Last-fm User and Artist Gender Repository

<p>Dataset consisting of Last.fm listening events data with annotated gender labels for both users and artists. <p>Data for the Bachelors thesis of Amke Jap Tjoen San, titled:&nbsp;Possible causes of the decline of the butterfly species Pyronia tithonus in the Netherlands&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>Abstract:</p> <p>Butterflies play a major role in the implementation of fundamental ecological roles. However, unfortunately the majority of the butterfly species in the Netherlands have been declining since 1992 (van Swaay, 2020). Many studies that investigate the explanation for these declines cover specialist butterfly species. These type of species have always showed to be more sensitive to changes and showed heavier declines (Ghazanfar et al., 2016). However, in the last two decades, fifty-five percent of all widespread species have shown significant declines in the Netherlands (van Swaay, 2020; Ghazanfar et al., 2016). The explanation for these declines is unknown for the majority of these species, often because these species are more difficult to model than specialist species (Fernández et al., 2015). Consequently, it is important to start researching the declines of these types of butterfly species.</p> <p>This research analyses the changing population dynamics of the widespread butterfly species Pyronia tithonus. P. tithonus is among the fifty-five percent of the widespread Dutch butterfly species that have been declining without a known explanation. The species only occurs in northern Netherlands, mainly in the province Drenthe, and in the southern provinces Zeeland, Noord-Brabant and Limburg. The individuals in the northern provinces show steeper declines than the individuals in the southern provinces. This phenomenon does not have a known explanation either. The objective of this research was, therefore, to identify unbeneficial parameters for the population abundance of P. tithonus and to test whether these parameters could explain the heavier decline in the north. Rtrim was used to calculate trends and to test the significance of the parameters.</p> <p>The results show that the following parameters are unbeneficial to the overall population abundance of P. tithonus: acoustic noise, productivity, nitrate concentration in the groundwater, mean annual precipitation, number of dry days in the year, and ammonia emissions. The following parameters positively affect the total population abundance of P. tithonus: Low values of soil nitrogen from fertilizer, buffered soils, high percentages of low vegetation, and the presence of shrubs.</p> <p>Moreover, the results suggest that the higher NOx emissions in the northern provinces can be the explanation for the heavier decline in the north. However, further research into the differences between the individuals living in the northern and southern provinces is recommended, given that NOx emissions did not show to be significant for the total population abundance. Consequently, this research suggests that the individuals in the north could differ from the individuals in the south in the way they react to their environment. This could be caused by genetic differences between the individuals in the north and in the south. However the results of this analysis alone are not sufficient to draw this conclusion.</p> <p>Therefore, the results of this research motivates further research into the genetic differences between the northern and southern individuals of P. tithonus. Moreover, it motivates the need for further research into the changing population dynamics of widespread species, because a lot of knowledge on these types of species is still lacking.</p>

Data mining tool to discover DevOps trends from public repositories: Predicting Release Candidates with gthbmining.rc

<p>Public repositories have been performing an essential role in bring- ing software and services to technical communities and general users. Most of the cases, public repositories have a DevOps tool, with a live and historical database behind it, to support delivering and all steps this software or service should adopt before going to production. This paper introduces gthbmining, a data mining set of tools to discover DevOps trends from public repositories, and presents the module gthbmining.rc. Considering the premise of a GitHub public repository, the main contribution here is pre- dicting release candidates, an important label a software release has. The methodology, architecture, components and interfaces are explained, as well as potential users. The results show a reliable and flexible tool, as classifiers metrics and graphics are provided, along with the possibility to add new data mining algorithms in the open source module presented. Related works are also supplied, and a conclusion shows the outcomes gthbmining.rc can provide.</p>

DataQI.NET: A Framework for Specifying Query Criteria Using the Repository Pattern

<p>During the construction of applications that require integration with databases, developers often dedicate a considerable amount of time writing the data access layer. Although there are some tools that aim at improving that process, it &nbsp;still demands a great amount of (usually default) code, which is error-prone, takes effort and time from the developer, and reduces the code reuse potential. This paper presents the DataQI.NET, a framework that encapsulates the complexity of those tools and makes possible the definition of customized queries through method signatures on interfaces that follow the Repository Pattern, allowing the developer to focus more on the business rules implementation. A comparative study is provided considering the implementation with and without the framework, demonstrating that, by using DataQI.NET, we obtain more homogeneous and standardized query methods that communicate, supporting code reuse and significant reduction on the lines of code and implementation time.</p>

