Data and code from: A spectral three-dimensional color space model of tree crown health
<p>Protecting the future of forests in the United States and other countries depends in part on our ability to monitor and map forest health conditions in a timely fashion to facilitate management of emerging threats and disturbances over a multitude of spatial scales. Remote sensing data and technologies have contributed to our ability to meet these needs, but existing methods relying on supervised classification are often limited to specific areas by the availability of imagery or training data, as well as model transferability. Scaling up and operationalizing these methods for general broadscale monitoring and mapping may be promoted by using simple models that are easily trained and projected across space and time with widely available imagery. Here, we describe a new model that classifies high resolution (~1 m<sup>2</sup>) 3-band red, green, blue (RGB) imagery from a single point in time into one of four color classes corresponding to tree crown condition or health: green healthy crowns, red damaged or dying crowns, gray damaged or dead crowns, and shadowed crowns where the condition status is unknown. These Tree Crown Health (TCH) models trained on data from the United States (US) Department of Agriculture, National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP), for all 48 States in the contiguous US and spanning years 2012 to 2019, exhibited high measures of model performance and transferability when evaluated using randomly withheld testing data (<em>n</em> = 122 NAIP state x year combinations; median overall accuracy 0.89-0.90; median Kappa 0.85-0.86). We present examples of how TCH models can detect and map individual tree mortality resulting from a variety of nationally significant native and invasive forest insects and diseases in the US. We conclude with discussion of opportunities and challenges for extending and implementing TCH models in support of broadscale monitoring and mapping of forest health.</p>

<p>Spectral ANalog of Dwarfs (SAND) is a new grid of model atmospheres for low-mass stars and brown dwarfs at a variety of chemical compositions, characteristic of various components of the Milky Way, including the galactic halo and globular clusters. SANDee is the first set of models that can reproduce the observed star/brown dwarf transition in globular clusters. SpectralGPT: The first remote sensing foundation model customized for spectral data
<p>SpectralGPT is the first purpose-built foundation model designed explicitly for spectral RS data. It considers unique characteristics of spectral data, i.e., spatial-spectral coupling and spectral sequentiality, in the MAE framework with a simple yet effective 3D GPT network.</p> <p>We will gradually release the trained models (SpectralGPT, SpectralGPT+), the new benchmark dataset (SegMunich) for the downstream task of semantic segmentation, original code, and implementation instructions.</p>
Best-fit Abundances, Observed Spectra and Spectral Models for the New Sample of Ultracool Dwarf Benchmarks with Detailed Chemical Characterization
<p>Dataset associated with Fisher et al. 2024 in RNAAS <a href="https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/2515-5172/ad79f0">[link to publication]</a></p> <p><code>summary.mrt</code> is a table of identifiers, photometry, fundamental stellar parameters and detailed chemical compositions for 13 candidate wide binary systems with FGK Main Sequence primaries (5100 K < Teff < 6300 K) and ultracool dwarf companions (2500 K < Teff < 3100 K). Refer to the file header for detailed description of columns and units.</p> <p><code>stars.zip</code> contains the high-resolution spectra of primaries observed with the Automated Planet Finder (APF, program <code>2021B_A010</code>), as well as the corresponding best-fit spectral models. Each FITS file in the archive represents an individual exposure of the primary. The files are arranged in directories by identifiers of the primaries. The total number of exposures varies from source to source.</p> <p>FITS files are composed of a primary HDU and 6 extensions.</p> <ul> <li>The primary HDU contains the unmodified sky-subtracted spectrum of the object as produced by the APF pipeline and published on <a href="https://jump.caltech.edu/">Jump</a>. The spectrum is stored as a 2D array organized by Echelle orders.</li> <li>The first extension contains the corresponding air wavelengths [in A] transformed to the rest frame of the source.</li> <li>The second extension is the boolean mask of pixels included in model fitting.</li> <li>The third extension is the adopted statistical weights of each pixel, estimated as inverse variances under the assumption of Poisson noise.</li> <li>The fourth extension contains the best-fit synthetic spectrum in CGS units of surface intensity per wavelength in A.</li> <li>The fifth extension is the best-fit spline continuum correction between the model and the data.</li> <li>The final extension contains the adopted FWHM of the line spread function in each pixel, estimated by combining in quadrature a wavelength-dependent component with λ/Δλ=120,000 and a best-fit wavelength independent component (the <code>quickblur</code> parameter of the <a href="https://github.com/Roman-UCSD/chemfit">chemfit</a> package)</li> </ul> <p>This repository is for the research note "New Sample of Ultracool Dwarf Benchmarks with Detailed Chemical Characterization" by Fisher et al. Red line represent the spectral model from sme with the parameters showen in Table 2.In some cases the normalization procedure distorted Hδ region. For these cases, the region was masked out of the model and denoted by a dotted line.</p>
