Data for: Activation of bisulfite by LaFeO3 loaded on red mud for degradation of organic dye

<p>In this study, red mud was used as a support for LaFeO3 to prepare a synergistic catalyst (LaFeO3-RM) via ultrasonic-assisted sol-gel method for the enhanced removal of methylene blue (MB) assisted with bisulfite (BS) in an aqueous solution. The Characterization of SEM and BET indicated that comparing with the non-porous structure of bulk LaFeO3, LaFeO3-RM exhibited high surface area and obvious porous structure with a higher pore volume (i.e. 10 times). XRD, XPS and FTIR revealed that in addition to dispersing LaFeO3 particles, the support of porous RM also increased Fe oxidation activity, oxygen-containing functional groups and chemically adsorbed oxygen (from 44.3% to 90.3%) of LaFeO3-RM which enhanced the catalytic performance in structure and chemical composition. MB was removed through the synergistic effect of adsorption and catalysis with MB molecule was first absorbed on the surface and then degraded. The pseudo-first-order kinetic constant of LaFeO3-RM was 6 times than that of LaFeO3. Fe(III) in LaFeO3-RM played a key role in the activation of BS to produce SO4·- by the redox cycle of Fe(III)/Fe(II). With the application of LaFeO3-RM as a promising low-cost synergistic catalyst for the activation of BS under neutral condition, this work provides a new approach of using porous industrial waste to improve the catalytic performance of LaFeO3.</p>

Fine-scale Quantification of Absorbed Photosynthetically Active Radiation (APAR) in Plantation Forests with 3D Radiative Transfer Modeling and LiDAR Data

<p>In recent years, LiDAR technology has gained widespread attention for its ability to provide precise 3D vertical structural data for various objects, particularly forests. In our dataset, we utilized LiDAR data to reconstruct intricately detailed three-dimensional representations of specific larch forest landscapes. These detailed forest structural models enable us to drive three-dimensional radiative transfer models, analyze the radiation budget of the forest canopy, and gain valuable insights into fine-scale forest management strategies.</p> <p>This is the research work we conducted by combining the aforementioned 3D forest scenes with the 3D RTM LESS. Despite their significance, the formation mechanisms underlying these seamount ecological oases remain uncertain. To shed light on this phenomenon, this study conducted interdisciplinary <em>in-situ</em> observations focusing on a shallow seamount in the oligotrophic ocean. In this dataset, we report high-resolution hydrographic and biochemical observational data from both sectional observations and time-series stations observations.</p>

Data for: Multimodal convergence in the pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus: motor, sensory, and theta-frequency inputs influence the activity of single neurons

<p>The pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus of the brainstem (PPTg) has extensive interconnections and neuronal-behavioural correlates. It is implicated in movement control and sensorimotor integration. We investigated whether single neuron activity in freely moving rats is correlated with components of skilled forelimb movement and whether individual neurons respond to both motor and sensory events. We found that individual PPTg neurons showed changes in firing rate at different times during the reach. This type of temporally specific modulation is like activity seen elsewhere in voluntary movement control circuits, such as the motor cortex, and suggests that PPTg neural activity is related to different specific events occurring during the reach. In particular, many neuronal modulations were time-locked to the end of the extension phase of the reach, when fine distal movements related to food grasping occur, indicating strong engagement of PPTg in this phase of skilled individual forelimb movements. In addition, some neurons showed brief periods of apparent oscillatory firing in the theta range at specific phases of the reach-to-grasp movement. When movement-related neurons were tested with tone stimuli, many also responded to this auditory input, allowing for sensorimotor integration at the cellular level. Together, these data extend the concept of the PPTg as an integrative structure in the generation of complex movements, by showing that this function extends to the highly coordinated control of the forelimb during skilled reach to grasp movement and that sensory and motor-related information converges on a single neuron, allowing for direct integration at the cellular level.</p>

Data from: Scaling of leaf area with biomass in trees reconsidered: Constant metabolically active sapwood volume per unit leaf area with height growth

