This represents a combination of the two datasets presented in the main text in Fig. 9. The deep-sea extrapolation uses data from Seiter, Hensen, and Zabel (2005), while the shallow ocean (SFD&lt;1000m) uses data from J&oslash;rgensen, Wenzh&ouml;fer, Egger, and Glud (2022). The area South-Est of Australia remains empty as in Seiter et al. (2005) and for reasons given in the main text.</p>

Reactive response to predation risk affects foraging time of hares, yet not their phosphorus intake

<p>Antipredator responses could affect nutrient intake, which could lead to nutritional deficits. However, little is known about the antipredator response of small herbivores because most are nocturnal or crepuscular and therefore very difficult to study in the field. Therefore, we experimentally assessed the effect of a reactive response to predation risk on the nutrient (i.e., phosphorous) intake of the European hare (<em>Lepus</em> <em>europaeus</em>) using three different playback sounds. Additionally, we studied the time spent being costly vigilant, the time spent foraging, and the vegetation height in which the hares were present using accelerometers and GPS. Our results showed that elevated predation risk from our playback experiment did not affect the (1) phosphorus intake, (2) time spent being costly vigilant, and (3) time spent in tall vegetation. However, elevated predation risk did increase the time spent foraging. Possibly hares spent more time foraging with an increased predation risk because hares cannot seek refuge from predators. Additionally, the effect on phosphorus intake could be weak because phosphorous intake does not benefit a flight escape, while the reactive response acts late in the predation sequence limiting the effect on hare ecology. Prey anti-predator responses seem strongly related to the escape tactics of prey species that can differ between different habitats and the time of the day. More detailed field studies are necessary to get a better insight into species' anti-predator-food tactics.</p>

Cross-reactive CD8+ T cell responses to tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) and homologous microbiota-derived antigens (MoAs)

<p><strong><span>Background: </span></strong><span>We have recently shown extensive sequence and conformational homology between tumor-associated antigens (TAAs) and antigens derived from microorganisms (MoAs). The present study aimed to assess the breadth of T-cell recognition specific to MoAs and the corresponding TAAs in healthy subjects (HS) and patients with cancer (CP).</span></p> <p><strong><span>Method: </span></strong><span>A library of &gt;100 peptide-MHC (pMHC) combinations was used to generate DNA-barcode labelled multimers. Homologous peptides were selected from the Cancer Antigenic Peptide Database, as well as Bacteroidetes/Firmicutes-derived peptides. They were incubated with CD8+ T cells from the peripheral blood of HLA-A*02:01 healthy individuals (n=10) and cancer patients (n=16). T cell recognition was identified using tetramer-staining analysis. Cytotoxicity assay was performed using as target cells TAP-deficient T2 cells loaded with MoA or the paired TuA.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Results: </span></strong><span>A total of 66 unique pMHC recognized by CD8+ T cells across all groups were identified. Of these, 21 epitopes from microbiota were identified as novel immunological targets. Reactivity against selected TAAs was observed for both HS and CP. pMHC tetramer staining confirmed CD8+ T cell populations cross-reacting with CTA SSX2 and paired microbiota epitopes. Moreover, PBMCs activated with the MoA where shown to release IFN&gamma; as well as to exert cytotoxic activity against cells presenting the paired TuA.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Conclusions: </span></strong><span>Several predicted microbiota-derived MoAs are recognized by T cells in HS and CP. Reactivity against TAAs was observed also in HS, primed by the homologous bacterial antigens. CD8+ T cells cross-reacting with MAGE-A1 and paired microbiota epitopes were identified in three subjects. Therefore, the microbiota can elicit an extensive repertoire of natural memory T cells to TAAs, possibly able to control tumor growth (&ldquo;natural anti-cancer vaccination&rdquo;). In addition, non-self MoAs can be included in preventive/therapeutic off-the-shelf cancer vaccines with more potent anti-tumor efficacy than those based on TAAs.</span></p>

DOI: <a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.foodchem.2022.132653">10.1016/j.foodchem.2022.132653</a>.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>This study aimed to evaluate the applicability of purified pea ingredients (starch and protein isolate) by assessing their potential to form volatile compounds during the different steps of sponge cake development compared to pea flour and wheat flour. While pea flour was highly susceptible to lipid oxidation during batter beating, the combination of purified pea starch and pea protein yielded significantly fewer oxidation markers with known green-beany off-odors. This was due more to the inactivation of lipoxygenase during flour fractionation than to differences in batter structure. However, fractionated ingredients were highly prone to participating in the Maillard reaction and caramelization during baking, leading to a more complex mixture of pyrazines, Strecker aldehydes and furanic compounds with potential malty and roasted notes compared to cakes based on pea flour or wheat flour. These findings confirm that using purified pea fractions can create high-quality products with an attractive composition.</p>

Enhancing bioreactor arrays for automated measurements and reactive control with ReacSight

<p>This dataset supports the paper <em>&quot;</em>Enhancing bioreactor arrays for automated measurements and reactive control with ReacSight&quot; (2021). ReacSight is a generic and flexible strategy to enhance bioreactor arrays for automated measurements and reactive experiment control. We used ReacSight to assemble a platform for cytometry-based characterization and reactive optogenetic control of parallel yeast continuous cultures. Using a dedicated bioreactor array, we showcased its capabilities on several applications. This dataset contains all the corresponding raw data. Together with code available in the <a href="https://gitlab.inria.fr/InBio/Public/reacsight">ReacSight git repository</a>, it allows to reproduce the analysis of raw data and the generation of the figures appearing in the paper.</p>

