Educational data collected from parents - regarding the analysis of online activities in schools in Romania (during the Covid-19 pandemic, March 2020 - April 2020)
<p>The responses of the 784 parents were collected through the questionnaire available at: <a href="https://forms.gle/Km8WE5QamrYYgXJi7" target="_new" rel="noopener"><strong>https://forms.gle/Km8WE5QamrYYgXJi7</strong></a></p> <p>It was designed with various types of responses, including binomial (yes/no), polynomial (multiple options), and open-ended responses, to capture a comprehensive range of data. This combined approach allows for both quantitative analysis of fixed-response questions and qualitative insights from open-ended questions. Patterns, correlations, and differences between various demographic groups and their experiences and attitudes toward online education can be identified.</p> <p>To protect the identity of the respondents and to obtain accurate responses, all data collected from teachers was anonymous. We did not collect any personal information whatsoever. This aspect was made clear to the respondents in the description of the questionnaire.</p>
Spatially resolved single-cell atlas unveils a distinct cellular signature of fatal lung COVID-19 in a Malawian population
<p>This record contains all the fully processed single cell RNA sequencing objects included in the paper Nyirenda et al (2024) '<em>Spatially resolved single-cell atlas unveils a distinct cellular signature of fatal lung COVID-19 in a Malawian population</em>'. </p> <h3>Abstract</h3> <p><em>Postmortem single-cell studies have transformed understanding of lower respiratory tract diseases (LRTD) including Covid19, but there is minimal data from African settings where HIV, malaria and other environmental exposures may affect disease pathobiology and treatment targets. We used histology and high-dimensional imaging to characterise fatal lung disease in Malawian adults with (n=9) and without (n=7) Covid19, and generated single-cell transcriptomics data from lung, blood and nasal cells. Data integration with other cohorts showed a conserved Covid19 histopathological signature, driven by contrasting immune and inflammatory mechanisms: in USA, European and Asian cohorts by type I/III interferon responses, particularly in blood-derived monocytes, in the Malawi cohort, by response to interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) in lung-resident macrophages. HIV status had minimal impact on histology or immunopathology. <p><strong><span>Resilience of primary health care facilities – experiences from 16 European countries during the Covid-19 pandemic. A mixed-methods study conducted by EURIPA.</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span>Abstract</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span>Background</span></strong></p> <p><span>The role of primary care during a pandemic varies across European countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has altered the working practices of family medicine doctors. It has also impacted the resilience of health systems.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Objectives</span></strong><span> </span></p> <p><span>This study aimed to examine European health system responses to the pandemic, focusing on rural and urban differences.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Material and methods</span></strong></p> <p><span>This cross-sectional, mixed-methods study used a semi-structured online questionnaire with 68 questions, including 21 free-text comments. Data were collected from May 2020 to January 2021. Key informants from sixteen EURIPA member countries distributed questionnaires to 406 primary care doctors. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and non-parametric tests (Chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, Mann-Whitney U) with a significance threshold of 0.05. </span></p> <p><strong><span>Results</span></strong></p> <p><span>A statistically significant difference was found between rural (36.4%, 55/151), semirural (19.4%, 24/124), and urban populations (29.8%, 39/131) regarding medicine shortages (χ² = 9.91, df = 4, p = 0.042). <span> </span>The semirural one proved to have a statistically significant difference with the other settings(chi-square post-hoc test, p = 0.004 in post-hoc chi-square test). Significant differences were found between countries in resilience features including, Effectiveness of triage, Adapting to the rapidly changing requirements, Government help, Existence of a community resilience group, Improved interprofessional collaboration, Medicine Shortage and GPs involved in palliative care.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Conclusions</span></strong></p> <p><span>Medicine shortage was more prevalent in rural and urban areas compared to semirural ones. Differences were observed between countries in their responses to the pandemic, particularly in Adapting to the rapidly changing requirements, Effectiveness of triage, Government help, Existence of a Community resilience group. Qualitative analysis confirmed these disparities.</span></p> <p><span>The results emphasize the need for tailored approaches considering diverse contexts in shaping effective health system resilience.</span></p>

WORK-LIFE BALANCE OF THE EMPLOYED POPULATION DURING THE EMERGENCY SITUATION OF COVID-19 IN LATVIA
