On the north-western portal of Trier Cathedral (World Heritage Site), there are two lion heads as ring holders on the double door. The lion rings are a fitting typical of medieval church doors in the form of a plastic lion's head holding a movable ring in its mouth. In medieval animal symbolism, the lion plays an ambiguous role. It can be understood both as a symbol of Christ and as a warning against eternal damnation. Diameter of the ornamental plate 35 cm, bronze, around 1100 AD. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
