Carbon Dynamics Along a Permafrost Gradient at Caribou-Poker Creeks Research Watershed (CPCRW) in Interior Alaska: GPS coordinates for a 75x75m spatial domain along a permafrost and vegetation gradient.

This dataset includes GPS coordinates and elevation data across a 75x75m spatial domain in the Caribou-Poker Creeks Research Watershed. Project summary: Specific leaf area (SLA, leaf area per unit dry mass) is a key canopy structural characteristic, a measure of photosynthetic capacity, and an important input into many terrestrial process models. Although many studies have examined SLA variation, relatively few data exist from high latitude, climate-sensitive permafrost regions. We measured SLA and soil and topographic properties across a boreal forest permafrost transition, in which forest composition changed as permafrost deepened from 54 to >150 cm over 75 m hillslope transects in Caribou-Poker Creeks Research Watershed, Alaska. This is an exploratory study to begin understanding SLA variation and controls thereof in a non-contiguous permafrost system.

MCR LTER: Coral Reef: Coupled Natural-Human Systems: GPS-enabled survey of fish in Moorea’s lagoons

This dataset includes counts and sizes of fish within Moorea’s lagoons, with more than 130,000 fish recorded between 2018 and 2021. In summer of each year observers swim through Moorea’s lagoons, observing a 5-m wide swath and recording species and sizes of fish encountered in every minute of swim (about 10 linear meters of sampling). The fish counts are limited to a fixed species list (57 taxa) which was chosen to capture most of the reef associated species targeted in Moorea’s fishery, as well as important herbivores. Only fish larger than 10 cm were recorded, a size chosen to match the small end of fish observed in the catch. The resulting counts were georeferenced based on simultaneously collecting GPS data. Data are presented here on the scale of a minute of sampling. MCR LTER: Coral Reef: Coupled Natural-Human Systems: GPS Benthic Data

This dataset includes cover of benthic organisms and substrates in more than 600,000 photographic samples of Moorea’s lagoon habitats, collected between 2018 and 2021. In summer of each year swimmers towed downward facing cameras, taking 1.5 photos per second of habitats they passed over. The resulting pictures were processed through a computer vision algorithm (CoralNet), resulting in percent cover estimates in each photo of organisms such as coral and algae and substrates such as sand and rubble. These data were georeferenced based on simultaneously collecting GPS data. Data are presented here on the scale of the photograph, and are also aggregated to the scale of a minute of sampling and a transect of swimming. 2003 GPS shorelines for Hog, Wreck, and Metompkin Islands, VA

This dataset was collected by Curtis Smith during the summer of 2003 as a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) participant. It consists of Global Positioning System (GPS) lines collected by walking high-tide and vegetation (Hog Island only) lines using a Trimble Geoexplorer XT GPS unit. The resulting data was processed with GPS Pathfinder Office using differential correction. All data are in the UTM (zone 18) and the WGS-84 projection was used throughout. During the repeated surveys of Hog, Curtis was developing methodologies and conventions for surveying sometimes confusing high-tide lines. Each shapefile name contains the island and the date of the survey within 2003 in the form Rmmdd where mm is the month and dd is the day. For example Hog_R0717_05A.shp would be Hog Island, VA on July 17, 2003. The raw GPS position files are also included. These proprietary (.SSF) files require the Trimble Pathfinder Office software to be interpreted. Â Individual shapefiles for each survey day were later (2013) combined into a single shapefile with the island and date identified as attributes. Â

