Single-density photoionization models are not complex enough to describe AGN

<p>Nebulae photoionized by Active Galactic Nuclei are complex structures, exhibiting layers with different physical properties. Therefore, it is not possible to describe such objects using photoionization models of a single density, as shown in this work by the comparison of models in the BPT diagnostic diagrams.</p>

Multi-wavelength AGN Properties of Post-Merger Galaxies

<p>It&rsquo;s well studied that galaxy mergers can have a profound impact on triggering both star formation and an Active Galactic Nucleus (AGN). The AGN is expected to quench star formation through &ldquo;feedback&rdquo; processes, by heating or expelling gas out of the galaxy, leaving behind a merger remnant. Unfortunately, confirming that mergers trigger AGN is observationally challenging, because AGN in different merger stages can have discrepant luminosities and lifetimes. In addition, a multi-wavelength approach is required to provide a complete census of AGN. Here I present results based on a volume limited (0.02&lt;z&lt;0.06, 10.5&lt;logM&lt;12.0), visually identified sample of post-merger galaxies from SDSS-DR14. I will describe the multi-wavelength AGN demographics of this sample using Chandra, XMM X-ray imaging, optical BPT diagnostics based on SDSS single-fiber spectra, WISE infrared color and VLA FIRST radio images. I will discuss plans to expand our analysis of the merger-AGN connection to post merger galaxies at higher redshift using the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope and other multi-wavelength data.</p>

Demographics of Galaxies in the Nearby Universe: A case study with AGN and post-mergers

<p>Here I present a volume limited catalog of ~113,600 visually classified galaxies from SDSS and the NOAO legacy survey. The classifications include identifications of bars, rings, spiral arms, tidal tails, etc.&nbsp; I compare my classifications to those from other crowd sourced surveys and machine learning based catalogs to verify classification accuracy.&nbsp; Using this catalog, I will show results on the systematics which affect quantitative/ML classifications and implications for the Nancy Grace Roman space telescope galaxy surveys. Time permitting I will discuss (a) bar fractions in the local Universe and role of close pair interactions in triggering bars&nbsp; (b) the role of mergers in triggering AGN and the frequency of dual AGN in the local Universe.</p>

AGN and stellar spectra used to produce model molecular emission lines

<p><span>Aiming to investigate the effects of stellar and AGN radiation fields to the excitation of molecular gas, we present an analysis of model CO, H</span><span>2O, and OH+ emission lines produced with the application of these radiation fields using MOLPOP-CEP. We find that the ratios of CO(Jupp) = 11, 12, 13, 14, 15) to CO(Jupp) = 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) obtained with the application of AGN radiation are larger than the ones produced by applying stellar radiation. Similarly, some H2O and </span><span>OH+ ratios obtained with AGN radiation are found to be higher than the corresponding ratios produced by applying stellar radiation field, making the line ratios a diagnostic tool to disentangle AGN from star formation. In all cases, we find that the ratios vary as a function of the molecular gas density and the scale of the radiation field, the larger the scale of the radiation field is the stronger the excitation of the molecular transitions. Also, the effect of the radiation fields is found to be dependent on the molecular gas density, indicating that the effect of the radiation fields is regulated by the physical properties that are intrinsic to the molecular gas. Thus, due to the dependency of the line ratios on the scale of the radiation fields and the effect of the radiation fields on the molecular gas density, we conclude that it is not sufficient to use a single line ratio to claim the presence of AGN contribution to the molecular gas excitation.</span></p>

The miniJPAS Survey: The Radial Distribution of Star Formation Rate in Faint X-ray AGN

<p>Figures show the AGN host galaxies accompanied by their observed J-spectra within their Kron radii and the fitted spectrum with \texttt{CIGALE} to determine their physical properties. We note that \texttt{CIGALE} does not fit AGN emission for 1 source with miniJPAS object ID 2241-18160. This object fell in the composite area in the BPT diagram, and in the LINER area in the WHAN diagram. This could represent a case where the AGN is obscured due to dust and \texttt{CIGALE} fails to fit optical AGN emission for this case. This further emphasizes the importance of X-ray emission to identify AGN systems that are optically obscured and are seen as normal galaxies without X-ray detections. We report that the inclusion or emission of this object from our AGN sample does not produce any differences in the results obtained in this paper.</p>
