Ice thicknesses of the Müller ice cap

Modeled ice thicknesses of the Müller ice cap, Axel Heiberg Island. Five different models of the ice thickness has been made. All model results comes with individual GeoTIFFs of bedrock topography, ice thickness and surface elevation. The data is either on a 100 or 900 meters grid depending on the model.

Citation:

Ann-Sofie P. Zinck, Surface velocity and ice thickness of the Müller ice cap, Axel Heiberg Island, Master thesis, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, 2020

Surface velocities of the Müller ice cap

A median surface velocity map of the Müller ice cap on Axel Heiberg Island in the period of 2014 to 2019. The surface velocity maps are made using feature tracking of optical Landsat 8 images using the panchromatic band. The velocity map is on a 900 meters grid.

ListOFLandsat8scenes.xlsx provides a list of all of the scenes used in the feature tracking process. The feature tracking is done using two scenes from the same row and path with approximately one year in between. The median of all velocity maps has been made and is presented here.

Citation:

Ann-Sofie P. Why the CAP should widen its approach to resilience

To achieve its objectives in a changing world, the Common Agricultural Policy needs to put the resilience of Europe’s farming systems at its center. The current CAP focuses on making the farming community more robust against shocks in the short run. However, a broader view on resilience is needed to ensure a sustainable agricultural sector in the longer term. This new vision should pay sufficient attention to developing the capacities of both individual farms and farming systems to adapt to changing circumstances and to transform their business models where necessary to maintain the delivery of food, fiber, energy and public goods in the long run.

The CAP post-2020

The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) of the European Union is essential to enhance the resilience of Europe’s farming systems along three capacities: robustness, adaptability and transformability. The SURE-Farm project conducted the first systematic assessment how the CAP performs in this regard. The findings show that hitherto the CAP has been overly focused on supporting the robustness of an increasingly fragile status quo, with uneven effects, while neglecting adaptability and even constraining transformability. The future CAP needs to allow for a better balance with policy mixes that are tailored to regional needs, based on a shared long-term vision. This implies replacing direct payments with measures that specifically address resilience needs, e.g. points-based eco-schemes, agro-environmental programs, coordinated adaptation to shifting markets, ample support for cross-sectoral cooperation, innovation and advice to integrate production and provision of public goods, and participatory and integrative foresight to develop transformation pathways.

Polar Cap Patches Detected with RISR-N

Database of Polar Cap Patches detected with the North face of the Resolute Bay Incoherent Scatter Radar (RISR-N)

This dataset was generated by applying two polar cap patch detection algorithm described to the full RISR-N database.

The Ren2018 algorithm was first described in Ren et al., 2018 (doi:10.1029/2018JA025621). It includes the time, peak, and prominence of all detected patches, asd well as the average electron and ion temperature and electron density within each patch.

The Perry2018 algorithm was first described in Perry & St. Maurice, 2018 (doi:10.1029/2018RS006600). Instead of a list of patches, this algorithm generates a patch index for each time in the database which corresponds to the percentage of the F-region FoV filled with patches.

The script that generates this database in available on GitHub: Polar-Cap-Scintillation/polar_cap_patch_detection

Version 4 of this dataset includes RISR-N data through 2024 and has an error corrected that may cause some patches to be counted multiple times in the earlier versions.
