WWII Stg-44 German Rifle

The StG 44 (abbreviation of Sturmgewehr 44, "assault rifle 44") is a German selective-fire rifle developed during World War II. It is also known as the MP 43 and MP 44 (Maschinenpistole 43 and 44). The StG 44 was the first successful assault rifle, with features including a relatively short cartridge, controllable automatic fire, a more compact design than a battle rifle with a quicker rate of fire, and intended for hitting targets within a few hundred metres. The StG 44 fulfilled its role effectively, particularly on the Eastern Front, offering a greatly increased volume of fire compared to standard infantry rifles. It came too late to have much effect on the war, but did influence the Soviet AK-47 that was introduced three years after the war concluded. Its influence can still be seen in modern assault rifles. Paris catacombs - The german bunker

Evidence of the German occupation is visible beneath the streets of Paris. After WWI, bunkers and shelters began to be prepared throughout Paris to protect the population against bombs and gas attacks of a future war. Three of those shelters still exist in the catacombs, one of which is the bomb-proof bunker beneath the Montaigne high school, requisitioned in WWII by the Luftwaffe as their command post. It's a large room with interesing murals as well as some german signs painted (arrows to avoid being lost) or "Rauchen Verboten" and "Ruhe" (i.e. "Smoking prohibited" and "Silence"). Electric wires and the remains of a chemical toilet are still here. Scanned with the iPhone12 Pro and Scaniverse. WWII Kar98K German Sniper Rifle

The Karabiner 98 kurz "carbine 98 short", often abbreviated Kar98k or K98k and often incorrectly referred to as a "K98" (which was a Polish Carbine), is a bolt-action rifle chambered for the 7.92×57mm Mauser cartridge that was adopted on 21 June 1935 as the standard service rifle by the German Wehrmacht. It was one of the final developments in the long line of Mauser military rifles. Although supplemented by semi- and fully automatic rifles during World War II, it remained the primary German service rifle until the end of the war in 1945. Millions were captured by the Soviets at the conclusion of World War II and were widely distributed as military aid. YidTakNL corpus: 18th-19th centuries regulations of the High German Jewish community in Holland

<p>The <em>YidTakNL corpus</em> comprises Yiddish regulations and announcements by Amsterdam's Ashkenazi Jewish community between 1708 and 1846. All items are related to social, political and administrative aspects of community life. The <em>YidTakNL corpus</em> was produced as part of an ongoing PhD dissertation in Erasmus University Rotterdam (2021-2026) by Ronny Reshef. The bibliography in the Excel-sheet "<em>Zenodo statutes for YidTakNL</em>" is based on Mirjam Gutschow's extensive bibliography, <em>Inventory of Yiddish publications from the Netherlands: c. 1650 - c. 1950</em> (Leiden: Brill, 2007). However, it only focuses on regulations written and published by community leaders or charitable organisations for the benefit of the community. Gutschow's bibliography was rechecked, corrected, and four items were added, resulting in 64 sources. Most of the listed items are fully available online (reference is provided).<br><br>Texts from the corpus were used to train a Transkribus PyLaia HTR model. This model is dedicated to Yiddish texts printed in the Vaybertaytsh typeface, as printed in Amsterdam in the 18th century. This YidTakNL.1 Transkribus PyLaia HTR model enables researchers to decipher and read the well-known Yiddish Vaybertaytsh typeface. This Ashkenazi semi-cursive typeface (also known as Tkhine-ksav, Tsene-(u)rene-ksav, mashket/mesheyt, taytsh, vayberksav, ivre-taytsh and kleyn-taytsh), was broadly used for printing Yiddish documents between the 16th and the beginning of the 19th century across Europe and the Yiddish speaking world. As a base model, <em>The Dybbuk for Yiddish Handwriting</em> was used. The latest version of YidTakNL.1 is based on a training set size of 26331, and the CER is 0.10%. The model was based on ground-truth only [10% of the validation data], and will be made public during 2023.<br><br>Two preliminary editions of Yiddish takones (takanot) are also already published here: Takanot 1711 - YidTakNL and Takanot 1737 - YidTakNL. These will be turned into full editions, other texts will follow. Audiovisual recordings of acted casual conversations between four speakers in German

<p>This dataset was used in a study by Hendrikse et al. (2018). It contains 7 audiovisual recordings of acted casual conversations between 4 actors (two males and two females), as well as 2-3 questions about the content of each of the conversations asked by one of the speakers. The conversations last between 1min 24s to 1min 39s and the topics are food, holidays/travelling, weather, work, plans, movies and anecdotes. Two of the actors are native speakers and two are non-native speakers with a C1 level of German. The actors memorized the script and acted as in a casual conversation. The audiovisual material was recorded in a circular space with uniform purple background using two cameras (Canon EOS 700D) and one microphone for each speaker (Neumann KM 184).&nbsp;<br> Additionally the visual stimuli used in the aforementioned study&nbsp;with virtual characters is attached: a&nbsp;screencast of&nbsp;&nbsp;a simulation of each conversation with virtual characters (Makehuman) with gaze to target speaker and lip-syncing (Llorach et al. 2016). Dataset: The plural interpretability of German linking elements ("Morphology")

<p><strong>This dataset accompanies a paper to be published in &quot;Morphology&quot; (JOMO, Springer).&nbsp;Under the present DOI, all data generated for this research as well as all&nbsp;scripts used are stored. The paper itself is not CC-licensed, refer to Springer&#39;s &quot;Morphology&quot; website for details!</strong></p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>In this paper, we take a closer theoretical and empirical look at the linking elements in German N1+N2 compounds which are identical to the plural marker of N1 (such as <em>-er</em>&nbsp;with umlaut, as in <em>H&auml;us-er-meer</em>&nbsp;&#39;sea of houses&#39;).&nbsp;Various perspectives on the actual extent of plural interpretability of these pluralic linking elements are expressed in the literature.&nbsp;We aim to clarify this question by empirically examining to what extent there may be a relationship between plural form and meaning which informs in which sorts of compounds pluralic linking elements appear.&nbsp;Specifically, we investigate whether pluralic linking elements occur especially frequently in compounds where a plural meaning of the first constituent is induced either externally (through plural inflection of the entire compound) or internally (through a relation between the constituents such that N2 forces N1 to be conceptually plural, as in the example above).&nbsp;The results of a corpus study using the DECOW16A corpus and a split-100 experiment show that in the internal but not external plural meaning conditions, a pluralic linking element is preferred over a non-pluralic one, though there is considerable inter-speaker variability, and limitations imposed by other constraints on linking element distribution also play a role.&nbsp;However, we show the overall tendency that German language users do use pluralic linking elements as cues to the plural interpretation of N1+N2 compounds.&nbsp;Our interpretation does not reference a specific morphological framework.&nbsp;Instead, we view our data as strengthening the general approach of probabilistic morphology.</p>
