Smartcow EU project database on feed efficiency in beef cattle and analysis of natural 15N abundance and plasma urea concentration
<p>This is a database built in the frame of the Smartcow H2020 Eu project (N°730924) and gathering individual raw data for animal performances obtained in thirteen beef cattle trials conducted in France, UK and Switzerland as well as animal values for two biomakers of feed efficiency : the natural 15N abundance in animal proteins (plasma or muscle) and plasma urea concentration. </p>

(Output Database for Selected Wood Parts and Timber Components: Moisture Contents and Temperatures, Moisture Induced Strains And Stresses And Crack Risk). The data include the material properties for green wood and selected wooden components, as well as the plans to collect environmental conditions and loads to be considered in the analyses for prediction of the crack risk of timber components under moisture variations. In additions, new results of scratch tests of wood and wooden components, supported by computed tomography (CT) investigations, are collected to define a model for shear failure risk to be added to the HTM computational models.</p> <p>In D2.1, scratch tests carried out at VTT are described and their results are collected to provide information about the moisture effects of wood logs during cutting operations in sawmills, as well as on relevant fracture and shear properties for wooden components in sawing centres before using them to produce wooden elements of modular buildings in the production. <p>During the EU COST Action IS1402 video presentations, the information on ageism in medication use, ageist approaches at regulatory level, at the level of service provision and in rationality of drug prescribing in older adults have been emphasized, as well as main aims of FIP7 project in the EUROAGEISM H2020 (FIP project is entitled "Inappropriate prescribing and availability of medication safety and medication management services in older patients in Europe and other countries"). Video presentation is in national language- Czech. </p>

Results of the previous EU ADHOC and SHELTER projects are mentioned, as well as aims and objectives of newly started the EUROAGEISM H2020 project, mainly project of ESR7 on inappropriate medication prescribing in older adults and aspects of ageism. RESCCUE (RESilience to cope with Climate Change in Urban arEas) EU Project - WP1 Data
<p>These files contain the data generated for the Work Package 1 of the RESCCUE project. RESCCUE project was devised to analyse future urban impacts due to climate change so as to improve resilience of three target cities: Barcelona, Bristol and Lisbon. To achieve that, future climate projections and changes in extreme events were obtained at a local scale for the Work Package 1. Several past studies were analysed to identify all the climate variables and extreme events that could affect urban areas, e.g. heavy rainfall, heat waves and storm surge. All available meteorological observations in the considered areas were collected and filtered through several tests (general consistency, outliers and inhomogeneities) in order to handle datasets long enough and of good quality. As a way to obtain the best input possible, every valid station was extended in time by downscaling process with the ERA-Interim reanalysis.</p> <p>Future climate projections were obtained for ten different global climate models considering two of the main Representative Concentration Pathways (RCP4.5 and RCP8.5) established in the last IPCC report. These models were downscaled through a sophisticated statistical methods (analogous stratification and transfer functions among others) to project local climate according to the identified climate drivers: temperature, precipitation, wind, relative humidity, sea level pressure, potential evapotranspiration, snowfall, wave height and sea level; and for both climate and decadal timescales. Already downscaled models were first validated for the method and afterwards verified, obtaining small errors and good coherent simulations.</p> <p>Extreme events of the main climate drivers were obtained and analysed for both historical and future scenarios through the combination of several statistical methods as well as through the analysis of several teleconnectionpatterns. Derived events such as heat waves, drought, snowstorms, storm surges, wave height among others were afterwards inferred for climate, decadal and seasonal scale.</p> <p><strong>FILES</strong></p> <p>The data generated have been grouped into three different files, one for each studied area: the hydrological basin of the rivers Ter and Llobregat (the area that influences Barcelona), the geographical area between England and South Wales (the area that influences Bristol) and the Lisbon area.</p> <p>Each of the files contains a self-explanatory file detailing the structure of the information contained and the way in which it is provided.</p> <p><strong>ABOUT THE RESCCUE PROJECT</strong></p> <p>The RESCCUE project, Resilience to cope with Climate Change in Urban Areas, –a multisectorial approach focusing on water– aims to provide practical and innovative models and tools to end-users facing climate change challenges to build more resilient cities.</p> <p>The project provides tools to assess urban resilience from a multisectorial approach, for current and future climate scenarios and including multiple hazards. <p>The FreeMe project aims to eliminate the use of hexavalent chromium (Cr<sup>6+</sup>) and palladium (Pd) from the Plating on Plastics (PoP) process, based on REACH compliant chemicals, avoiding toxic compounds and ensuring long-term sustainability. <span>This video is an early demonstration of the spray apparatus for the application of resins in substrates in the context of the Plating on Plastics (PoP) process of the FreeMe Project.</span></p>

EU project OCEAN:ICE Deliverable: D1.4 Gridded European circumpolar sea ice production fluxes
<p>This deliverable is a new dataset of sea ice production (SIP) in Antarctic coastal polynyas, critical regions for sea ice formation and dense water formation. Using Earth Observation data and atmospheric reanalysis, we use a heat budget method to estimate the SIP. We use sea ice concentration (SIC) from passive microwave sensors and ECMWF ERA5 reanalysis for near-surface wind speed and surface air temperature. Comparison against previous literature shows broad consistency in spatial patterns and magnitude of ice production, with notable variations across larger polynyas. Despite simplifications and thereby increased uncertainties in the absolute ice production values, the data set provides valuable insights into the dynamics and variability of Antarctic polynya SIP for the period 1992-2023.</p>
Arctic PASSION Online Seminar on "Visualising permafrost landscape change: A new service from the EU Arctic PASSION project"
<p><strong>16 May 2024 at 11 AM GMT</strong></p> <p><strong></strong>In this online seminar, Arctic PASSION is introducing its pan-Arctic requirements-driven Permafrost Service. The Permafrost Service is based on remote sensing analyses, and detection and mapping of permafrost disturbances at high spatial resolution across large regions. The data helps to quantify landscape change, hydrological dynamics and permafrost vulnerability. In order to make the scientific findings easily accessible, we designed a tailored web-based portal specifically targeting non-scientific user communities, stakeholders and rightsholders.
