Factors influencing transferability in species distribution models
<p>Species distribution models (SDMs) provide insights into species' ecology and distributions and are frequently used to guide conservation priorities. However, many uses of SDMs require model transferability, which refers to the degree to which a model built in one place or time can successfully predict distributions in a different place or time. If a species' model has high spatial transferability, the relationship between abundance and predictor variables should be consistent across a geographical distribution. We used Breeding Bird Surveys, climate and remote sensing data, and a novel method for quantifying model transferability to test whether SDMs can be transferred across the geographic ranges of 129 species of North American birds. We also assessed whether species' traits are correlated with model transferability. We expected that prediction accuracy between modeled regions should decrease with 1) geographical distance, 2) degree of extrapolation, and 3) were affected by a 'core-boundary' effect, which assesses distances to the boundary of a distribution. Our results suggest that very few species have a high model transferability index (<em>MTI</em>). Species with large distributions, with distributions located in areas with low topographic relief, and with short lifespans are more likely to exhibit low transferability. Transferability between modeled regions also decreased with geographical distance and degree of extrapolation. We expect that low transferability in SDMs potentially resulted from both ecological non-stationarity (i.e., biological differences within a species across its range) and over-extrapolation. Accounting for non-stationarity and extrapolation should substantially increase prediction success of species distribution models, therefore enhancing the success of conservation efforts.</p>
The impact of stress and its influencing factors among dentists during the COVID-19 pandemic in Kingdom of Bahrain
<p><strong><span>Background:</span></strong><span> It is well known that all medical professions are linked to work stress, including dentistry, which is seen as facing higher risk due to the nature of the job, especially the working conditions. </span></p> <p><span><strong>Objective:</strong> This study aimed to assess the impact of stress and its influencing factors among dentists during the COVID-19 pandemic in Bahrain.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Methods</span></strong><span><strong>:</strong> A cross-sectional survey was designed to assess the impact of stress and its influencing factors among Bahraini dentists. A total of 306 participants were randomly selected from 1489 registered professionals in the NHRA (National Health Regulatory Authority Bahrain). In addition, an online survey was used to minimise face-to-face communication as well as to accommodate dental practitioners who work in private and government hospitals in Bahrain and a convenient sample of dentists was requested to participate in this study.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Results</span></strong><span><strong>:</strong> Out of 306 participants invited in the survey, only 253 responded, which was adequate for the study. Overall, the participants have reported moderate stress. All the variables of the study showed different effects, but the highest stressor with a strong correlation was "fear of social isolation "(FI) at the significance level of 0.01 (β= 0.393, t= 5.090, p < 0.05= (0.000) with </span> <span>= 0.201 above 0.15 and less than 0.35 which was considered as a moderate effect size approximately (20%), which strongly supported the hypothesis that researchers have proposed. Overall, the total effect for all stressors were (30 %) which was considered as a moderate effect size. All hypotheses were supported except BCP -> OUTCOME due to insufficient evidence at the insignificant level of 0.01 (β= -0.184, t=1.560, p > 0.05 = (0.060). whereas the R² values of independent variables were above 95% for the variance of dentists' outcome, which is considered an excellent fit to the data as evidenced by the squared multiple correlations (</span> <span>) values for the dependent variables.</span></p> <p><span><strong>Conclusions:</strong> </span><span>The study is unique based on its findings that reveal the impact of stress among dentists. Moreover, the results of this study may serve as guidance for future monitoring of dental practitioners' burnout, anxiety, and workload. Furthermore, it may provide supports in different aspects.</span></p>
Plant‐eating carnivores: Multispecies analysis on factors influencing the frequency of plant occurrence in obligate carnivores
<p>Plant-eating behavior is one of the greatest mysteries in obligate carnivores. Despite unsuitable morphological and physiological traits for plant consumption, the presence of plants in scat or stomach contents has been reported in various carnivorous species. However, researchers' interpretations of this subject are varied, and knowledge about it is scarce, without any multispecies studies. This study assessed the extent of variation in the frequency of plant occurrence in scat and stomach contents, as well as its relationship with various factors in 24 felid species using data from 213 published articles. Since the frequency of plant occurrence has not always been reported, we created two-part models and estimated parameters in a Bayesian framework. We found a significant negative relationship between the frequency of plant occurrence and body mass. This may be because plant-eating behavior reduces the energy loss caused by parasites and increases the efficiency of energy intake, which has a greater importance in smaller animals that have relatively high metabolic rates. This exploratory study highlights the importance of considering plant consumption in dietary studies on carnivorous species to understand the adaptive significance of this behavior and the relationship between obligate carnivores and plants.</p>

Economic Factors Influencing the Empowerment of Peruvian Women
<p><strong><span>Objective:</span></strong><span> To determine whether economic factors are crucial in empowering women, guiding them towards growth and development opportunities, achieving empowerment, and contributing to two sustainable development goals of the 2030 development agenda: ending poverty and achieving gender equality.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Methodology:</span></strong><span> The research was foundational, with a phenomenological and hermeneutic design. The applied technique was in-depth interviews with 12 women who had started a business within the last five years in a region of Peru.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Results:</span></strong><span> It is evident that economic factors are decisive in business experiences and decisions, highlighting the necessity of having contingency funds to prevent operational impacts. Through entrepreneurship, women achieved economic independence, enabling them to support their families and impacting their empowerment. It concludes that to promote economic opportunity equality, addressing financing needs, encouraging economic independence, strengthening family empowerment, improving customer management, and facilitating access to government funds are essential.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Conclusions:</span></strong><span> The narrative of the participants provides a solid foundation for designing specific policies and support programs that boost the economic empowerment of women entrepreneurs and encourage their active participation in the business sphere</span><span>.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Palabras clave:</span></strong><span> Women's Empowerment; Financial Capacity; Legal Framework; Economic Independence; Potential Customers; Access to Financing.</span></p>
