Experimental Data for "Seismic wave attenuation and dispersion due to partial fluid saturation: Direct measurements and numerical simulations based on X-Ray CT"

Includes X-ray CT scans and mechanical response of sample.</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>Quantitatively assessing seismic attenuation caused by fluid pressure diffusion (FPD) in partially saturated rocks is challenging because of its sensitivity to the spatial fluid distribution. To address this challenge we performed depressurisation experiments to induce the exsolution of carbon dioxide from water in a Berea sandstone sample. In a first set of experiments we used medical X-ray computed tomography (CT) to characterise the fluid distribution. At an equilibrium pressure of ~1 MPa and applying a fluid pressure decline rate of ~0.6 MPa per minute, we allowed a change in saturation of less than 1 %. The gas was heterogeneously distributed along the length of the sample, with most of the gas exsolving near the sample outlet. In a second set of experiments, at the same pressure and temperature, following a very similar exsolution protocol, we measured the frequency dependent attenuation and modulus dispersion between 0.1 and 1000 Hz using the forced oscillation method. We observed significant attenuation and dispersion in the extensional and bulk deformation modes, however not in the shear mode. Lastly, we use the fluid distribution derived from the X-ray CT as an input for numerical simulations of FPD to compute the attenuation and modulus dispersion. The numerical solutions are in close agreement with the attenuation and modulus dispersion measured in the laboratory. Our methodology allows for accurately relating attenuation and dispersion to the fluid distribution, which can be applied to improving the seismic monitoring of the subsurface.</p>

Experimental and simulation data from Stransky et al. "Ionization by XFEL radiation produces distinct structure in liquid water"

<p>This deposition contains two separate gzipped tarballs:</p> <ol> <li><strong>preprocessed_diffraction_data.tar.gz</strong><br>pre-processed diffraction data, specifically I(q) traces for each X-ray pulse along with associated metadata</li> <li><strong>XMDYN_simulations.tar.gz</strong><br>simulation trajectories produced by the XMDYN code that describe water ionization following an intense X-ray pulse</li> </ol> <p>In more detail, the <strong>preprocessed_diffraction_data.tar.gz</strong> contains 36 HDF5 files, each corresponding to a single LCLS run. Simulated and Experimental Magnetic Resonance Data of Fentanyl HCl

<p><span>This data consists of simulations and experimental measurements of solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (SSNMR) spectroscopy, fast-field cycling (FFC) NMR spectroscopy, and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) spectroscopy of fentanyl HCl. <sup>14</sup>N and <sup>35</sup>Cl SSNMR data are included as the topspin binary format. <sup>1</sup>H FFC NMR data are included as the sdf format. <sup>14</sup>N NQR data of both NQR spectra are included as the tnt format. Simulated <sup>14</sup>N and <sup>35</sup>Cl SSNMR data from QUEST are included in an exported topspin binary format. Simulated <sup>14</sup>N SSNMR data from SIMPSON is included in the SIMPSON fid format. Simulated Zeeman-perturbed NQR from SPINACH is included as a csv. In all cases post-processed data are also included in the form of csv files for easy viewing by readers. Each csv typically has the first column as a vector of frequencies and the second column as the processed NMR data.</span></p>

Data from: Demographic stochasticity alters expected outcomes in experimental and simulated non-neutral communities

Theory has shown that the effects of demographic stochasticity on communities may depend on the magnitude of fitness differences between species. In particular, it has been suggested that demographic stochasticity has the potential to significantly alter competitive outcomes when fitness differences are small (nearly neutral), but that it has minimal effects when fitness differences are large (highly non-neutral). Here we test such theory experimentally and extend it to examine how demographic stochasticity affects exclusion frequency and mean densities of consumers in simple, but non-neutral, consumer-resource communities. We used experimental microcosms of protists and rotifers feeding on a bacterial resource to test how varying absolute population sizes (a driver of demographic stochasticity) affected the probability of competitive exclusion of the weakest competitor. To explore whether demographic stochasticity could explain our experimental results, and to generalize beyond our experiment, we paired the experiment with a continuous-time stochastic model of resource competition, which we simulated for 11 different fitness inequalities between competiting consumers. Consistent with theory, in both our experiments and our simulations we found that demographic stochasticity altered competitive outcomes in communities where fitness differences were small. However, we also found that demographic stochasticity alone could affect communities in other ways, even when fitness differences between competitors were large. Specifically, demographic stochasticity altered mean densities of both weak and strong competitors in experimental and simulated communities. These findings highlight how demographic stochasticity can change both competitive outcomes in non-neutral communities and the processes underlying overall community dynamics.

ICESat-2 Pre-Launch Simulated Multiple Altimeter Beam Experimental Lidar Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System (MATLAS) Data, Version 2

Multiple Altimeter Beam Experimental Lidar (MABEL) Advanced Topographic Laser Altimeter System (MATLAS) simulates the expected performance of the ICESat-2 ATLAS instrument. The data are produced from MABEL data by adjusting the detected number of signal and noise photons to that predicted using ATLAS instrument model design cases. ATOMIC Simulations and Experimental Data for Sodium and Copper Mixtures

<p>This data consists of simulations and experimental measurements of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS). The simulations are produced by ATOMIC, a general purpose plasma modeling and kinetics code that has been designed to compute emission (or absorption) spectra from plasmas [1]. Our overall suite of simulations contains 12 sets of simulations: training and validation sets of simulations for each of two resolutions of each of sodium, copper, and mixtures of the two. The training data were produced using a 500-run design that varies input parameters temperature (T), electron density (Ne), proportion of sodium (pNa), and proportion of copper (pCu). The latter two variables sum to one and are unused in the single-element simulations. The validation data was produced with a 25-run design. The coarse simulations produce spectra over a range of 240nm - 880nm that roughly mimics the range collected by the ChemCam instrument on the Mars rover Curiosity. The fine resolution simulations produce spectra over a range of 550nm to 600nm and were produced to mimic the included experimental results. The experimental results cover four mixtures of sodium and copper. All data sets are kept in zip files whose names indicate the elemental composition (NaCu, Na, or Cu), resolution (coarse or fine), and purpose (training or validation) with file names numbered to indicate the line in the design files used to produce the simulation. The designs are provided as text files with names indicating their purpose. The experimental data is provided as a CSV file.
