, e.g., bamboos, bryophytes and lianas in the diets of insect herbivores. The two networks also possessed significantly different structural properties. Our study indicates the traditional observation of co-occurrence is inadequate, while molecular method can provide higher species resolution of ecological interactions.
