Master database for publication "Stakeholder engagement and knowledge co-production for better watershed management with the Freshwater Health Index"
<p> </p> <p>The spreadsheet is the master database used for the research with the title of "Stakeholder engagement and knowledge co-production for better watershed management with the Freshwater Health Index" to be published on <em>Current Research in Environmental Sustainability</em> in late 2022.</p> <p>The data include narratives for six principles on stakeholder engagement and knowledge co-production. These principles were derived by combining Talley et al’s five principles for effective stakeholder engagement (Talley et al. 2016) with Norström et al’s four principles for knowledge co-production (Norström et al. 2020). The six principles were aligned with the components of the freshwater health index (FHI) framework. Project leaders from nine FHI case studies completed a text table based on the description of the six principles and their FHI factors. This process generated the present master qualitative database with narrative responses. </p> <p>The socio-ecological context for each case study is provided for contextualization.</p>

Novel Science communication – how to build public health knowledge across the social gradient. The Healthy Choices Project (WP5).
<p>Everyday life consists of hundreds of choices of which many may have an impact on our health. The citizens of the modern Nordic welfare states are in general well-educated and thus can be assumed to know what is best for them. Despite this our health care systems face an increasing burden of lifestyle related diseases and there is a difference across the social gradient. Here building public health knowledge through communication is key. The reason for people making unhealthy choices are many and can be that; they do not know what is good for them (lack information) or do not understand (lack understanding) or do not care (carelessness). However it seems likely that it is more complex than that. Maybe they do not receive the information, because gets conveyed through channels that they do not consult or maybe the format of the message does not ‘click’? Could it be, that ‘one media message or channel does not fit all’? </p> <p>Over the last decades there has been an increased focus from both scientists themselves and politicians to scientific and practical field of ‘science communication’. Consequently, various advanced modes of communicating e.g. health issues to the general populations have been developed, and today scholars of Mass Media term this development the ‘scientification’ of media. Furthermore, media and information availability has exploded since the emergence of the Internet in the early 1990s. Research has indicated that social gradient also is a factor affecting a person’s media consumption and habit. </p> <p>In the healthy choices project we aim through novel methods to learn more about these challenges and at the develop new methods of conveying public health knowledge to enable people to make healthier choices across the social gradient. We have so far built a framework for this including a science group, consisting of public health experts, and a communication group consisting of experienced science communicators. The Science group is consulted about risk factors and health endpoints and what to prioritize. Two PhD students will be involved in; 1) assessing media consumption and usage related to health issues across social classes (Low social gradient versus high social gradient) and across the generational gap (young and elderly) and 2) develop and test various media message formats for target groups including considerations of the social gradient. This project will provide new understanding on how to communicate public health messages and reduce social inequalities in health.</p> <p> </p>

Knowledge of Primary Health Care Nurses at Selected Public Institutions Regarding Prescription of Antihypertensive Drugs
<p>Hypertension has been among the most studied topics of the previous century and has been one of the most significant comorbidities contributing to the development of stroke, myocardial infarction, heart failure, and renal failure. In the mist of that, there is limited data on nurses’ knowledge regarding prescription of antihypertensive drugs in Lesotho. The aim of this study was to assess primary health care nurses’ knowledge regarding prescription of antihypertensive drugs. Quantitative descriptive cross-sectional study of primary health care nurses recruited by purposive sampling was conducted. An electronic questionnaire was used to collect data and data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Most participants were females and had attained diploma in general nursing and midwifery. A proportion of 26% fully knew the steps to be followed for diagnosing hypertension and only 23% felt highly confident to initiate patients on antihypertensive drugs. Moreover, knowledge on mechanism of action of antihypertensive drugs was poor and less than half only knew antihypertensive drug of choice when there is comorbidity. The study identified that nurses have knowledge deficit regarding prescription of antihypertensive drugs. There is a need for interventions to improve nurses’ knowledge so as to curb hypertension burden. </p>

<p><strong>Background</strong></p> <p>Preventive and health-promoting policies can guide (place and space-specific) factors influencing human health, such as the physical and social environment. Required is data that can lead to a more nuanced decision-making process and identify both, existing and future challenges. Along with the rise of new technologies, and thus the multiple opportunities to use and process data, new options have emerged to measure and monitor factors that affect health. Thus, in recent years, several gateways for open data (including governmental and geospatial data) became available. At present, an increasing number of research institutions as well as (state and private) companies and citizens' initiatives provide data. However, there is a lack of overviews covering the range of such offerings regarding health. In particular, for geographically differentiated analyses, there are challenges related to data availability at different spatial levels and the growing number of data providers.</p> <p><strong>Objectives</strong></p> <p>To provide an overview of open data resources available in the context of space and health to date. It also describes the technical and legal conditions for using open data</p> <p><strong>Results</strong></p> <p>An up-to-date summary of results including information on relevant data access and terms of use is provided along with a web visualization. All data is available for further use under an open license.</p>
Umbrella review data of colour-associated bioactive pigments found in fruit and vegetables, compared to placebo or low intakes, on human health outcomes relevant to public health
<p>This dataset comprises data extracted from 86 publications included in an umbrella review which compared the effect of colour-associated bioactive pigments found in fruit and vegetables (carotenoids, flavonoids, betalains and chlorophyll) on human health outcomes relevant to public health. Meta-analysed data from 83 systematic literature reviews were available for 17 different bioactive pigments spanning all colours of fruit and vegetables except green, with additional data from two randomised controlled trials and one cohort study for chlorophyll. This dataset represents 2,847 original research studies and data from over 37 million participants. There were 449 meta-analysed health outcomes extracted from the 83 systematic literature reviews. Extracted health outcomes were categorised according to pigment, comparator type, broad health outcome, study design, age group, source of pigment, risk of bias, and confidence in the estimated effect. Data extracted were dose, intervention duration, sample size, number of original studies, effect estimate, 95% confidence intervals, I2 statistics, publication bias and p-value. Rigorous analysis, including estimations of a common effect size, stratification of the evidence, study level sensitivity analyses and reporting on heterogeneity and potential biases, may be carried out using these data, to further evaluate the effect of colour-associated bioactive pigments in fruit and vegetables on human health.</p>