<p>Hypoallometric (slope&lt;1) scaling between metabolic rate and body mass is often regarded as near-universal across organisms. However, there are compelling reasons to question hypoallometric scaling in woody plants, where metabolic rate=leaf area. This leaf area must provide carbon to the metabolically active sapwood volume (VMASW). Within populations of a species, variants in which VMASW increases per unit leaf area with height growth (e.g. ⅔ or ¾ scaling) would have proportionally less carbon for growth and reproduction as they grow taller. Therefore, selection should favor individuals in which, as they grow taller, leaf area scales isometrically with shoot VMASW (slope=1). Using tetrazolium staining, we measured total VMASW and total leaf area (LAtot) across 22 individuals of Ricinus communis and confirmed that leaf area scales isometrically with VMASW, and that VMASW is much smaller than total sapwood volume. With the potential of the LAtot-VMASW relationship to shape factors as diverse as the crown area-stem diameter relationship, conduit diameter scaling, reproductive output, and drought-induced mortality, our work suggests that the notion that sapwood increases per unit leaf area with height growth requires revision.</p>

Data from: Steatotic liver disease induced by TCPOBOP-activated hepatic constitutive androstane receptor: Primary and secondary gene responses with links to disease progression

<p>Constitutive Androstane Receptor (CAR, <em>Nr1i3</em>), a liver nuclear receptor and xenobiotic sensor, induces drug, steroid and lipid metabolizing enzymes, stimulates liver hypertrophy and hyperplasia, and ultimately, hepatocellular carcinogenesis. The mechanisms linking early CAR responses to later disease development are poorly understood. Here we show that exposure of CD-1 mice to TCPOBOP, a halogenated xenochemical and selective CAR agonist ligand, induces pericentral steatosis marked by hepatic accumulation of cholesterol and neutral lipid, and elevated circulating alanine aminotransferase, indicating hepatocyte damage. TCPOBOP-induced steatosis was weaker in the pericentral region but stronger in the periportal region in females compared to males. Early (1-day) TCPOBOP transcriptional responses were enriched for CAR-bound primary response genes, and for lipogenesis and xenobiotic metabolism and oxidative stress protection pathways; late (2-wk) TCPOBOP responses included many CAR binding-independent secondary response genes, with enrichment for macrophage activation, immune response and cytokine and reactive oxygen species production. Late upstream regulators specific to TCPOBOP-exposed male liver were linked to pro-inflammatory responses and hepatocellular carcinoma progression. TCPOBOP administered weekly to male mice using a high corn oil vehicle activated carbohydrate-responsive transcription factor (MLXIPL)-regulated target genes, dysregulated mitochondrial respiratory and translation regulatory pathways, and induced more advanced liver pathology. Overall, TCPOBOP exposure recapitulates histological and gene expression changes characteristic of emerging steatotic liver disease, including secondary gene responses in liver non-parenchymal cells indicative of transition to a more advanced disease state. Upstream regulators of both the early and late TCPOBOP response genes include novel biomarkers for foreign chemical-induced metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.</p>

Data for: Post-translational regulation of photosynthetic activity via the TOR kinase in plants

<p>Chloroplasts are the powerhouse of the plant cell, and their activity must be matched to plant growth to avoid photo-oxidative damage. We have identified a post-translational mechanism linking the eukaryotic Target of Rapamycin (TOR) kinase that promotes growth and the guanosine tetraphosphate (ppGpp) signaling pathway of prokaryotic origins that regulates chloroplast activity, and photosynthesis in particular. We find that RelA SpoT Homologue 3 (RSH3), a nuclear-encoded enzyme responsible for ppGpp biosynthesis, interacts directly with the TOR complex via a plant-specific N-terminal region which is phosphorylated in a TOR-dependent manner. Downregulating TOR activity causes a rapid increase in ppGpp synthesis in RSH3 overexpressors and reduces photosynthetic capacity in an RSH-dependent manner in wild-type plants. The TOR-RSH3 signaling axis therefore regulates the equilibrium between chloroplast activity and plant growth, setting a precedent for the regulation of organellar function by TOR.</p>