GPS Survey Monuments on the Virginia Coast Reserve 1992-1994

The Virginia Coast Reserve Long-term Ecological Research project, in association with the Virginia Marine Resources Commission, conducted an intensive GPS survey during February 1992. A second GPS survey was conducted in August 1994 to add supplemental GPS monuments. Most monuments consist of stainless steel pipes driven to refusal and topped with a bolt with a point imprinted on it. Others may consist of existing markers or cultural features. Elevations refer to the monument, not the surrounding ground surface. All data were processed by the VCR/LTER. Several caveats must be applied to use of this survey network: 1. These are preliminary results and are subject to change as the network is revised. 2. This network is designed for research purposes only, the data are not suitable for legal uses of survey data. 3. The network includes several US Government benchmarks, but except for the VCR1 monument recently resurveyed and "fixed" by the National Geodetic Survey (see below), the coordinates for those benchmarks have not been adjusted to agree with blue-book values for those benchmarks. 4. Elevations are based on mean sea-level (NAVD88) for a single point (VCR1). No geoid corrections have been applied to any other point. *** Update: MINOR coordinate shifts resulting from NGS adjustment of the VCR1 monument's estimated lat/lon following the NAD83 (Va) HARN adjustment of 2011 have been calculated (0.017 m S, 0.001 m W), but not otherwise applied to the data. A shapefile of the VCR GPS network based on the original coordinates has also been included.

Malthi2015_GPS

<p><br> Malthi provides a nearly unique example of a fully excavated Middle Hellenic (MH) settlement. The excavated remains include a series of houses, storage facilities, entrance ways, and possible public architecture, enclosed by a settlement wall. Malthi is perhaps the first MH site at which a major restructuring of the settlement architecture was observed, as proposed by Valmin. The PIs research focuses on the socio-cultural motivations for the decision to make substantial revisions to the urban layout, as well as impacts on the life of the settlement and the surrounding area. PIs Rebecca Worsham, Prof. Donald Haggis, and Prof. Michael Lindblom collaborated with SPARC researchers to produce an accurate and analysis-ready plan of the exposed standing remains and a digital elevation model (DEM) of the settlement at Malthi, using a combination of scanning and structure from motion techniques.&nbsp;</p> <p>This work was embedded in a larger project, and aimed to reconsider the architecture of the site including prior identifications of room types (by Valmin), and to attempt to identify coherent buildings. This improved survey, mapping and interpretation exercise was intended to support a rethinking about the settlement&rsquo;s organization, and re-organization, as a whole. The production of a local DEM of the site was intended to aid in a consideration of access routes and forms a starting point for establishing the role of Malthi in the larger Soulima Valley network, which may function as a major corridor.</p> <p>This upload contains the GPS data gathered during the Malthi project in 2015.</p>

In-vehicle Sensing Datasets (e.g., GPS, IMU, and OBD data) In Florida

<p>This data collection and distribution is supported by NSF OAC-1948066. These datasets include a total of 497 trajectory datasets over 2404 km. Each dataset includes &nbsp;6DOF IMU data (e.g., triaxial acceleration and gyroscope data), GPS data (e.g., latitude, longitude, altitude, speed over ground, the number of connected satellites, Course Over Ground), and OBD data (e.g., rpm, throttle positions, accelerator positions, RPM, air temperature, etc.). &nbsp;The data collection mechanism adopts the asynchronous sampling technologies that make capturing sensor data independent of the recorded signal. Therefore, datasets collected from each sensor are logged in separate files (e.g., time_obd.jsonl, time_gps.jsonl, time_obd.jsonl). By matching the time when each sensor module initiated to log data, one can aggregate/fuse multi-type in-vehicle sensing data.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

GPS time series of solid Earth deformation for the southern Antarctic Peninsula

<p>This dataset contains vertical GPS time series observed from selected sites in the southern Antarctic Peninsula. The time series were processed using GAMIT-GLOBK software (Herring et al., 2016) in combination with a globally distributed network that includes all available data from the International GNSS Service (IGS), US POLENET-ANET and UKANET networks. The provided archive contains raw and corrected time series for the effect of elastic deformation-induced from the RACMO surface mass balance (SMB) model with a 5.5 km horizontal resolution (van Wessem et al. 2016). This data is used in the manuscript &quot;GPS-observed elastic deformation due to surface mass balance variability in the Southern Antarctic Peninsula&quot; to study how modelled elastic deformation due to SMB variation can explain vertical land motion observed derived from GPS signals.</p>
