Kopaitic Island Chinstrap penguin GPS tracking data 2018-2019

These represent the speed filtered GPS datasets for individual Chinstrap penguins instrumented between November 2018 and February 2019 at Kopiaitic Island approximately 500m offshore from the Chilean Bernardo O'Higgins Antarctic Base on the western Antarctic Peninsula. They are stored as trip objects within standard .RData Workspaces #NOTE# the tags were set to record data at VERY fine temporal scales (every few seconds) thus the files are large and unwieldy in R . The objects are unprojected, but adhere to the CRS projection " +proj=lonlat +ellps=WGS84 +datum=WGS84" Individuals were also instrumented with dive loggers and accelerometer / magnetometer tags, and a subset were also instrumented with HD video cameras. These additional datasets will be published that are linked by unique animal #ID and deployment round number.

Deception Island Chinstrap penguin GPS tracking data 2018-2019 RAW

These represent the speed filtered GPS dataset and associated CRAWL models (R package crawl, v2.2.1) for 83 individual Chinstrap penguins instrumented between November 2018 and February 2019 at Deception Island at Bailey Head and Macaroni Point. Each individual penguin has a unique identifier (D_Rxx_Pxx) The data is tidy (one row = 1 observation = 1 location) and clean (no NAs; no duplicated lines, tracks cut off by deployment date + 24h and recovery date; points less than 2 min apart were removed for D_R4_P10). Each track is matched to the individual penguin metadata (ID, instrument type, deployment, recovery dates, original file, breeding status) The data is stored as a tibble in a R environment, contains 84,550 GPS locations and 24 columns. The GPS locations are available unprojected (lat lon " +proj=lonlat +ellps=WGS84 +datum=WGS84"; EPGS 4326) and projected in Polar stereographic (+proj=stere +lat_0=-90 +lat_ts=-71 +lon_0=0 +x_0=0 +y_0=0 +datum=WGS84 +units=m +no_defs; EPSG:3031). Also included are pdf images of individual tracks, and the shapefile (polygon) of Deception Island used as a mask.

GPS fixes for foraging Southern Giant Petrels (Macronectes giganteus) breeding in Nelson Island, Maritime Antarctic Peninsula (December 2019-January 2020)

In the ZIP file there are two files.

One is a .csv with GPS fixes processed using the adehabitatLT to identify events of low speed and high turn movements categorized as foraging. Points within a 250m radius from the breeding colony were excluded, and foraging trips were estimated based on the moment the animals crossed such a radius. Each foraging point was classified as being on land, within 5kms of coastline or on pelagic waters, and on different levels of Sea Ice Cover (from Bremen Sea Ice Remote Sensing data browser https://seaice.uni-bremen.de/databrowser/, Spreen, G., L. Kaleschke, and G.Heygster (2008), Sea ice remote sensing using AMSR-E 89 GHz channels J. Geophys. Res.,vol. 113, C02S03, doi:10.1029/2005JC003384).

Second file is a R Script with details of the methods for processing the data.

Two types of devices were used: Kite-M (Ecotone, NAV individuals) and Axy Trek Marine (Techno SmArt, HP individuals) configurated to collect points each 5 and 10 minutes, respectively.

Funded by Fondecyt Iniciación (111 801 75) and Programa Áreas Marinas Protegidas del Instituto Antártico Chileno (24 03 052).

GPS DIA proteomics serial dilution

Analysis of a species mixture sample using DIA proteomics. Samples are a serial dilution (n=6) of yeast peptides (with a dilution factor of 2) into a constant background matrix of mouse kidney peptides. 10 technical replicates of each samples and in total 60 injections.

The DIA data was searched with DIA-NN v1.8.1 using a conventional DDA based spectral library and library free (predicted spectral library). Included are the two DIA-NN results and search parameters.

GPS fixes for foraging Southern Giant Petrels (Macronectes giganteus) breeding in Nelson Island, Maritime Antarctic Peninsula, 2021 to 2023

This dataseta contain tracking data of breeding Southern Giant Petrels (Macronectes giganteus) collected from december to february in Harmony Point (Nelson Island, South Shetland Islands) in 2021/22 and 2022/23 breeding seasons. Cat-Log 2 (Perthold Engineering) and Sputnik (Sextant Technology) devices were used, consisting of 5-minute interval GPS fixes (a few animals had 10 minutes fixes, they are easy to spot by checking data). Capture and deployment followed protocols evaluated by ethical commitees of Universidad de Magallanes and Instituto Milénio of Biodiversity of Antarctic and Subantarctic Ecosystems (BASE), with environmental permits emmited by Instituto Antártico Chileno.

Two files are available: one on .csv format, and another one in .Rds that can be opened in R maintaining data carachteristics, for instance, date (TS column) is in a POSIXct timpestamp format, and it is maintained within the file. Each animal was ringed with stainless steel rings; ring numbers correspond to the BirdId column.

Production of this dataset was supported by the Instituto Antártico Chileno, Programa Áreas Marinas Protegidas (AMP 24 03 052), ANID – Programa Iniciativa Milenio – ICN2021_002 (BASE).

GPS Deduced ROTI Index, Standard Deviation of the Rate of Change of the Total Electron Content (TEC), World Maps and Movies, 15 min Data
The ROTI Index is the Standard Deviation of the Rate of Change of the Total Electron Content, TEC, during a 15 min Interval. The TEC Values are measured between a Global Positioning Satellite, GPS, and Ground Receiver Station.
