East-African Social Sciences and Humanities Journals active in 2008-2009
<p>Research Data of „East-African Social Sciences and Humanities Publishing: A Handmade Bibliometrics Approach“, Proceedings of the 21st International Conference on Science and Technology Indicators, València (Spain), September 14-16, 2016.</p> <p>Corrected second version: due to an error, the journal “Chemchemi” was not included in “1 final list merged” and “7 ceased-established”. However, this does not change the conclusions drawn in the paper.</p> <p>Abstract of the paper: For Eastern Africa, very little information about the SSH knowledge production can be found from a European perspective. Adequate indicators like information-rich bibliographic databases that cover East-Africa-based journals and book publishers are lacking. This research in progress explores their indexing situation in detail, their development, which is closely connected to political history, their (non-)usage, and affiliations as well as career-stages of their authors. Furthermore, it also pays attention to East-Africa-based SSH researchers who use other publication venues. Any bibliometric analysis in this field needs to rely on manual data collection, otherwise it would be heavily biased. This study lays out the foundation for citation analyses, qualitative research on the publications' content and the self-description of East-African scholars against the background of an academic environment that is often described as “international”.</p>

<p>This is an anonymized dataset containing data on international collaboration in the social sciences and humanities (SSH) in Flanders, Belgium. It is based on all peer-reviewed publications in <a href="https://www.ecoom.be/en/data-collections/vabb-shw">VABB-SHW</a>, regardless of their indexation in WoS or other databases.</p> <p>The dataset accompanies the conference paper 'How international is co-authorship outside of Web of Science? The case of social sciences and humanities in Flanders, Belgium,' which was submitted to <a href="https://cns-iu.github.io/workshops/2023-07-02_issi/index.html">ISSI 2023</a>.</p>
Data Science in Arts and Humanities. What is useful data?
<p>This recording took place during the DHCH2023 event in Rome on June 5-7 in 2023.</p> <p>This event focuses on data science in the arts and the humanities. Flagship projects about text recognition, accessibility and digital sustainability of cultural heritage will be presented, and state-of-the-art methods in regard to 3D digitization will be introduced. The inalienable benefits of this research are explored, and the potential of these interventions is examined. And what about common criticism? </p> <p>The DHCH initiative provides a network to discuss the rich aspects of Digital Humanities, open up the perspective to the wide horizon of digital practices and support digital humanities approaches in arts, humanities and cultural heritage. The interdisciplinary digital humanities event DHCH@ISR brings together international experts, doctoral students, advanced researchers, and cultural heritage institutions. The project is a large synthesis effort focused on improving the accessibility and use of long-term data. At present, there are ~50 state and federally funded research sites that are participating and contributing to the EcoTrends project, including all 26 Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and sites funded by the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS), USDA Forest Service, US Department of Energy, US Geological Survey (USGS) and numerous universities. Data from the EcoTrends project are available through an exploratory web portal (http://www.ecotrends.info). This web portal enables the continuation of data compilation and accessibility by users through an interactive web application. Ongoing data compilation is updated through both manual and automatic processing as part of the LTER Provenance Aware Synthesis Tracking Architecture (PASTA).