<p>All the employees face the challenge of finding the right work-life balance. The ability of employees to deal with the successful combining of work, family responsibilities, and personal life is crucial for both employers and family members of employees. During the COVID-19 emergency situation, many people around the world were forced to work remotely. Initially, there were observed some certain expectations about the possibility of working from home as a positive factor that will promote work-life balance. However, over time, negative tendencies were also revealed, as employees were only one call or message away from the employer, and uncertainty and leisure time with family often created more stress. As many organizations and individuals were not ready for this sudden change, many mistakes were made, which further raised the issue of work-life balance. The aim of the research was to evaluate the flexibility of reconciling work and private life of Latvian employees in various socio-demographic groups during the COVID-19 emergency situation in spring 2020, to investigate how family life influenced employees’ ability to perform work duties, to find out if employees had any additional housework responsibilities and how their workload changed concerning housework amount during the COVID-19 emergency situation. The research is based on the data obtained in the survey of the Latvian employed population, which was conducted within the framework of the Latvian National Research Programme Project “CoLife” in the second half of 2020. As a result, the hypothesis of the research that all groups of employees experienced work-life balance difficulties during the COVID-19 emergency situation has been partially confirmed, i.e. women in the 18-44 age group and respondents with minor children in the household more likely faced difficulties of work-life balance. The scientific research methods that were used in the research are the monographic method, content analysis, survey, data processing with SPSS to determine the mutual independence of the data from the questionnaires. </p>
Reporting uncertified science in the news media during the Covid-19 pandemic
<p>Preprints have established a stable position in the dissemination of scientific findings. This position has been reinforced by the Covid-19 pandemic, which required the rapid dissemination of new scientific information. However, in most cases, preprints have not undergone peer review and, as a consequence, lack the scientific rigor of other scientific publications such as journal articles. This presents a challenge for journalists who are tasked with keeping the public informed about the latest scientific developments in the context of great uncertainty during a global pandemic. Having to report on rapidly changing circumstances under increasing pressure from social media while also having to compete for attention in a saturated media landscape might place strain on the adherence to journalistic norms. This does not only have implications in terms of the case-by-case accuracy of reporting, but on the public perception of science at large.</p> <p>This paper investigates the reporting of scientific information from pre-preprints based on a sample of 2,877 online news articles related to Covid-19 in the South African news media. Data set for AYUSH interventions for COVID-19- A Living Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
<p>The COVID-19 pandemic has put a huge strain on governments and medical professionals all across the world.<br> To identify acceptable treatments, many clinical studies from the Indian system of Traditional Medicines [Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH)] have been conducted. Objective of the study is determine the efficiency of the Traditional System of Indian Medicine (AYUSH system) in lowering the incidence, duration, and severity of COVID-19 through a living systematic review and meta-analysis. We will search the following databases e.g; Pubmed; the Cochrane central register of controlled trials (CENTRAL); the Clinical Trials Registry - India (CTRI); Digital Helpline for Ayurveda Research Articles (DHARA): AYUSH research portal; WHO COVID-19 database etc. Clinical improvement, WHO ordinal scale, viral clearance, incidences of COVID-19 infection, and mortality will be considered as primary outcomes. Secondary outcomes will be use of O2 therapy or mechanical ventilator, admission to high dependency unit or emergency unit, duration of hospitalization, the time to symptom resolution, and adverse events. The review will be updated bi-monthly with two updates. It will provide practitioners, guideline developers, and authorities with up-to-date syntheses on interventions on a regular basis to help them make health-care decisions about AYUSH therapies for COVID-19 management. Study is supported by World Health Organization, South East Asia Regional Office, New Delhi, India. Here, we shared the result of our search strategy of our project and data extraction tool developed.</p>

<p>Contexte</p> <p>Ce dataset est mis à disposition dans le cadre du projet MESCOV « les media sociaux lors de la crise Covid-19 » financé par le Comité analyse, recherche et expertise (CARE) du Ministère de l’Education Supérieure, de la Recherche et de l’Innovation. Le projet MESCOV traite des aspects création et circulation de l’information sur les media sociaux lors de la crise COVID-19, des initiatives citoyennes qui y ont émergé et des pratiques des professionnels de la gestion de crise associées (notamment Service d’Incendie et de Secours et Préfecture).</p> <p>C’est un projet pluridisciplinaire qui mobilise à la fois les Sciences de l’Informatique et de la Donnée pour le module base de données et algorithme d’apprentissage automatique et les Sciences Humaines et Sociales pour la partie documentation des mécanismes de création, de circulation et de vérification de l’information sur les media sociaux, l’émergence d’initiatives citoyennes et l’utilisation des médias sociaux par les institutionnels (Camozzi, et al., 2020, à paraître).</p> <p>Acquisition des données et constitution du jeu de tweets</p> <p>Ce jeu de tweets a été généré à partir du dataset proposé par Banda et al. COVID-19's lockdown and time allocation in Russian households
