A slightly subapically flattened and widened (black branches) is a found in many groups within Cryptinae. It evolved a single time (black square) in Messatoporus, with a second modification to a strongly flattened antenna in the compressiornis group (white square and white branches). Triangles indicate clades with more than one terminal taxon; the black dumbell marks the "Ridges" group. The tree displayed in the figure was obtained from searches with K4.
