Larval euphausiids collected using a 1 x 1 m square frame net with 333-μm mesh aboard Palmer LTER annual cruises off the coast of the Western Antarctic Peninsula, 1993-2013
Euphausiids (krill) are abundant along the Western Antarctic Peninsula where they have important impacts on the marine ecosystem and biogeochemical cycling. Euphausiids develop through a series of morphologically distinct larval stages within the first year of their life cycle. The calyptopis stages are followed by the furcilia stages before individuals recruit to the post-larval population. Larvae collected during Janury were most likely spawned during the preceding weeks or months of Antarctic spring/summer. Euphausia superba and Thysanoessa macrura are the most abundant euphausiid species along the Western Antarctic Peninsula. Euphausia crystallorophias, Euphausia frigida, and Euphausia triacantha are present but less abundant in the region. Samples were collected with a 1 x 1 m square frame net with 333-μm mesh towed obliquely to a depth of typically 300 m. Density of total calyptopis and furcilia larvae (all species combined) was determined for a subset of samples collected on the annual Palmer LTER cruises to cover the latitudinal and cross-shelf gradients of the study region. Larval euphausiid abundance varies spatially as spawning output is not homogeneous across the region. Larval euphausiid abundance also varies year-to-year due to changes in population demographics and environmental conditions.
Database of Uniaxial Shaking Table Tests for a Two-Storey Steel-Frame Structure
<h2>Description:</h2> <p>This data set contains data from experiments conducted on a two-storey steel-frame structure, involving sine-sweep, white noise, impulse, and earthquake loading. The experiments were carried out using a uniaxial shaking table of the <a href="https://www.lbb.rwth-aachen.de/go/id/eaxh/">Institute of Structural Analysis and Dynamics (LBB) - RWTH Aachen University</a>, in cooperation with the <a href="https://www.stb.rwth-aachen.de/cms/~iozv/STB/">Institute of Structural Steel (STB) - RWTH Aachen</a> and the <a href="https://www.cwe.rwth-aachen.de/home-2/">Center for Wind and Earthquake Engineering (CWE) – RWTH Aachen</a>.</p> <h3>Test structure:</h3> <p>The test structure was a two-storey, single-bay moment resisting frame (MRF) in the direction of excitation. In the perpendicular direction, a concentrically braced system provided lateral stability. The dimensions of the test structure were: 2.40 m length, 2.40 m width, and 3.78 m total height. Each floor had a distinct height: 2.02 m for the first floor and 1.76 m for the second. The moment resisting connections were realized as bolted extended unstiffened endplate joints. The column web panel was strengthened by two supplementary web plates (SWP) and continuity plates (CP). The base plate was meticulously modified to allow for rotation movement in order to approximate a pinned boundary condition. In addition, diaphragm action was ensured using diagonally arranged L-profiles in the plane of each floor. For additional mass, four steel I-profiles, each weighting 1650 kg were attached to the main structure (2 on each floor) and were secured by using steel U-profiles. Earthquake Response of Reinforced Concrete Frames with Infill and Active External Confinement: Tests and Dataset
<p>One option to retrofit reinforced concrete (RC) frames is the construction of infill walls. Many studies have shown that infill increases lateral strength and stiffness but tends to reduce drift capacity relative to bare frames. Fewer studies have quantified reductions in drift demand attributed to infills prior to failure. This report summarizes experiments designed to compare drift demands of frames with and without infill. Included data comes from two theses completed at Purdue University which focused on the dynamic response of one-third scale, non-ductile RC frames to uniaxial simulated earthquake ground motions. Tests were conducted on bare frames, frames with masonry infill walls, and frames with timber infill walls. In 11 of 14 test series, active confinement was applied to columns using external post-tensioned reinforcement</p> <p> </p> <p>This dataset summarizes two experimental programs that studied the dynamic, in-plane response of one-third scale RC frames with full-height infills and active external column confinement. Theses summarized were written by Monical (2021) and Kerby (2022), and included data from 254 in-plane dynamic tests of non-ductile RC frames with various seismic retrofits.</p>