<p>The database contains the survey on <strong>the changes of gender time allocation during two waves of the coronavirus lockdown (self-isolative restrictions) in Russia</strong>. Self-isolation included shift to remote work and study, the closure of childcare facilities, restrictions of mobility, etc.</p> <p> </p> <p>Sample information</p> <p>The survey was conducted on Yandex.Survey platform. The first wave was conducted on 22-23<sup> th</sup> of May, 2020, after 2 months of the beginning of first lockdown. The second wave took place on 17-19<sup>th</sup> of November, 2020 after 1 month of the second lockdown’start.</p> <p>Data was collected via online service Yandex.Survey. The platform offers a service for conducting an online survey among 50 million users of the Yandex advertising network with the ability to make a random sample, including a sample by demographic, geographic and some socio-economic characteristics.</p> <p>The respondents were women of predominantly working/reproductive age (15-55) from Russia. 1411 women took part in the first wave and 1408 in the second. After cleaning data and removing outliers 2795 respondents left.</p> <p>The coincidence of the distributions with the general population in terms of the main parameters (age, size of the settlement, employment, household composition) is satisfactory. The observed (insignificant) deviations are as follows: the proportion of women aged 30-43, living in cities with a population over one million has increased; decreased - at the age of 50-54 years, living in settlements with a population of less than 100 thousand people working in agriculture.</p> <p> </p> <p>The female respondents were asked if they spend more or less time household chores and care, including: cleaning, cooking, laundry, shopping, management, child care, other care or nothing. If a woman marked, that she is living with a partner during the lockdown, she was also asked if her partner spends more or less time on each chore.</p> <p>The survey also includes questions concerning the occupation type (work, work and study, study, child care leave, doesn’t work), if a woman works (or works and studies), how the lockdown effected on her job: shift to remote work, fired, paid leave, unpaid leave, no income on restrictions, continues in-person work, and if a woman lives with a partner the same question was asked considering his work on the lockdown. Further, occupational features were divided into three: income (or husband’s income) means that a woman (or her partner) has her income on the lockdown which includes remote work, in person work, paid leave; gotowork means a woman (in her partner’s case – husb_gotowork) continues in person work; and distant if a woman is working online (husb_distant for her partner). Further, we asked whether a woman has an experience of remote work: no, and it is impossible, no, but it is possible, yes. We also asked about the size and type of her employer (small, medium, large firm or state firm).</p> <p>The next set of questions considers who a woman is living with on self isolation: alone, children, partner, parents, parents-in-law, others. These new features are restricted to answers of women who live with partners. Whether a woman marks that she spends less(more) time on the chore and her husband spends more(less) time on that exact type of chore, that means he does it instead of his wife. Whether both a woman and her partner spend more (less) time one the chore, it means they do it together.</p> <p>The variable “type of enterprise” was built on the criteria of credibility and stability during the corona-crisis from a small to a state firm (small, medium, large, state firm). Small and medium enterprises were hit the most by the pandemic (http://doklad.ombudsmanbiz.ru/2020/7.pdf), whether large and especially state firms had more resources to maintain employment and payments.</p>

In the paper, a forensic examination of the sequencing data from five COVID-19 bronchial lavage patient specimens reveals that the laboratory at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) was contaminated with a wide range of viruses, including the Nipah virus, a BSL-4 pathogen with a lethality of 50% to 92%. A video summary of the paper can be found here.</p> <p>The highlights of the paper are:</p> <ul> <li>Five patient specimens were sequenced by the WIV in December 2019 and were part of an early report on SARS-CoV-2 published by Dr. Zhengli Shi and colleagues (Nature 579, 270–273 (2020). This paper has been viewed over one million times, making it one of the most highly read paper on the pandemic virus.</li> <li>The most abundant contaminant is an undisclosed H7N9 influenza vaccine, which in one specimen is over six-times as abundant as SARS-CoV-2.</li> <li>The Nipah virus gene sequences were found in infectious cloning vectors of the type used for genetic manipulation.</li> <li>Nineteen other contaminants, including Japanese Encephalitis virus, HIV, human T-cell leukemia virus, and hepatitis delta virus were found.</li> </ul> <p>It is important to investigate why the Wuhan Institute of Virology was extensively contaminated in December 2019 as well as learn more about the undisclosed Influenza Vaccine research and Nipah virus cloning experiments. </p> <p>The Zenodo pre-print can be found here: https://zenodo.org/record/5067706#.YPtyyI4zbOg</p>