These systems are fluid counterparts of previously investigated extremely persistent systems, which in the large persistence time limit relax only on the time scale of τ<sub>p</sub>. We find that many dynamic properties of the systems we study, such as the mean-squared velocity, the self-intermediate scattering function, and the shear-stress correlation function, become τ<sub>p</sub>-independent in the large persistence time limit. In addition, the large τ<sub>p</sub> limits of many dynamic properties, such as the mean-square velocity and the relaxation times of the scattering function, and the shear-stress correlation function, depend on f as power laws with non-trivial exponents. Data from: Structural basis for activation and allosteric modulation of full-length calcium-sensing receptor

<p>Calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) is a class C G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that plays an important role in calcium homeostasis and parathyroid hormone secretion. Here, we present multiple cryo-electron microscopy structures of full-length CaSR in distinct ligand-bound states. Ligands (Ca<sup>2+</sup> and l-tryptophan) bind to the extracellular domain of CaSR and induce large-scale conformational changes, leading to the closure of two heptahelical transmembrane domains (7TMDs) for activation. The positive modulator (evocalcet) and the negative allosteric modulator (NPS-2143) occupy the similar binding pocket in 7TMD. The binding of NPS-2143 causes a considerable rearrangement of two 7TMDs, forming an inactivated TM6/TM6 interface. Moreover, a total of 305 disease-causing missense mutations of CaSR have been mapped to the structure in the active state, creating hotspot maps of five clinical endocrine disorders. Our results provide a structural framework for understanding the activation, allosteric modulation mechanism, and disease therapy for class C GPCRs.</p>

Human activities data in Wolong National Nature Reserve

<p>Wolong National Nature Reserve (hereafter Wolong) is an internationally renowned giant panda (<em>Ailuropoda melanoleuca</em>) reserve. Meanwhile, the reserve is also a popular tourist destination in Giant Panda National Park. It encompasses two major towns, Wolong and Gengda, home to approximately 5,000 residents. Agriculture, tourist economy, and livestock grazing remain important income sources for the residents. Here, we combine ongoing survey data on human activity areas in Wolong and make two layers of major human activities in Wolong. The two datasets are human pressure and livestock grazing. Among them, the human pressure layer combines roads and settlement data. We use this dataset to reflect the extent of human activities in Wolong and as an important indicator to assess its interference with wildlife.</p>

Data from: Transcriptional profiling of lung macrophages following ozone exposure in mice identifies signaling pathways regulating immunometabolic activation

<p>Macrophages play a key role in ozone-induced lung injury by regulating both the initiation and resolution of inflammation. These distinct activities are mediated by pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory/pro-resolution macrophages which sequentially accumulate in injured tissues. Macrophage activation is dependent, in part, on intracellular metabolism. Herein, we used RNA-sequencing (seq) to identify signaling pathways regulating macrophage immunometabolic activity following exposure of mice to ozone (0.8 ppm, 3 hr) or air control. Analysis of lung macrophages using an Agilent Seahorse showed that inhalation of ozone increased macrophage glycolytic activity and oxidative phosphorylation at 24 and 72 hr post exposure. An increase in the percentage of macrophages in the S phase of the cell cycle was observed 24 hr post ozone. RNA-seq revealed significant enrichment of pathways involved in innate immune signaling and cytokine production among differentially expressed genes at both 24 and 72 hr after ozone, while pathways involved in cell cycle regulation were upregulated at 24 hr and intracellular metabolism at 72 hr. An interaction network analysis identified tumor suppressor 53 (TP53), E2F family of transcription factors (E2Fs), Cyclin Dependent Kinase Inhibitor 1A (CDKN1a/p21), and Cyclin D1 (CCND1) as upstream regulators of cell cycle pathways at 24 hr and TP53, nuclear receptor subfamily 4 group a member 1 (NR4A1/Nur77), and estrogen receptor alpha (ESR1/ERα) as central upstream regulators of mitochondrial respiration pathways at 72 hr. These results highlight the complex interaction between cell cycle, intracellular metabolism, and macrophage activation which may be important in the initiation and resolution of inflammation following ozone exposure.</p>
