Thermal and percolative analysis of 3D diffuse-interface composite microstructure

<p>This dataset contains supplementary data and utilities of the publication &quot;Data-driven thermal and percolative analysis of 3D diffuse-interface composite microstructure&quot; (<a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.matdes.2023.111746">Fathidoost, 2023</a>).</p> <p>This dataset documents homogenized anisotropic thermal conductivity of the corresponding microstructure (identified by volume fraction (Vf) and aspect ratio (Ar)) as a tensor with normalized interface thermal resistance (see Table 1). Voxelized digital microstructures and utilities are also attached for visualizing the overall thermal anisotropy.</p> <p><em>Table 1: The geometrical and thermal parameters employed in the generated microstructures.</em></p> <table> <thead> <tr> <th>Parameters</th> <th>Value (Unit)</th> <th>Type</th> <th>Increment</th> </tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr> <td>Minor principal axes length</td> <td>5 (nm)</td> <td>Constant</td> <td>-</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Aspect ratio,&nbsp;<span class="math-tex">\(A_\mathrm{r}\)</span></td> <td>[1 ,6]</td> <td>Linear</td> <td>1</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Inclusion volume fraction, <span class="math-tex">\(V_\mathrm{f}\)</span></td> <td>[5, 60]</td> <td>Linear</td> <td>5</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Thermal conductivity ratio, <span class="math-tex">\(K_\mathrm{r}\)</span></td> <td>[15, 100]</td> <td>Linear</td> <td>15</td> </tr> <tr> <td>Normalized interface resistance,&nbsp;<span class="math-tex">\(\tilde{R}_\mathrm{s} \)</span></td> <td>[1e-6, 1e10]</td> <td>Logarithmic</td> <td>1e2</td> </tr> </tbody> </table> <p><strong>Notice:</strong> The digital microstructure has been voxelized and stored in the ExodusII format, which can be loaded and visualized by the post-processing software, such as ParaView. In order to perform the homogenization, interface smoothening is required, i.e., to generate diffuse interfaces. In this work, we smoothened the interface by operating transient Allen-Cahn calculation with finite timesteps. Sec. 2.1 of the publication for more information).</p>

Unconventional correlated insulator in CrOCl-interfaced Bernal bilayer graphene

<p>&nbsp;&nbsp;Gap opening in a wide-enough doping range, whilst keeping high conductance outside this gapped state, has remained a grand challenge in graphene since decades. Here, we show a unique heterostructure of Bernal-stacked bilayer graphene (BLG) atop few-layered CrOCl, which enables a surface state in CrOCl under vertical electric fields, and it promotes electron-electron(e-e) interactions in BLG via Coulomb long ranged coupling. Consequently, at the charge neutral, a crossover from single particle insulating behavior to an unconventional correlated insulator is seen, below a critical temperature. The over1 G&Omega; insulating ground state exists in a widely accessible gate range,&nbsp; and can be switched into a metallic state with an on/off ratio up to 107, by applying an in-plane electric field, heating, or by gating. A logic inverter using such correlated insulator is demonstrated, despite that it works still at low temperature. Our findings of the correlated insulating phase in CrOCl/BLG heterosystem paves the way for future engineering of exotic quantum electronic states in the paradigm of interfacial charge coupling.</p>

Resource selection by New York City deer reveals the effective interface between wildlife, zoonotic hazards, and humans

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Although the role of host movement in shaping infectious disease dynamics is widely acknowledged, methodological separation between animal movement and disease ecology has prevented researchers from leveraging empirical insights from movement data to advance landscape scale understanding of infectious disease risk. To address this knowledge gap, we examine how movement behavior and resource utilization by white-tailed deer (<em>Odocoileus virginianus</em>) determines blacklegged tick (<em>Ixodes scapularis</em>) distribution, which depend on deer for dispersal in a highly fragmented New York City borough. Multi-scale hierarchical resource selection analysis and movement modeling provide insight into how deer's movements contribute to the risk landscape for human exposure to the Lyme disease vector–<em>I. scapularis</em>. We find deer select highly vegetated and accessible residential properties which support blacklegged tick survival. We conclude the distribution of tick-borne disease risk results from individual resource selection by deer across spatial scales in response to habitat fragmentation and anthropogenic disturbances.</span></p>

Molecular reshaping of phage-displayed Interleukin-2 at beta chain receptor interface to obtain potent super-agonists with improved developability profiles-primary dataset

<div class="c-message_kit__blocks c-message_kit__blocks--rich_text"> <div class="c-message__message_blocks c-message__message_blocks--rich_text"> <div class="p-block_kit_renderer"> <div class="p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper p-block_kit_renderer__block_wrapper--first"> </div> </div> </div> </div> <p>Interleukin-2 (IL-2) had been been engineered up to now by yeast display and in silico rational design. In this article we reshaped IL-2 interface with the IL-2 receptor beta subunit to increase binding affinity between both interacting partners, using phage display. Multiple IL-2 mutated variants were selected from large phage-displayed libraries, showing shared molecular patterns. An accumulation of negative charges in the segment 81-87 of IL-2 primary sequence was observed, as well as the strong preponderance of the replacement I92L. The first feature contributed to an optimized electrostatic complementarity between IL-2 and IL-2 receptor beta chain, resulting in higher affinity and faster association kinetics than the ones of previously reported H9 superkine retrieved from yeast display libraries. The presence of a Leu residue at position 92 was the key molecular determinant for a favourable biophysical profile characterized by high stability and production in mammalian-cell based recombinant systems, and decreased aggregation propensity. The new beta super-binders behaved as potent super agonists, both in vitro and in vivo. The latter scenario showed their better preformance when compared to both non-mutated IL-2 and H9. The current dataset contains source data for graphics showing frequency mutations and charge distribution among unselected variants contained in phage-displayed libraries and selected clones enriched after selection on immobilized beta chain. Data showing the direct comparison between different IL-2 mutated variants produced as Fc-fusion proteins are also presented. The comparison includes the results of beta chain binding assays (ELISA), proliferation and phosphorylation assays in vitro, in vivo expansion of lymphocyte populations and anti-tumor activity in animal models. Taken together, the above described data support the unique features of the new beta super-binders and their potential as immunostimulatory and anti-cancer agents.</p>
