Development of a national point-of-care ultrasound training course for physicians in Japan: A 3-year evaluation

<p><strong>Purpose</strong>: Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) allows bedside clinicians to acquire, interpret, and integrate ultrasound images into patient care. Although the availability of POCUS training courses has increased, the educational effectiveness of these courses is unclear.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong>: From 2017 to 2019, we investigated the educational effectiveness of a standardized 2-day hands-on POCUS training course and changes in pre- and post-course exam scores in relationship to participants&rsquo; (n = 571) clinical rank, years of POCUS experience, and frequency of POCUS use in clinical practice.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong>: The mean pre- and post-course examination scores were 67.2 (standard deviation [SD] 12.3) and 79.7 (SD 9.7), respectively. Higher pre-course examination scores were associated with higher clinical rank, more years of POCUS experience, and more frequent POCUS use (p &lt; 0.05). All participants showed significant changes in pre- to post-course exam scores. Though pre-course scores differed by clinical rank, POCUS experience, and frequency of POCUS use, differences in post-course scores according to participant baseline differences were non-significant.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong>: A standardized hands-on POCUS training course is effective for improving POCUS knowledge regardless of baseline differences in clinical rank, POCUS experience, or frequency of POCUS use. Future studies shall evaluate changes in POCUS use in clinical practice after POCUS training.</p>

National forest inventory data for a size-structured forest population model

<p>In forest communities, light competition is a key process for community assembly. Species' differences in seedling and sapling tolerance to shade cast by overstory trees is thought to determine species composition at late-successional stages. Most forests are distant from these late-successional equilibria, impeding a formal evaluation of their potential species composition. To extrapolate competitive equilibria from short-term data, we therefore introduce the JAB model, a parsimonious dynamic model with interacting size-structured populations, which focuses on sapling demography including the tolerance to overstory competition. We apply the JAB model to a two-"species" system from temperate European forests, i.e. the shade-tolerant species Fagus sylvatica L. and the group of all other competing species. Using Bayesian calibration with prior information from external Slovakian national forest inventory (NFI) data, we fit the JAB model to short timeseries from the German NFI. We use the posterior estimates of demographic rates to extrapolate that F. sylvatica will be the predominant species in 94% of the competitive equilibria, despite only predominating in 24% of the initial states. We further simulate counterfactual equilibria with parameters switched between species to assess the role of different demographic processes for competitive equilibria. These simulations confirm the hypothesis that the higher shade-tolerance of F. sylvatica saplings is key for its long-term predominance. Our results highlight the importance of demographic differences in early life stages for tree species assembly in forest communities.</p>

The last sedimentary sequence, situated east of the Cerna River, on the northern rim of the Dacian Basin is composed of detritic deposits containing rare Mactra Linnaeus 1767 remains, characteristic of the Bessarabian and Khersonian, while eastwards, towards Râmnicu Vâlcea these detritic deposits overlay the Lower Bessarabian formations with C. pesanseris, and above these, the Maeotian deposits, predominantly detritic, composed of sands and sandy marls with gravel interlays follow (Bercia et al., 1968).

Preserving the National Geothermal Data System's Geothermal Features and Observations Dataset (AASG-GDS)

<p>The National Geothermal Data System (NGDS) is a distributed, interoperable network of data collected from state geological surveys across all fifty states and the nation&rsquo;s leading academic geothermal centers (<a href="https://data.geothermaldata.org">https://data.geothermaldata.org</a>). The system houses a variety of geoscientific data ranging from text reports, geologic maps, photo imagery, well logs, chemical and mineral assays, and various other research products. Its flagship data product was a collection of structured tables describing geologic wells, other geologic sampling features, and associated observations (e.g., heat flow, aqueous chemistry). These data tables remain the most heavily requested NGDS product, but institutional, financial, and technical instability among NGDS and its partnered data contributors has made access to this dataset erratic in recent years. In response, the Arizona Geological Survey (AZGS) and the U.S. Geosciences Information Network (USGIN) partnered to repackage and republish these datasets in trusted scientific archives under the codename AASG-GDS.&nbsp;</p> <p>An ArcGIS Online web map version of the ESRI File Geodatabase included in this packet can be viewed at https://uagis.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=7b39964a182d4abdaccc2b064e47721b.</p>

<p>The article presents the research performance of newly established technical institutes in India. It gives an overview of NTU and NIRF ranking methodologies. This research would help institutions to check their performance and identify ways to strengthen their rank by producing more output with high-impact research work. The article provides appropriate input to the technical institutions under the study to set out practical and pedagogical approaches, and cross-institutional as well as international collaboration to achieve their research goals. The article gives rank to the technical institutes under the study based on their research performance using the NTU ranking methodology.</p>

<p>The questionnaire consisted of a general section meant to identify the type of the company, the region of its activity and the average number of employees together with with details of the respondent&rsquo;s job position. The purpose of the second part of the questionnaire was to define the variables that make it possible to describe the company. These included the following ten: 1) sustainable<br> manufacturing; 2) green human resource management; 3) knowledge and awareness of ecology and sustainability; 4) environmental management; 5) green marketing; 6) environmentally friendly product design; 7) green supply chains; 8) closed-loop waste management; 9) zero waste buildings; 10) minimising the use of resources, including energy. Subsequently, based on the literature devoted to green competences, the questions were divided into four categories: knowledge, skills, attitudes and performance-related managerial skills.
