McMurdo Dry Valleys Glacier melt modeling: Relative Humidity 1996-2011
This is the data and metatada for modeled Relative Humidity - part of six modeled parameters that comprise the Taylor Valley Galcier Melt modeling Data contained and described in this document correspond to the physically-based surface energy balance model for the glaciers of Taylor Valley developed by the dataset owners. The spatial variability in ablation (ice melt and sublimation), runoff, and climate sensitivity of the glaciers was modeled using 16 years of meteorological and surface mass balance (the net mass gain or loss of ice on the surface of the glacier) observations collected in Taylor Valley (see figure).  An unusual aspect of the model is the inclusion of transmission of solar radiation into the ice and subsequent drainage of some subsurface melt .  Melt model was applied to the ablation zones of the glaciers of Taylor Valley, identified by colored areas. Mass balance stakes, meteorological stations, and stream gages shown for reference. This dataset package is part of a 6-pack multi-set, which you can find at http://mcmlter.org The input files, parameters and examples are found in this package: http://mcmlter.org/content/glacier-melt-modeling-inputs-and-example-m-fi... McMurdo Dry Valleys Adams Stream Gage Measurements
As part of the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) project in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica, a systematic sampling program has been undertaken to monitor the glacial meltwater streams in that region. These tables contain data pertaining to continuous monitored water quality and quantity parameters measured with automatic recording devices on streams in this region. Specifically, this metadata record describes the hydrology data set for the McMurdo Dry Valley's Adams stream measurements in the 1990-91 season. The Adams Stream data from 1990-91 was generated by the New Zealand ARP. Beginning January 2012, the MCMLTER established a new control downstream of the NZARP control. To date, we have not had enough field data to justify a rating curve to offer the 2012 onwards quality controlled hydrological data, but we expect to be able to offer these data by the 2016-17 season
McMurdo Dry Valleys Microbial mat biomass, isotopes, and nutrient ratios sampled over a longitudinal gradient of two McMurdo Dry Valley streams
We performed a field survey to assess changes in biomass, nutrient ratios, and isotopic signatures of three different microbial mat types in two glacial meltwater streams in the McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica. Samples were taken in January 2013 from pre-existing transects over Von Guerard Stream and the Relict Channel, and stretched from near the Von Guerard Glacier terminus to the stream outlets at Lake Fryxell. In addition to the three microbial mat types, which included Nostoc (black), Chlorophyte (green), and Oscillatorean (orange) mats, particulate organic matter (POM) was collected from Von Guerard Stream in January 2008 over a full diel cycle in order to determine the origin of material in transport by comparing its elemental and isotopic characteristics with stream mats.
