This desk review evaluates the current state of interventions for mental health and cognitive functioning among older adults in Switzerland focusing on the features of these interventions as well as on Swiss-specific contextual factors that contribute to vulnerability and stigma. This results of the desk review has been submitted for publication to 'LIVES Working Papers' and 'Swiss Psychology Open' . The two versions of the desk review differ slightly. The version for LIVES Working Papers, included the results of the Delphi survey and the resulting intervention scenarios. The version for Swiss Psychology Open, did not include the Delphi survey results and the resulting intervention scenarios, but included a more detailed discussion of the review results.</p>
Efficacy and safety of subcutaneous vs. sublingual immunotherapy in allergic rhinitis: a systematic review and meta-analysis
<p>Allergic rhinitis significantly impacts patients' quality of life, and allergen immunotherapy (AIT) offers an alternative to conventional treatments. This study compares the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT) and sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for allergic rhinitis. A comprehensive search of PubMed, Embase, and ClinicalTrials.gov identified nine randomized controlled trials involving 780 patients (427 SCIT, 353 SLIT). The primary outcome was symptom score; secondary outcomes included medication score, symptom medication score, and local and systemic reactions. Results showed SCIT significantly reduced symptom scores compared to SLIT (Pooled SMD: -0.52, 95% CI: -0.60, -0.03, I2 =83%, P<0.05). However, SCIT patients experienced more severe systemic reactions (grade 3&4) than SLIT patients (Pooled SMD: 6.27, 95% CI: 1.47, 26.73, I2 =0%, P=0.01). Other outcomes were comparable between both groups. In conclusion, SCIT is slightly more effective than SLIT but is associated with a higher frequency of severe systemic reactions, guiding clinicians to tailor treatments to individual patient needs.</p>
Comparison and practical review of segmentation approaches for label-free microscopy
<p>This dataset contains microscopic images of PNT1A cell line captured by multiple microcopic without use of any labeling and a manually annotated ground truth for subsequent use in segmentation algorithms. Dataset also includes images reconstructed according to the methods described below in order to ease further segmentation. </p> <p>See Vicar et al. Prior microscopy acquisition, cells were maintained at 37 cenigrade in a humidified incubator with 5% CO2. Intentionally, high passage number of cells was used (>30) in order to describe distinct morphological heterogeneity of cells (rounded and spindle-shaped, relatively small to large polyploid cells). For acquisition purposes, cells were cultivated in Flow chambers µ-Slide I Luer Family (Ibidi, Martinsried, Germany).</p> <p>Quantitative phase imaging (QPI) microscopy was performed on Tescan Q-PHASE (Tescan, Brno, Czech republic), with objective Nikon CFI Plan Fluor 10x/0.30 captured by Ximea MR4021MC (Ximea, Münster, Germany). <p>This dataset contains the data that were used in a review paper "From urban data to city-scale models: A review of traffic simulation case studies". It contains the following files:</p> <ul> <li>keywords with counts.txt - list of keywords and their counts in the considered corpus of traffic simulation case studies. The data were used to produce Figure 2 and Figure 3 in the paper.</li> <li>Papers analysis.xlsx - Excel file containing the data on the reviewed studies. <p>This dataset belongs to the review titled <em>Sustaining the ‘Frozen Footprints’ of Scholarly Communication through Open Citations</em>. The review explores the developments in the open citations movement, the OpenCitations infrastructure, and the Initiative for Open Citations (I4OC), providing a comprehensive overview of key milestones and initiatives.</p> <p>The dataset includes bibliographic and citation data for 174 scholarly outputs and 149 blogposts analyzed in the review. These outputs were drawn from a range of sources, including journal articles, conference proceedings, and other scholarly materials. <p><span>We </span><span>reviewed existing modelling studies focusing on soil ecosystem services (SES) and soil threats (ST) including climate change, land use change and management scenarios. A publication has been submitted and is currently being reviewed. The title of the manuscript is: </span><span>Assessing and mapping soil ecosystem services and soil threats changes in agroecosystems through scenario-based approaches – a systematic review. </span></p> <p><span>Work was split between various authors. All Co-authors were working on either one or more SES or one ST. Excel sheets were prepared by INRA and BFW to ensure the comparability of results that members extracted from the papers found. Literature search was done in Scopus and Web of Science. The final list of related publications is reported here. <br></span></p>

Not So Weak-PICO: Leveraging weak supervision for Participants, Interventions, and Outcomes recognition for systematic review automation
<p>EBM-PICO is a widely used dataset with PICO annotations at two levels: span-level or coarse-grained and entity-level or fine-grained. Span-level annotations encompass the full information about each class. Entity-level annotations cover the more fine-grained information at the entity level, with PICO classes further divided into fine-grained subclasses. For example, the coarse-grained Participant span is further divided into participant age, gender, condition and sample size in the randomised controlled trial. This dataset comes pre-divided into a training set (n=4,933) annotated through crowd-sourcing and an expert annotated gold test set (n=191) for evaluation.</p> <p>The <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6174533/bin/NIHMS988059-supplement-Appendix.pdf">EBM-PICO annotation guidelines</a> caution about variable annotation quality. <a href="http://ceur-ws.org/Vol-2429/paper1.pdf">Abaho et al.</a> developed a framework to post-hoc correct EBM-PICO outcomes annotation inconsistencies. <a href="https://arxiv.org/pdf/1904.09557.pdf">Lee et al.