DeepREM: Deep-Learning-Based Radio Environment Map Estimation from Sparse Measurements
<p><strong>DeepREM: Deep-Learning-Based Radio Environment Map Estimation from Sparse Measurements</strong></p> <p>DeepREM combines two deep-learning models (U-Net and CGAN) that estimate Radio Environment Maps (REMs) from sparse measurements. In this repository, we present the dataset and the interactive app developed to use the resulting models derived from the research. </p> <p><strong>Urban REMs dataset: </strong>We present a (REM) dataset of urban scenarios. Each map provides coverage information in areas from 2290 x 3670 m<sup>2</sup> to 3810 x 5160 m<sup>2</sup> with a resolution of 10 m. Coverage areas are sampled from Colombian cities (Armenia, Bogota, Cali, Ibague, Manizales, Medellin, and Pasto) and U.S. cities (Columbus and Washington). The simulations include topographic and building vector database information and Intelligent Ray-Tracing as a propagation model.</p> <p>In our <strong>second version</strong>, 400 new REMs were added to the dataset, including 4 new city areas with different topographic and building features (100 REMs for each area). The new cities are Barranquilla, Bucaramanga, Popayan, and North Pasto, all in Colombia. In addition, we also present an interactive application developed in the Streamlit framework to test CGAN and UNET performance in RSRP and BS coverage predictions either with REMs from our dataset or with completely new user-supplied REMs.The repository of the app can be downloaded at the following link: <a href="https://gitlab.com/andreajohanacv/deeprem">DeepREMapp</a></p>

Data from: Feral pigeon roosting and nesting occurrences in MRT viaduct expansion gaps and measured variables in Singapore
<p>The feral pigeon (<em>Columba livia</em>) is a globally commensal bird that can cause dis-amenities such as soiling and is a potential vector of various diseases. Aside to limiting food as a management strategy, reducing the availability of roosting and nesting sites can help regulate feral pigeon populations. Despite their prevalence, current knowledge of their roosting and nesting preferences is lacking.</p> <p>Feral pigeons commonly use railway viaduct expansion gaps in Singapore for roosting and nesting. These gaps provided an ideal experimental platform to examine feral pigeon roost and nest site selection while controlling for differing cavity sizes which can significantly affect their reproductive success and site selection decisions. We also conducted an in-situ experiment to test the efficacy of nest removal as a management option.</p> <p>Our nationwide surveys of 80.3km of railway viaducts and 6,048 gaps revealed that feral pigeon day roosting and nesting preferences are influenced by structural height and more importantly, their proximity to human food sources. There was a significantly higher probability of feral pigeon roosting in a gap if it had more pigeon feeding incidences in its vicinity and was higher. The probability of feral pigeon nesting in gap was higher if it was closer to a railway station, lower and further from water bodies.</p> <p>In our field experiment, we did not find any significant differences in the proportions of the abundances of feral pigeon to other urban commensal bird species at the gaps before and after nests were removed.</p> <p>Overall, our results suggest that a concerted effort to reduce anthropogenic food availability to feral pigeons is central in limiting their reproductive success and controlling their population.</p>

Measurements of Natural Radioactivity and Radiological Hazards Assessment in Some Commercial Ceramic Tiles used in Ethiopia.
<p>Ceramic tile is a widely used decorative building material. The natural radionuclideconcentration ( 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K) of ceramic wall and floor tiles typically used in Ethiopia was determined using an HPG detector. The study&#39;s goals are to determine the activity concentration of ceramic tiles as well as evaluate their health-related effects. The average activity concentrations of 226 Ra, 232 Th, and 40 K were 68.06 ± 2.07 Bq kg -1 , 131.19 ± 3.82 Bq kg -1 , and 802.04 ± 23.41 Bq kg -1 , respectively, which was found to be greater than the global mean. The calculated average value of Raeq was &lt; 370 Bq kg -1 , which is the limiting dose recommended for bulk medium. In addition, the related radiological hazard metrics, such as absorbed dose, annual effective dose equivalent, excess lifetime cancer risk (ELCR), internal (H in ) and external (H ex ) hazard indexes, gamma index (I γ ), and alpha index (I α ), were determined. The findings were contrasted with regional, global,and national legal frameworks as well as other similar studies&#39; findings. According to the results, using the examined ceramic tiles in buildings does not significantly increase radiation exposure.</p>

