The EcoTrends project was established in 2004 by Dr. Debra Peters (Jornada Basin LTER, USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range) and Dr. Ariel Lugo (Luquillo LTER, USDA-FS Luquillo Experimental Forest) to support the collection and analysis of long-term ecological datasets. The project is a large synthesis effort focused on improving the accessibility and use of long-term data. At present, there are ~50 state and federally funded research sites that are participating and contributing to the EcoTrends project, including all 26 Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and sites funded by the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS), USDA Forest Service, US Department of Energy, US Geological Survey (USGS) and numerous universities. Data from the EcoTrends project are available through an exploratory web portal (http://www.ecotrends.info). This web portal enables the continuation of data compilation and accessibility by users through an interactive web application. Ongoing data compilation is updated through both manual and automatic processing as part of the LTER Provenance Aware Synthesis Tracking Architecture (PASTA). Total biomass of two native and one nonnative Eugenia congeners from growth chamber experiment with site, soil microbe, and temperature treatments to test biotic interaction effects of range expansion.
To assess the potential for invasive plants to shift ranges more readily than native plant species, a growth chamber experiment was set up to monitor changes in biomass under different site, temperature, and soil biota treatments. Total biomass (above and belowground) of three Eugenia congeners was assessed by site, soil microbe, and temperature treatments. Of the three congeneric shrub species, two are native to southern and central Florida (Eugenia foetida and E. axillaris,), and one is a non-native invasive from south America (E. uniflora). We measured total biomass for these plant species in growth chambers grown under live and sterile soils from two sites within their current range, and one site in their expected range, simulating current (2010) and predicted future (2050) spring growing season temperatures in the new range. The experiments took place from 2012 - 2013 in University of Central Florida growth chambers.
The Bear Brook Watershed in Maine, USA: Long-term soil temperature 2001 - 2016
This dataset includes 15-year soil temperature records for the Bear Brook Watershed in Maine (BBWM). Onset HOBO™️ data loggers were installed in the hardwood as well as softwood stands of the two watersheds, and air and soil temperatures were recorded from 2001 to 2016. Soil temperature data are available for the organic horizon and for 10 and 25 cm depths in the mineral horizon, at a three-hour timestep.

Treatments include nitrogen and phosphorus addition, warming with a simple greenhouse, warming with nitrogen and phosphorus addition, shading with shade cloth and shading with nitrogen and phosphorus. In 1990 data logger was installed in block 2 to measure soil temperatures and basic meteorological data. The plots are located on a hillside near Toolik Lake (68 38' N, 149 36'W). Sensors were placed in control, fertilized, greenhouse, greenhouse fertilized, shade house and shade house fertilized sites.