PMID: 37249407.<br> <br> Seeing a speaker's face can help substantially in understanding them, in particular in challenging listening conditions. Research into the neurobiological mechanisms behind the audiovisual integration has recently begun to employ continuous natural speech. However, these efforts are impeded by a lack of high-quality audiovisual recordings of a speaker narrating a longer text. Here we seek to close this gap by developing AVbook, an audiovisual speech corpus designed for cognitive neuroscience studies and audiovisual speech recognition. The corpus consists of 3.6 hours of audiovisual recordings of two speakers, one male and one female, reading 59 passages from a narrative English text. The recordings were acquired at a high frame rate of 119.88 frames per second. The corpus includes a sets of multiple-choice questions to test attention to the different passages. We verified the efficacy of these questions in a pilot study. A short written summary is also provided for each recording. To enable audiovisual synchronization when presenting the stimuli, four videos of an electronic clapperboard were recorded with the corpus. The corpus is available for download to support research into the neurobiology of audiovisual speech processing as well as the development of computer algorithms for audiovisual speech recognition.</p>

TauBench: A Dynamic Benchmark for Graphics Rendering (Dataset Reference Frames)
<p>TauBench is a dynamic graphics rendering benchmark dataset, targeted especially towards rendering methods relying on the reuse of temporal data. The dataset is available at <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5729573">https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.5729573</a>, and this upload provides path traced reference frames for it in PNG format. The images are rendered with <a href="https://github.com/vga-group/tauray">Tauray</a> at 16384 samples per pixel (spp), at both 1080p and 2160p resolutions. FRAME (FoRests Among Managed Ecosystems) – Plant community and seed bank composition in forests, Philadelphia metropolitan area, USA, 2017-2019
Our study objectives were to conduct a Rosa multiflora (multiflora rose) removal experiment in three forest sites experiencing different invasion intensities and to restore native plant biodiversity while preventing secondary invasion. The study was conducted in and around Newark, DE, from 2017-2019, and data collection is complete. We utilized three management strategies: invasive plant removal, removal followed by native seed addition, and removal plus native seed and mulched invasive stem addition. We investigated the similarity between seed bank species composition and existing vegetation before and after removal to assess the potential for passive restoration. Two seasons after removal, we found that simply removing rose increased native species richness, Native Floristic Quality Assessment (FQAIN), and native shrub abundance in our medium invasion site, and total species richness in our low and medium invasion sites. Compared to removal alone, native seed addition, with and without mulch addition, resulted in larger native and total species richness and FQAIN increases at all sites, larger increases in native shrub abundance and exotic species richness in our medium invasion site, and larger reductions in exotic and total shrub abundance in our low and medium invasion sites. Following removal, species similarity between seed bank and vegetation improved for all three sites. Our results indicate that removal of Rosa multiflora (multiflora rose) alone increased native plant biodiversity in the medium invasion scenario, but the seed bank may not provide a large native species pool. Additional management strategies lead to improved outcomes, especially in our most invaded forest, demonstrating the need to conduct multiple plant removal treatments across forests with varying site conditions and plant invasion intensity to improve management recommendations.