Data and code for: No evidence of metabolic costs following adaptive immune activation or reactivation in house sparrows

<p>We examined the energetic costs of immune activation by measuring both basal (BMR) and exercise-induced maximal metabolic rates (MMR) in house sparrows before and after being injected with either saline (sham) or two novel antigens (keyhole limpet haemocyanin and sheep red blood cells; KLH and SRBC, respectively) after the primary and two subsequent vaccinations. We also examined the effect of experimentally-induced breeding levels of testosterone (T) on immune responses and their metabolic costs in both males and females. </p>

The impact of ice sheet geometry on meltwater ingress and reactive solute transport in sedimentary basins

<p> We investigate the effect of ice sheet geometry on groundwater flow patterns and meltwater ingress in a hypothetical sedimentary basin. The simulation results indicate that meltwater ingress is much greater in 3D domains with a relatively narrow ice sheet extent compared to a wide ice sheet, or a simplified 2D model. In high permeability units (HPUs), the simulated meltwater penetration depth can reach up to 750 m in 3D domains compared to 400 m in a comparable 2D domain. In low permeability units (LPUs), very limited meltwater penetration occurs, indicating that ice sheet geometry and model dimensionality do not substantially affect water flow in these units. A conservative tracer, with a source located at a depth of 500 meters in both HPUs and LPUs, illustrates that solutes can be transported to greater depths in HPUs for a narrow ice lobe scenario, in comparison to a wide ice sheet or the 2D approach. Tracer transport in LPUs is unaffected by ice sheet geometry. Similarly, simulation results indicate that the ingress of dissolved oxygen (O<sub>2</sub>) into HPUs is most substantial below a narrow ice lobe, while O<sub>2</sub> ingress into LPUs is not affected by ice sheet geometry. The numerical experiments indicate that 3D analysis will give more comprehensive results for flow patterns and reactive solute transport subjected to glaciation/deglaciation cycles in the case of a narrow ice lobe, but also suggest that a 2D approach might provide an adequate representation for the case of a relatively wide ice sheet.</p>

Reactivity Switch of Platinum with Gallium: From Reverse Water Gas Shift to Methanol Synthesis

<p><span>The development of efficient catalysts for the hydrogenation of CO<sub>2</sub> to methanol using &ldquo;green&rdquo; H<sub>2</sub> is foreseen to be a key step to </span><span>close the carbon cycle</span><span>.</span><span> In this study, we show that small and narrowly distributed alloyed PtGa nanoparticles supported on silica, prepared via a surface organometallic chemistry (SOMC) approach, display notable activity for the hydrogenation of CO<sub>2</sub> to methanol, reaching 7.2 mol h<sup>-1</sup> mol<sub>Pt</sub><sup>-1</sup> methanol formation rate with a 54% intrinsic CH<sub>3</sub>OH selectivity. This reactivity sharply contrasts with what is expected for Pt, which favors the reverse water gas shift reaction, albeit with a poor activity (2.6 mol h<sup>-1</sup> mol<sub>Pt</sub><sup>-1</sup>). <em>In situ</em> XAS studies indicate that ca. 50% of Ga is reduced to Ga<sup>0</sup> yielding alloyed PtGa nanoparticles, while the remaining 50% persist as isolated Ga<sup>III</sup> sites. The PtGa catalyst </span><span>slight</span><span>ly dealloys under CO<sub>2</sub> hydrogenation conditions and displays redox dynamics with PtGa-GaO<sub>x</sub> interfaces, responsible for promoting both CO<sub>2</sub> hydrogenation activity and methanol selectivity. Further tailoring the catalyst interface by using a carbon support in place of silica enables to improve the methanol formation rate by a factor of ~5.</span></p>

Psychedelic drug effects on reactivity of the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus and threat responding behavior

<p>Psychedelics have experienced renewed interest following studies suggesting potential therapeutic effects in patients with affective disorders. While clinical results look promising, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying acute and prolonged effects of psychedelics remain unclear. Many psychiatric disorders involve hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis dysfunction. The paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus (PVN) is a midline hypothalamic nucleus that plays an integral role in HPA stress reactivity, autonomic functioning, social behavior, and many other affective processes. We investigated the effect of psilocin, the psychoactive metabolite of psilocybin, on PVN reactivity in Sprague Dawley rats. Psilocin increased stimulus-independent activity as measured by c-Fos expression in the PVN of male and female rats. Psilocin also increased PVN reactivity (ΔF/F) to an aversive air-puff stimulus in males but not females. PVN reactivity was restored at 2- and 7-days post-injection with no group differences. Additionally, we found that prior psilocin injection did not affect PVN reactivity following acute restraint stress. Experimental groups were sub-classified by baseline threat responding and psilocin-induced increases in male PVN reactivity were found to be driven by baseline active threat responders. Overall, these data demonstrate that the PVN is a significant site of psychedelic drug action with implications for threat responding behavior.</p>
