Sky View Factor layer of the metropolitan plain of Florence (Tuscany, Italy)
<p>Sky View Factor (SVF) is a dimensionless parameter that returns, with values between 0 and 1, the degree of exposure of a surface to the celestial vault, or the portion of the sky visible from a certain point located at ground level (Oke, 1981). This factor is influenced by urban elements geometry: values close to 1 correspond to a large visible portion, while values close to 0 indicate a limited vision of the sky.</p> <p>The Florence SVF layer is a raster data (Reference System ETRS89-extended / LAEA Europe - EPSG:3035; extent: 4384619.05 - 4437783.05; columns number/rows number: 53164 / 36411) with 1 m spatial resolution: it was calculated by the Digital Surface Model (DSM), obtained from the Lidar dataset of the 2007-2010 period of the Tuscany Region. Sky View Factor layer of Florence (Tuscany, Italy)
<p>Sky View Factor (SVF) is a dimensionless parameter that returns, with values between 0 and 1, the degree of exposure of a surface to the celestial vault, or the portion of the sky visible from a certain point located at ground level (Oke, 1981). This factor is influenced by urban elements geometry: values close to 1 correspond to a large visible portion, while values close to 0 indicate a limited vision of the sky.</p> <p>The Florence SVF layer is a raster data (Reference System RDN2008 / UTM zone 32N - EPSG: 7791; extent: 673142.13 – 4843854.78; columns number / rows number: 15000 / 12154) with 1 m spatial resolution: it was calculated by the Digital Surface Model (DSM), obtained from the 2017 Lidar dataset. Lidar-DSM layers are available on the OpenData platform of Florence Municipality at the following link: http://dati.toscana.it/dataset/dsm-2017 (accessed on 29/01/2021).</p>
Flood maps of Rainfall Event of November 2023 in Tuscany, Italy
<p>To support the evaluation of the Digital Twin system of the SCORE project, we defined an improved flood mapping procedure based on high-resolution SAR data to obtain flood maps of hystorical events, which will be used as validation reference for the Digital Twin outputs maps. We analyzed a recent significant flood event occurred in the densely populated Florence-Prato-Pistoia plain area (Tuscany, Italy) between 2 and 5 November, 2023. The estimated total losses for the entire region are at 1890 million euros.<br>The available images used for the the flood event analysis were acquired by COSMO-SkyMed Second Generation on 5 November 2023 in dual polarization HH-HV and by COSMO-SkyMed First Generation on 6 November 2023 in HH polarization. The flood mapping procedure, based on clustering and fuzzy logic approach, has been applied to Florence-Prato-Pistoia plain study area in rural areas and, when cross-polarization data are available, in urban areas. The dataset includes two images: the first one (named flood_05.11.2023_compressed.tif) is a map of the flood extent in rural areas of the region of interest and urban areas of Pistoia, Prato, Sesto Fiorentino and Firenze on 5 November; the second one (named flood_06.11.2023_compressed.tif) is a map of the flood extent in rural areas of the region of interest on 6 November.</p> <div> <div> <div> <div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <p> </p>

<p>Collection of 148 datasets representing 75 environmental, geomorphologic, and socio-economic variables associated with the Massaciuccoli Lake basin in Tuscany, Italy. <br>The data cover five temporal snapshots: remote past (1950-1980), recent past (1981-2015), present (2016.2024), near future (2050 under RCP4.5 and 8.5), and remote future (2100 under RCP4.5 and 8.5)<br>Raster data have been harmonised and resampled at 0.0005° (~50 m) resolution.<br>Vector data have been aligned and cut over the basin boundaries.<br>A QGIS project using the WGS84 EPSG:4326 projection is included in the ZIP file. </p> <p>A metadata file (in MS Excel format) reports data content descriptions, the primary sources, their FAIRness levels, and the direct links to the primary sources when available. <br>The dataset numbers are aligned to the table Id-column entries.</p>

A wooden map of the Medieval connections between castles in Ssouthern Tuscany. Wooden model of a map representing the network of medieval castles between Mount Amiata and the Thyrrenian sea. Medieval Figure on Lintel, Arcidosso, Tuscany
A Medieval character that looks like a 13th Century Yoda. A similar figure is depicted in The Decretals of Gregory IX with gloss of Bernard of Parma, and other early manuscripts. https://blogs.bl.uk/digitisedmanuscripts/2017/05/ready-are-you-more-medieval-yodas.html We documented a similar image in a large sculpture in the Museum of Evora, Portugal. Also on Sketchfab. More generally, the use of monster faces (or masks) appear in 16th-17th c. public fountains at Arcidosso (near St. Mary Incoronata) and Santa Fiora. DNA samples from egg masses were marked with C followed by a reference number when DNA was extracted directly from an egg mass; they were marked with L followed by a reference number if DNA extraction was performed from hatched larvae.
