"Towards Responsible Publishing" - Structured organisational feedback responses

Research Consulting and the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS) were commissioned to determine to what extent the vision, mission and objectives set out in the TRP proposal serve the needs of the global research community. Through a consultative approach, we sought to assess whether there is appetite for the type of change proposed by cOAlition S in the TRP proposal. In addition, we aimed to understand how the ‘Towards Responsible Publishing’ proposal may be modified or refined to ensure it resonates with the research community and sees broad adoption; identify any showstoppers or unintended consequences and propose proactive measures to mitigate them, ensuring successful implementation; and ascertain whether the existing scholaly communication infrastructure can support this proposal and if not, identify where research funders can strengthen the infrastructure.

As part of our consultation, we gathered structured organisational feedback from underrepresented groups and organisations in the scholarly communication ecosystem. We received responses from a total of 10 organisations, of which 9 were willing to be named publicly in the document enclosed below and 1 opted to remain anonymous. We would like to thank our contributors, which include (in alphabetical order) Abel Laerte Packer (sciELO), Arianna Becerril García (Redalyc), Consejo Directivo LA Referencia, Red Latinoamericana y de España para la Ciencia Abierta (LA Referencia), Dominique Babini (CLASCO), Iryna Kuchma (EIFL), Kazuhiro Hayashi (NISTEP), Laura Rovelli (CLASCO), Milica Ševkušić (EIFL), Moumita Koley (IISc), Susan Veldesman (ASSAf) and Takayuki Hayashi (GRIPS).

Withdrawn: DZD Core Data Set - first Version published at DZD Website for internal use (obsoleted by DOI 10.21961/mdm:45923)

The German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) conducts large clinical multicenter studies in the field of diabetes and metabolic research. In this vein, a core data set (CDS) which contains a list of clinical parameters relevant for joint studies in diabetes research was established in 2021 and published for internal use at the DZD website (https://www.dzd-ev.de/en/). In 2022 a FAIRified version of the data set was published at MDM portal (https://medical-data-models.org/). This entry shows the very first version of the core data set, published as an excel file before the FAIRification. It is intended as a supplement for an article about the FAIRification process: "The Journey to a FAIR CORE DATA SET for Diabetes Research in Germany"

FAIRmat Tutorial 1: Publish and Explore Data with NOMAD

This tutorial is dedicated to FAIR data management of materials science data based on the NOMAD platform.

We will cover the whole data-life cycle: starting with data on your hard drive, we learn how to prepare, upload, publish data, and reference them with a DOI. Furthermore, we will learn how to explore, download, and use data that were published on NOMAD before. We will perform these steps with NOMAD's graphical user interface and its APIs. This is just one installment in a series of tutorials; other tutorials will cover data analysis, lab notebooks, using NOMAD locally (NOMAD Oasis), workflows, and much more.

Disclaimer: NOMAD is being continuously developed based on input and feedback from the scientific community. Hence the features, services or interface may have changed since the time of recording of this video. For up-to-date information please consult our latest tutorials and the NOMAD documentation https://nomad-lab.eu/prod/v1/docs/

Survey - Business Model Innovations in the Digital Publishing Industry: A Question of reluctance to innovate?

News Publishers today struggle with their business model: their efforts to convert their traditional business into digital products have generally proven to be futile. In order to explore a possible reluctance to innovate in the digital news publishing industry, in our study we are focusing on the Digital News Initiative (DNI) which is a partnership between Google and news publishers across Europe to support high-quality journalism through technology and foster innovation. Founded in 2015, the DNI has already funded over 460 projects across Europe with €94m. In our study we will deep dive into these projects by categorizing the type of innovation in a simple document analysis. Afterwards we will conduct a explorative survey with publishers. This will help us finding out whether they also dealt with a reluctance to innovate within their organization, what the main obstacles have been during their innovation process and how they have overcome them. The explorative results are not only valid for publishers but can also be transferred to other industries whose products and services are affected by digitalization.

Anonymus survey with 31 full answers from publishers in the DACH Region conducted with LimeSurvey in March 2018.