EPSRC HEED Data Repository: Individual Appliance Monitoring System

<p>The dataset deposited here was prepared under&nbsp;the EPSRC-funded&nbsp;<a href="http://heed-refugee.coventry.ac.uk/">Humanitarian Engineering and Energy for Displacement</a>&nbsp;research project (EP/P029531/1). The project aimed to understand energy needs of displaced communities, create an evidence base on the usage of different energy interventions and provide recommendations for improved design of future energy interventions to better meet the needs of people.&nbsp;</p> <p>As part of the project, we deployed an Individual Appliance Monitoring (IAM) System&nbsp;in the Uttargaya settlement in Nepal. The Individual Appliance Monitoring System provides a simple, cost-effective and unobtrusive method of collecting data on the energy usage of connected appliances with the aim to: Evaluate energy consumption of different appliances and Evaluate usage patterns for different appliances.</p> <p>The monitoring system comprises of 2 types of devices &ndash; Energenie MiHome Smart Plugs MIHO005 (i.e. Individual Appliance Monitors (IAM)) to sense data relating to power and voltage drawn by the connected appliance, and gateway nodes to collect data from IAM. The unit cost of a MIHO005 adaptor and Raspberry Pi-based gateway is &pound;34.99 and &pound;74.17 respectively. The main component of the gateway node is a Raspberry Pi fitted with an Energenie ENER314-RT (receiver-transmitter) add-on board to allow the Pi to communicate with the smart plugs. The data collected by the gateway is stored locally in an SD card as well as sent to the heed-data server hosted in Coventry University.</p> <p>Post Deployment Challenges:</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Power outages:</strong> These are common in the camp. Data is lost during this time as the devices have no access to power.</p> <p>&middot;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <strong>Internet connectivity: </strong>The availability and reliability of Wi-Fi continue to be an issue for the transmission of data to heed-data server.</p>

Data from: Multi-modal ultra-high resolution structural 7-Tesla MRI data repository

Structural brain data is key for the understanding of brain function and networks, i.e., connectomics. Here we present data sets available from the 'atlasing of the basal ganglia (ATAG)' project, which provides ultra-high resolution 7Tesla (T) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans from young, middle-aged, and elderly participants. The ATAG data set includes whole-brain and reduced field-of-view MP2RAGE and T2*-weighted scans of the subcortex and brainstem with ultra-high resolution at a sub-millimeter scale. The data can be used to develop new algorithms that help building high-resolution atlases both relevant for the basic and clinical neurosciences. Importantly, the present data repository may also be used to inform the exact positioning of electrodes used for deep-brain-stimulation in patients with Parkinson's disease and neuropsychiatric diseases.

<p>The files reported here form the repository of results provided by a parametric study performed within the Deliverable 2.1 &quot;Geo-clusters and Building Archetypes&quot; of the European H2020 4RinEU Project (https://4rineu.eu/).</p> <p>The repository provides,&nbsp;for the four building typologies in the six geo-clusters considered in 4RinEU, results in the following KPIs thematic area: energy, comfort and environment; besides, economic issues and building&nbsp; site management are implemented in another repository included in Project Deliverable D4.2.</p> <p>The repository consists of four Excel files, one per each building typology: Apartment Block, Multi-Family House, Single Family House, Terraced House. DSpace-CRIS: How to Bring Repositories and CRIS/RIMS Together

<p>CRIS/RIMS (Current Research Information Systems / Research Information Management Systems) are becoming more and more relevant to monitor research activities and outputs, highlighting strengths and weaknesses of institutional performance and providing insight for budget allocation, collaboration and funding opportunities, etc.</p> <p>Proprietary CRIS are expensive and often compete with Institutional Repositories, draining resources and closing information behind barriers, contrary to the OAI principles.</p> <p>DSpace-CRIS is a free open-source extension of DSpace, a solution to oppose this trend and reassign the prominent role that Institutional Repositories need to play in the scholarly ecosystem. It extends the scope of the repository supporting a broader range of information typically managed in CRIS/RIMS. Originated in 2009 from a collaboration with the University of Hong Kong, the main characteristic of DSpace-CRIS is a flexible and extensible data model, which allows the creation and management of any kind of entities (such as researchers, organizations, projects, etc.) and the relations among those entities, besides bibliometric, collaboration networks, statistics.</p>