</a> studied annotation span disagreements suggesting variability across the annotators. Low annotation quality in the training dataset is excusable, but the errors in the test set can lead to faulty evaluation of the downstream ML methods. We evaluate 1% of the EBM-PICO training set tokens to gauge the possible reasons for the fine-grained labelling errors and use this exercise to conduct an error-focused PICO re-annotation for the EBM-PICO gold test set. The file 'test_ebm_correctedlabels.tsv' has error corrected EBM-PICO gold test set.</p> <p> </p> <p>The upload also contains two zip files containing labelling sources mentioned in the Distant-PICO paper. </p> <ol> <li>ds_cto_dict.zip: contains the four distant supervision dictionaries (P: participant.txt, I = intervention.txt, intervetion_syn.txt, O: outcome.txt) generated from clinicaltrials.gov using the methodology described in Distant-CTO. </li> <li>handcrafted_dictionaries.zip: contains three files <ul> <li>gender_sexuality.txt: contains a list of possible genders and sexual orientations found across the web. The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic On Cities. A Scoping Review Protocol
<p>The aim of the scoping review is to map out evidence based research on the Covid-19 pandemic impact on the European cities. The review questions touch three broad areas of interest:</p> <ol> <li>the aspects of urban life described and analysed in publications on the impact of the pandemic on cities</li> <li>the aspects of urban life that are described in terms of crisis, breakdown, turnaround, etc. (crisis, disruption, slump, shift…) in such studies</li> <li>theoretical and methodological approaches applied in such studies</li> </ol> <p>The search was conducted in June 2022, with the final body of literature consisting of 3,994 publication references from EBSCOhost, APA Psyc, Scopus, Web of Science, Proquest, Wiley, Sage, JSTOR, Tailor&Francis, Oxford Journals databases (Fig. 1). The following English words were searched for in titles, abstracts and keywords in the databases: (pandemic OR ‘Covid-19’) AND (city OR cities OR urban*). We used the following criteria for articles to be included in the study: 1) peer and non-peer-reviewed empirical papers in journals published in English from January 2019 to June 2022; 2) included studies where the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on European city/cities was an explicit variable of interest; 3) contained analysis of empirical data on cities or urban life retrieved or collected within and explicitly addressing the COVID-19 pandemic; 4) addressed the social, cultural, economic, political and socio-geographical aspects of a city. We excluded from our sample papers that were: 1) theoretical and opinion literature, media press releases, reports, MA dissertations and PhD theses; 2) secondary research papers (reviews, meta-analyses); 3) papers not in English; 4) studies about non-European cities; 5) studies which do not explicitly address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cities; 6) studies addressing a city as a variable of secondary importance; 7) studies outside the scope of the COVID-19 pandemic, published before December 2019; 8) studies not addressing the social or human aspects of urban life.</p> <p>The final database of coded documents consisted of 138 empirical articles presenting findings on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on European cities. </p>

Protocol for a systematic review: association between airborne pollen, intermittent allergic rhinitis and blood pressure
<p>Previous epidemiological studies have found an increased risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality following days with heightened pollen exposure and suggested that intermittent allergic rhinitis might be associated with blood pressure. Pollen sensitization and subsequent pollen exposure cause local inflammation and cytokine release in individuals with intermittent allergic rhinitis (pollen allergy). Inflammatory mediators can travel throughout the body, hence providing the physiologic basis by which pollen allergy may lead to systemic inflammation, which is known to be a risk factor for cardiovascular events. However, the findings regarding the potential association between intermittent allergic rhinitis, pollen exposure, and cardiovascular health are not fully conclusive. To date, no systematic review has been published on this topic.</p> <p>This systematic review seeks to answer: Are exposure to airborne pollen and intermittent allergic rhinitis associated with blood pressure? Secondary questions include: (1) Are there personal characteristics (sex, age) which modify a potential association between intermittent allergic rhinitis or pollen exposure with blood pressure and/or hypertension? Datasets and codes for the peer review article "Human and natural impacts on the U.S. freshwater salinization and alkalinization: A machine learning approach"
<p>Ongoing salinization and alkalinization in U.S. rivers have been attributed to inputs of road salt and effects of human-accelerated weathering in previous studies. Salinization poses a severe threat to human and ecosystem health, while human derived alkalinization implies increasing uncertainty in the dynamics of terrestrial sequestration of atmospheric carbon dioxide. A mechanistic understanding of whether and how human activities accelerate weathering and contribute to the geochemical changes in U.S. rivers is lacking. To address this uncertainty, we compiled dissolved sodium (salinity proxy) and alkalinity values along with 32 watershed properties ranging from hydrology, climate, geomorphology, geology, soil chemistry, land use, and land cover for 226 river monitoring sites across the coterminous U.S. Using these data, we built two machine-learning models to predict monthly-aggregated sodium and alkalinity fluxes at these sites. The sodium-prediction model detected human activities (represented by population density and impervious surface area) as major contributors to the salinity of U.S. rivers. In contrast, the alkalinity-prediction model identified natural processes as predominantly contributing to variation in riverine alkalinity flux, including runoff, carbonate sediment or siliciclastic sediment, soil pH and soil moisture. Unlike prior studies, our analysis suggests that the alkalinization in U.S. rivers is largely governed by local climatic and hydrogeological conditions.</p>