Absolute Gravity Measurements in the Geology Building of the University of Utah Salt Lake City
<p> This report contains the results of absolute gravity measurements carried out on the first floor of the geology building of the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City (USA) in September 2021. The measurements took place on a pre-existing benchmark that has been apparently occupied with an A-10 absolute gravimeter. No information or documentation about previous occupations are available.</p> <p>The absolute gravimeter FG5X#302-HC was operated by Olivier Francis from the University of Luxembourg.</p>

River monitoring, particulate Cs-137 measurements and rainfall monintoring of the Mano Dam catchment (Japan) from 2014 to 2019
<p>This dataset is composed of river monitoring, laboratory particulate Cs-137 measurements and rainfall monitoring used in the article: Vandromme, R., Hayashi, S.,Tsuji, H., Evrard, O., Grangeon, T., Landemaine, V., Laceby, J.P., Wakiyama, Y., Cerdan, O. The unprecedented soil decontamination program in Fukushima only reduced radioactive fluxes in rivers by 17% (PNAS, under review) </p> <p>River measurements were conducted by Hayashi S. and Tsuji H. <br> A hydrological station was installed immediately upstream of Mano Dam Lake (Lake Hayama) in June 2014. The water height in the river was measured using an AquiStar PT12 pressure/temperature sensor (INW, Kirkland, WA, USA) at 5-min intervals and then converted into flow rate data using gage curves. Water and SS samples were also collected from the river section using an ISCO 6712 automatic water sampler (Teledyne Technologies, Lincoln, NE, USA) at 1-h intervals during flood events. The SS concentration was determined in the laboratory by filtration using a Whatman GF/F filter with 0.7-µm pores (Cytiva, Tokyo, Japan), and these concentrations were then used to convert the turbidity logs measured by a DTS-12 digital turbidity sensor (FTS Inc., Victoria, BC CANADA) at 5-min intervals into SS logs. <br> This station was damaged by Typhoon Etau in September 2015. Following this damage, the data analysis and discovery of anomalies that persisted until the end of 2016 prompted us to omit the data acquired during this period. The hydrological station was subsequently moved a few hundred meters upstream in 2017. Water flows and sediment concentrations were subsequently acquired using the same systems described above at 10-min intervals until the end of 2019. </p> <p>River water samples were punctually collected to measure 137Cs concentration in Suspended Sediment (SS) (66 measurements during floods) from June 2014 to December 2019 (this chronicle ends in the middle of a flood).</p> <p>Station location before 2017 (coordinate system:WGS84) : lat 37.738391, long 140.803943<br> Station location after 2017 (coordinate system:WGS84) : lat 37.733191, long 140.807709</p> <p>Rainfall record was acquired by the Fukushima Prefecture (Maenori station, lat 37.73644, long 140.74233, coordinate system:WGS84) at 10-minute time steps.</p>
Absolute Gravity Measurements at the Alpine Research Centre in Obergurl (Austria) in September 2021
<p>This report contains the results of absolute gravity measurements carried out at Alpine Research Centre (University of Innsbruck) in Obergurgl. The measurements took place on the pier 0-173-02 (Figure 1) in September 2021.</p> <p>The absolute gravimeter FG5X#216 was operated by Olivier Francis and Raquel Navarro Buendía from the University of Luxembourg.</p> <p>The measurements are part of an on-going research collaboration between the Geophysics Laboratory of the University of Luxembourg and Christian Ullrich and Helmut Titz from the Bundesamt für Eich- und Vermessungswesen (BEV, Federal Office of Metrology and Surveying) in Vienna, Austria.</p> <p>It is the fourth time we measured at this site. Measurements were previously performed in June, September 2018 and 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we could not take measurements in 2020.</p>

<p>Companion data set to the paper "<strong>The Impact of the </strong><strong>Three-Dimensional Structure of a Subduction Zone on Time-dependent Crustal Deformation Measured by HR-GNSS.</strong>" The 'GNSS_Stations' folder contains the GNSS stations used for 2011 <strong>M</strong>7.9 Ibaraki, 2011 <strong>M</strong>7.4 Iwate, 2011A <strong>M</strong>7.3 Miyagi and 2003 <strong>M</strong>8.3 Tokachi 2003 earthquakes. The 'Mesh' folder contains the fault geometry mesh files for the Japan Trench, including the GMSH files. The '3D_velocity_model' folder contains the 3D velocity model for the combined West and East domains of the 3D Japan Integrated Velocity Structure Model in a rfile format and the corresponding ifile format. The 'Ruptures' folder contains the projected rupture models for each earthquake on the Japan Trench mesh and the corresponding 100 realizations of the mean rupture models generated using FakeQuakes.