The abstract below was extracted from the Level 0 data package and is included for context: This data package was produced by researchers working on the Shortgrass Steppe Long Term Ecological Research (SGS-LTER) Project, administered at Colorado State University. Long-term datasets and background information (proposals, reports, photographs, etc.) on the SGS-LTER project are contained in a comprehensive project collection within the Digital Collections of Colorado (http://digitool.library.colostate.edu/R/?func=collections&collection_id=3429). The data table and associated metadata document, which is generated in Ecological Metadata Language, may be available through other repositories serving the ecological research community and represent components of the larger SGS-LTER project collection. "2012_GS_PFandCH_GPS" contains GPS locations of all datalogger, 1m x 1m chamber flux and point frame plots sampled IVO Toolik Field Station in Alaska during the summer of 2012. The sorting variables (YEAR, DATE, SITE, GROUP, PLOT, TREAT, PLOT SIZE) are identical to those in other files with data collected that season. The main purpose of this file is for reference and as an aid in interpretation of data analyses and among-site comparisons.
Photosynthetically Active Radiation data taken with the Delta-T SunScan wand every 15 cm of 1m x 1m chamber flux and point frame plots as well as four remotely monitored canopies at the Toolik Field Station in AK, Summer 2012.
Within-canopy PAR was measured with a Delta-T SunScan wand every 15 cm from the ground to above the canopy under both direct and diffuse light. The data includes all outputs from the SunScan wand: time of measurement, spread of PAR sensors, total irradiance, total diffuse light, and individual outputs of 64-PAR sensors on the SunScan wand. These measurements were taken for 1m x 1m chamber flux (n=14) and point frame (n=19) plots as well as sites four montitored remotely by PAR sensors located above, within, and below shrub canopies. All plots were dominated either by tall Salix pulchra and Betula nana species and were located near the LTER shrub plots at Toolik Field Station , AK in the summer of 2012.

This dataset includes every pin-hit recorded from 19 1m x 1m point frame plots of tall Betula nana and Salix pulchra canopies sampled at the Toolik Field Station, AK the summer of 2012. Twenty-five evenly spaced holes within the plot were sampled for each point frame for which the height and species was recorded for each leaf, stem, or plant that intersected the pin when lowered perpendicular to the ground. Non-woody species were grouped into functional groups (e.g. forb, graminoid, moss) and not identified to species. Stem diameter and the length of gramminoid blades were also recorded.

Total and individual subsample species percent cover data for all plots where flux or point frame measurements were made in 2012 IVO the LTER Shrub vegetation plots at Toolik Field Station. All plots sampled were dominated either by B. nana or S. pulchra canopies. Cover estimates were made for the five most dominate functional groups using a 1m x 1m grid with 20cm2 blocks with each square representing four percent of the total area. Percentages represent absolute cover so do not sum to 100%.

The canopies were dominated either by Salix pulchra or Betula nana species, and plot locations were preferentially selected for tall canopies (height &gt; 75 cm). Searching as Information Literacy Unpacking the ACRL Frame of Searching As Strategic Exploration
<p>Searching as Information Literacy Unpacking the ACRL Frame of Searching As Strategic Exploration is an OER that includes a podcast, blog and associated exercise. Three University of Ottawa librarians are interviewed on search challenges they have encountered and their proposed search strategies as it relates to the ACRL framework: Searching as Strategic Exploration. Although it is possible to present an analysis of search strategies solely in writing or in traditional in-personal presentations, newer media such as podcasts allow for innovative delivery of the material in a more immediate and visceral way. That is, the audience is able to hear and receive the information directly from the experts themselves, in their own words. A podcast is also able to convey the aural nuance of a given speaker in a way that conventional scholarly approaches can’t quite duplicate. Investigation on the Use of Passive Microclimate Frames in View of the Climate Change Scenario
<p>Passive microclimate frames are exhibition enclosures able to modify their internal climate in order to comply with paintings’ conservation needs. Due to a growing concern about the effects of climate change, future policies in conservation must move towards affordable and sustainable preservation strategies. This study investigated the hygrothermal conditions monitored within a microclimate frame hosting a portrait on cardboard with the aim of discussing its use in view of the climate expected indoors in the period 2041–2070. Its effectiveness in terms of the ASHRAE classification and of the Lifetime Multiplier for chemical deterioration of paper was assessed comparing temperature and relative humidity values simultaneously measured inside the microclimate frame and in its surrounding environment, first in the Pio V Museum and later in a residential building, both located in the area of Valencia (Spain). Moreover, heat and moisture transfer functions were used to derive projections over the future indoor hygrothermal conditions in response to the ENSEMBLES-A1B outdoor scenario. The adoption of microclimate frames proved to be an effective preventive conservation action in current and future conditions but it may not be sufficient to fully avoid the chemical degradation risk without an additional control over temperature.</p>
